Corn Snake vs Gopher Snake - Head To Head
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 лют 2019
- Corn snakes (Pantherophis guttatus) are some of the best pet snakes you can possibly get. That said, pine, gopher and bullsnakes (Pituophis spp.) are arguably just as good, and possibly even cooler. So which one is the best pet snakes? Clint puts these two snakes head to head to help you figure out which is the best pet snake for you.

You guys are so RAD!
When i was 5, to the great distress of mother, I picked up a pine snake in my yard while pretending to be Steve Irwin. I’ve been in love ever since.
This just made my day hahahaha. 😂😂😂
Crikey! Take a look at this beauty!
I always liked reptiles. When I was a kid I spent alot of time catching snakes, lizards, frogs and turtles. Theres alot of ignorance surrounding snakes. I was looking at comments about the garter snake. Some people believed they're poisonous. Others killed them. I use to have a gopher snake, 5 feet in length. I think they're so cool. I kept him for awhile then let him go where I found him.
You said we could disagree-I disagree with gopher snakes being more awesome because of how rare they are, because living in CA, I ALWAYS see them on hiking trails and they’re the most common snake in the world to me LOL! 😂 Corn snakes are rare to me, and so beautiful. Both are awesome, of course
@@JeremyRivette He meant that they’re more rare in the hobby.
Over the years I've had gopher snakes simply because they were plentiful and always made great pets. I moved to Southern Utah and fond a half dead baby gopher snake on our doorstep. We raised it and she has turned out to be the best pet snake I've ever owned. She loves to be stroked and makes a good "lap" snake. She'll sit with us when watching TV and will chill for an entire movie. We love her as much as any other pet we've ever had.
I have a Sonoran golpher snake it's around 5' and it completes me
that's so true I have 2 lizards one snake and a dog, the snake is affectionate in its own way and I love them all the same
Oh thank goodness! I read that as half of a dead snake (as in had been cut in half), rather than half-dead (as in not dead). I had a very gory image in my head for a moment there, I'm very glad that's not what you meant and all turned out so well!
*BCI vs BCC- head to head* would be an awesome video
Seconded! I'd like to know more about the differences.
For sure
David Still Boa Constrictor Constrictor and Boa Constrictor Imperator, two commonly kept subspecies of the species boa constrictor.
Waking up to Clint each weekend is always a highlight.
Absolutely. Favorite part of my weekend morning.
Yeah
Wait WHAT!?!
I always recommend corn snakes to people, especially if they've never had snakes before. They're easy, they're good eaters, they're super available and affordable, have an interesting and wide variety of morphs, and they have cute faces.
I think corn snakes look far more boopable. which would win an awesomeness category. Maybe that should be a subheading of awesomeness?
You shouldn't boop either of them. They hate being booped. It hurts their snoots.
I personally never booped. It's good to know that that it hurts them so i will now never boop. but i think if it becomes almost irresistible to want to boop due to cuteness it should be factored in to awesomeness. @@ClintsReptiles
also thanks for telling me so i don't end up a booper
#savethesnoots
@@ClintsReptiles maybe most likely to hit the top of r/sneks? Typically the cutest ones make it, but some really badass ones do, too.
Growing up I had a gopher snake. I had it since it was a hatchings for the most part. It honestly was a really chill snake. Always eat it’s food and was super easy to take care of. I was always intimidated picking it up but I honestly think that was due to the look of it. All in all I’d highly recommend them as pets or a first time snake.
I just got myself a new amelinistic corn snake and he's stinking awesome
You made me so interested in corn snakes and reptiles in general when I first discovered your videos a week ago and I've been binge-watching your videos and other reptile UA-camrs' since.
I really want to have a corn snake now and never clicked on a video that fast. o.o
I'm glad we could help steer you in the right direction. Incredible pets for a prepared keeper :)
Make sure you check out snake discovery too!! One of my favorite overall channels on youtube! So good!
Corn snake can poop in you hand.My corn has done it three times
@@tharlinshwe3403 You can usually tell when they need to though. At least with mine you can
Pippetandpossum how plz tell I am sick of snake poop
Love the head to heads! I'd like to see a blood vs ball python head to head!
That would be a good one.
My first snake was Flicker, a Great Basin gopher snake my dad collected almost 40 years ago. My current is Ember, a classic color corn snake I’ve had for over 12 years. Both are awesome snakes. Have you seen the size of the bull snakes at Snake Discovery? They are enormous! Great video as always, thanks.
Could you do a video about African house snakes as well? They shimmer like Rainbow Boas, but come in a much more handy package!
I just got a Sonoran Gopher Snake! Thanks, Clint
I swear you are the Bob Ross of reptiles. I am just waiting for you to whisper “we are just going to put him on this happy little log”
Gotta love me a gopher snake!! I'm so glad to see somebody give these guys the attention they deserve! If you look at my thumbnail pic, that's actually me holding a juvenile Pacific gopher that my son caught and brought home. Straight out of the wild, and she just chilled on my belly, wrapped around my hand!
2 years later and still have the described profile pic. Respect. I love my gopher snake as well. 🐍❤️
If you don’t mind me asking how did you go about taming her my father just recently caught me a baby gopher snake and for the most part she’s pretty chill but hides alot
My first snake was a bull snake. He is the most active, friendly, curious snake I have ever met. He never behaves aggressively, but rattles his tail while he eats! Even my 2-year-old nephew can pet (not hold!) him, and my previously snake-hating relatives are quite fond of him now. He's such a character, I'm glad I picked a bull snake.
I got to know a wild Bull Snake in AZ that was HUGE! I called her Boss Hog, and she lived in a rock support structure on this weird bridge on a dirt road in the desert. SHe was (is, I hope...) approx 8 feet long, and as thick or thicker than a carpet python. The first few times we met he was extremely defensive and so large I thought, I probably cannot wrangle you without someone getting hurt, so I would just sit down nearby and let her do her thing; she'd watch me for a while and then disappear. The 3rd or 4th time I went out there, I brought her a rat my ball python refused, and she took it, and we began being friends. This was the beginning of the end for my keeping captive snakes - I realized I could be friends with wild snakes and that's a lot better, I mean, if you love snakes and give a crap about their experience of being, that is.
@chonqmonk I certainly do give a crap about their experience of being, however we unfortunately do not have wild snakes where I live (Northern UK). I could certainly see myself going out to look for them if we did
@@evinalesca7830 I understand. The ball python I mentioned hated his life, and I had to rethink my relationship to captive wild animals because of him ....I now live in Northern Wisconsin and we have loads of different wild snakes from the West Coast ones I used to know. Wild Eastern Hognoses come in 3 incredible color morphs around here, and they are amazing snakes! They act like cobras, then play dead, then they chillax. We've also got these little tiny red-belly snakes that often like human body warmth so much they try to stay on you when you're putting them back on the ground.
I have two corns and a bull. Corns are so docile, but my bull may be my favorite. I love my Blacktail Cribo also. Oh and my California King is Amazing, love her!
I own a gopher snake , it's so easy to handle , super chill I love it .
Mine is the mellowist snake in the history of snakes.
i love how gophers look like they have 'evil' eyebrows but STILL are such cute little nope ropes
Pituophis snakes also have a reputation for fighting off raccoons and dogs. That's pretty awesome.
I have a pacific and a sonorna gopher snake there awesome!!!
Seriously, though: can ANY snake beat the corn snake? It’s super ubiquitous at this point, but it got that way for a reason. Relatively low humidity requirements, great appetite, beautiful morphs, and a usually cool personality all make it great for beginners. Honestly, I don’t think even ball pythons have quite reached that level (at least in terms of easiness. In terms of availability they’ve probably gone above corns at this point).
It would be an extremely difficult snake to beat. Leopard geckos might give them a run for their money.
If ball pythons stop being picky they might get a chance
that pretty much describes all north american colubrids and boids lol
Elaphe dione might catch up because they are beautiful as well and are diurnal snakes. But I don't know if they are easy to get in the US.
I have a corn snake because of Clint (and Brittany she is nice (
I own a PINE X CORN hybrid so best of both worlds!!
Corn snakes are my favorite! I’ve never owned a bull snake, but they seem just as fun to have in your collection.
You, Clint, are stinkin’ rad! Love your videos and thanks for introducing me to snake discovery!
Another gem in the vault! Thanks Clint and crew!
Also that is a gorgeous gopher! I love the yellow!
Thank you!
Great video as always, Clint! Two beautiful species that are hard to beat!
They are both so great!
Just started watching your channel and I absolutely love it!
Clint you are a great teacher and educator. I really want a a gopher snake now thanks to your videos
I'm so excited about this one!!! I've liked and I haven't even watched it. This is a perfect way to cheer my sick self up on this snowy day.
That corn snake’s face is heart melting 😍
Aren't they adorable?
I talked about my corn snake on another video but forgot to mention that they are escape artists. You should get a lock if you have sliding glass. I had custom glass cut for my custom tank I built. The glass panels were around 1kg -2kg each as each was about 40” wide. My big old corn was so smart he would watch how I opened the glass and would try to do the same by pressing against it and sliding to the right of left. Once I forgot to lock it and he managed to slide the glass... found him hiding above my shower an hour later... gave him a quick bath as he clearly wanted it ;D and put him back in. You should 100% get a corn if you or your kids are interested in starting to keep snakes or reptiles. Super easy to take care of and most love to be handled.
I have the privilege of seeing the occasional Gopher Snake where I live. It's so cool spotting them warming themselves around house foundations and such. They're also great at keeping the rodent population in check. I honestly don't know whether the Kings or the Gophers around here are the bigger bottomless pits but I'm glad to see them both.
Thanks for all your videos.
Excellent video
2:05 Peanut from Snake Discovery would have to disagree 😂 I'm suprised you guys didn't collab with this video Emily is a bullsnake queen
Peanut is ginormous! I’ve never seen such a huge bull snake!
Well...They live like 1500 miles apart and different sides of the country. But otherwise they probably would have.
I found Clint on her channel
I'd love to have snakes, but my family is scared shitless to anything that has more or less than 2 pairs of limbs
Same, I’ve been interested in snakes for a while now and my parents think I’m crazy lol
When it went down the cable opening at the end I laughed so hard!
Just got a wild baby gopher snake and im so excited to take care of it!
Is there a big difference between GOPHERS and BULL snakes. From what I understand Bull snakes are a type of Gopher. Could you break down the differences of those snakes
There are many species in the genus Pituophis.
I love their eyes, so big and round!
Awesome head to head!
And looking forward to the pituophis vid. ^_^
Glad to see you are doing something you love instead of working at Sabre.
Stinking rad head to head guys! Loved it.
I've got one of Ed and Emily's bull snakes, and it is awesome!
Man I love corn snakes. Orange is one of my favorite colors and their patterns are so cool.
I have a 5' Sonoran gopher snake, wild caught, never hissed or put on a show, eats well, I'm in love
I have never owned these species but for me personally I would like something a bit different like the gopher snake. But I would have to say western hognoses and garter snakes are my favourites 💕. Thanks for another amazing video Clint!
Do you know why Western Hoggies seem to be preferred over their Eastern relatives?
Clint, I would love to know what your favorite corn morph is!
I used to work at a reptile rescue centre and we had a huuuuuge gopher snake. Used to puff up and hiss a lot but was awesome to handle. Will definately look into getting one in the future 😃
Grumpy little goofballs.
In southern california, people collected gopher snakes that have good dispositions. They throw back the ones who were grumpy, so what we have in the wild will try to bite you, or strike at your face. Corn snakes captive bred are mostly good-natured, but once in a while, you'll get one that's grumpy, but they bite and let go in a flash. It doesn't really hurt.
I have both. My baby bull snake is quite a character. Both are great pets!
It's hard to choose
i just found one in my sisters garage and i love it . and took frozen for sure
I went ti my first reptile expo a few weeks ago. There was this feisty gopher snake. He was so active and his scales were so cool.
He ended up cutting me slightly with his scales and I thought it was amazing. The power in the body to make those cut.
He was also very smart looking. Looked like he was a problem solver (read: escape aritst).
I love your videos so much! Im partial to corn snakes because i own one and he has never ever bitten me even when i first met him. His name is Sylvester 😊😊
I found a mountain king snake once in the Santa Clarita area by LA. It was in the desert under a board against the line of fences that ended the desert. I was like maybe 8 or 9 yrs old. He was the most beautiful snake colored snake that I have ever seen in real life. I'm not 53 years old and have had everything from king to water to gopher to rattle to boa and a 9ft Burmese python, and that still holds true today. I get upset when I think about making the mistake to show my father, whom I did not know had a death fear of snakes. He wouldn't let me touch it. I should never have asked him to come look. Lol but I wouldn't have been able to keep it anyway. He was the only one I've ever seen in real life. Why he was there is still odd to me. But he was and it was something I'll remember even after I forget my kids names lol
I love ur channel!!!
I always recommend corns as a starter snake. BUT, the awesomeness of bull snakes can't be overstated. They're far and away the most underrated snake in the hobby. So much personality. I just wish they were easier to find for sale.
Always love to learn something new on your channel. Have you ever considered maybe making a video on rat snakes??
Hey, you should make a video on abronia gramineas! Nice video!
I look forward to the Bull, Gopher and Pine snake discussion as I always thought they were all the same species, just different geographical names like cougar and puma.
Hi Clint, love your videos and am looking forward to each new one, especially those featuring the famous five categories (what are they again? ;-)). My favourite reptiles are turtles, so am hoping you'll cover more of them in the future, the "easier" ones like the Greeks, spur-thighed and marginated as well as the more expert-level species like leopards and Indian stars, also comparisons between the many aquatic species that are available.
We will. We even have a video on spur-thighs already.
Great video Clint!! Loved the information!!! Keep up the great work Clint!!
YOUR #1 FAN ~ Amanda Mandigo
Thank you so much, Amanda. My mom took the news that she is no longer my #1 fan pretty well :)
@@ClintsReptiles well that's great too know...LOL. N your very welcome Clint!! I'm sure your mom is a amazing woman. Thank you for teaching me so much. N keep up the amazing work.
I purchased a pine snake thinking it was a corn snake, I don't regret it
Love your videos! Any chance you have a head to head in the works between a Ball Python and a Corn Snake, if you haven't already?
I have four corn snakes. I was going to get a bull snake (they're my favorite snakes and I work with them all the time at my job!), but my first corn snake practically fell into my lap about a week before I was going to adopt a bull snake. My second and third also practically fell into my lap about a month later. My fourth corn snake I got about five months later when I fell in love with him at a pet shop. My corn snakes are a wild morph, a bloodred morph, a ghost stripe morph, and an extreme reverse Okeetee. I still going to get a bull snake sooner or later!
Hey I use reptiles a lot for education at a summer camp, and I was wondering if you've ever considered making a video on the best reptiles to own that are native to America, a lot of these are also duper overlooked but amazing pets! Garter snakes, brown snakes, stinkpot turtles, hognose snakes, American toads, etc
Can you do a review on rosy boa?
You guys should cover the Sail Dragon Lizard! I saw one at my local reptile store and all I was just doing was reading about him, but I guess I looked funny, and he jumped at me and hit the glass. He was a wild little guy, but he was really fascinating to learn about.
I had a Gopher Snake a while back. Mine was very cool and tame.
Would love to see a video on the Florida Kingsnake.
Can you review the Sulawesi water skinks next? They look awesome!
I love when he said heck this category is called awesomeness it's not exactly science
I have a ghost corn Boi :D his coloring in his head is really pretty light orange/peach color and literally anyone who doesn't like snakes or is worried about snakes, when they see and handle him they always leave having a much better veiw on snakes :> He's a very very cute snake and so calm
I am going to be getting a black corn snake soon assnd I can't wait
Hello Clint I was wondering what is the best cleaning methods for cleaning out a terrarium?
So what floor space would you recommend for adult Corn snakes and other similarly sized colubrids? Would a 36x18 inch floorspace be sufficient? More, less, what would be the starting point in your opinion? I have seen as small as 30x12 inches to as large as 48x24 inches. Obviously more is better, but as a baseline, how much space do you think they need?
As corns have a orange/red coloring, which is attractive. Bulls will have a great yellow coloration which are just as eye catching. Also if you are like I am and perfect the darker/more natural colors, there both just stunning! In the late 70’s I caught & released a bull snake that I called a white sands bull. (On the Texas New Mexico border) this snake was a white snake with speckles. I have only seen two like this, the one I caught and one from Indiana, I was told. Most should know bulls are much more vocal, they sometimes hiss just because.
Could you do a video on Arid Skinks or red sided skinks please.
Clint, could you do a video on the Fiji Iguana. I just found out about them, they cool as ice mate. Quite a novel little dino.
can you do a video on green anoles
Will you make video obout emerald tree monitor?

Could you do a "rating" (as in the stars) video on false water cobras and burmese pythons please
For sure!
Can you please do an episode of Best pet lizard about Rhino Iguanas?
How big do these get and what size enclosures would they need?
Could you do a ackie monitor vs blue-tounged skink video? Ive been seriously considering both and i would like to hear you opinion
You should do a video on Tokayo Geekos
I don't know if you still read these, but have you ever considered getting and doing a video on a Armadillo Girdled lizard? They are so cool! Love your videos BTW!
They cost over $1,000 and are very difficult to find. I will cover them if I ever get the chance.
Hey Clint can you do a video about the Nile Monitor Lizard to see is it a good pet or not ??
What do you think about viper boas?
This is unrelated but I figured it’s the best way to get a response my friend is trying to breed her bearded dragon but they keep laying the eggs at like 3 a.m and they eat them before she can get the eggs out so what should she do to get the eggs or what time should she breed them
Corn Snakes and Gopher Snakes are equally awesome in my personal opinion
Those snakes seem to get along fine with one another....
Can you please do a video on the false chameleon and the veiled chameleon please
Ive got a soft spot for pinstripes and okette corns
We've got a beautiful full grown red pinstripe at work and i love him so much
Can you do a video on carpet pythons please!
