How To Add Borates to your Swimming Pool
This is a video on how to add the proper amount of Sodium Tetraborate and Boric Acid so you can get 50 PPM of Borates in your pool.
Borates will help buffer your pH, Helps prevent Algae BC it is an Algaestat, not an Algaecide. Water feels softer and silkier and the water looks clearer and sparkles. The biggest plus is you will use less Chlorine in your pool. I'm working on a nice intro for my videos.

How do I test borate levels? I can't seem to find a decent test kit. The strip kits on amazon have bad reviews.
Is that muriatic acid he’s putting in?
Yes I'm adding muriatic acid to offset the higher 9 pH of Sodium Tetraborate.
When doing the acid calculation, why do you divide by 1.6? Do you always divide by 1.6?
it's 1.6 of sodium tetraborate per 1 fl oz muriatic acid. But no one uses sodium tetraborate anymore bc you need acid to offset the high pH. We use Boric Acid now bc there is no need for the added acid.
I’m just starting to use borates in my pools, and leisure had 2 bags so I bought them and they are sodium tetra borates. So I was curious the acid amount to use. Do you know where I can pick up boric acid? I appreciate your help.
@@Dishnitup559 try your local pool supplier. if it's big where you live they should have it.
@@Dishnitup559 Local pool supplies like Leslies dont carry it , im assuming its because they wont make much on all the other chemicals they sale if they did carry it. I bought 20 lb Bioguard Optimizer from Amazon for a little under $100.
I bought 20 mule brand at food lion, a 4 lb box was almost $6. Walmart has for a little cheaper. I only have above ground 16'×10' pool so it never takes as much of any chemical that a pool calculator suggests but if for bigger pools and a higher amount need of boric acid that may not be the best way to buy it.
Holy crap! Electrical lines over a pool? Yikes!
I was noticing that too - especially as he was lifting the pole out of the water...
Is that Boroset X you’re using?
It's Three Elephants Boric Acid.
Sorry that is sodium tetraborate I used that at first. I now use Boric Acid bc you don't need to add acid to offset the higher pH.
What brand of borate do you use?
The brand of Sodium Tetraborate I use I get from a friend that only sells it to friends for a good deal. I'll call tomorrow morning and get the brand you should be able to get or just look for Sodium Tetraborate or Boric acid. Your State might be different on brands.
I appreciate it.
The brand is Neo Bor. It's a nation wide brand of Sodium Tetraborate.
Why the blurring?
Someone else did the editing on that video. I have no idea why they did that.
