School lunches is a great inititve NZ schools have, how can you say its a waste of money. Especially if they're helping the community and helping students gain NCEA accreditation for future studies. Not all families are so fortunate to be able to send their children with a full packed lunch so having this is a blessing and a relief for many. There is probably so many things that get over looked and parents are seen to not be looking after their kids. Not all families or cultures have sandwiches as a meal. Their has been times my son wants to take noodles to school but there arnt any facilities for the children to use, same with probably otther kids maybe they want to take their left over dinners from home to have for lunch. If you ever went to a construction site how many of the workers would you see that eat sandwiches?
To put into perspective the school I work at (also South Auckland) has hundreds of spare lunches - teachers take them home, students, we give them to parents to take home - thousands of dollars in food each week - we tell them to send less but they dont listen. My own freezer is packed as is my neighbours and half the street. We give 100 plus to the local churches food drive each week and we still have spare - it's not all what you see on one TV show.
Sounds like an issue of communication, why isn’t Mr Seymour trying to fix that then? He’s just using any excuse to cut programs. It’s like saying this road gets clogged every morning so let’s just close and demolish the road. Also perhaps as the video suggested the issue is that the lunches provided aren’t very good so the students don’t want to eat them. Also also what school you working at then?
It's like Seymour is dictating his idea of what is that he thinks is happening. He's asked the question about its effectiveness but refuses to then validate it before making sweeping decisions, and also taking jobs.Does not listen to people telling him it works. It's going to be a fun society to be living in with the additional suffering he is obviously happy to create. Are we sure he is human or some AI politician optimising for cost. Oh hang on, ait might be more equitable. Sure some kids and families may not need it but what is the cost of administering that? Filimone Vuna You are awesome. David does see less because even though David might think it's a waste of money; when a kid can concentrate because they aren't hungry that kid can actually make a difference in their life and in New Zealand's future. That's so funny about the school (ie not for profit) lunches having so little waste and being eaten, and the for profit contractors having waste because their food is crap. It sounds like this whole free school lunches thing has a for profit contractor issue and not a cost or wast issue to me and David is again seeing less because he's focusing on the for profit contractors that will always fail the students and put profit first. But for the people who think this is a waste of money just remember a hungry kid is angry, upset, pissed off, and out stealing your car. A kid who is fed is at home studying or stealing a car while playing GTA on the computer with their mates. So think of social programs not as hand outs.
