    I have the GEEKOM IT12 with an i9 (12900H)/32 GB and 2 TB and I am happy with it.
    Runs fairly quiet for the power on offer. Runs well.
    I use it for web browsing, UA-cam watching, Plex viewing, and some low-end Steam gaming.
    Does old DOS gaming via GoG extremely well, along with older system emulation as Phil states.
    Everything Phil said is spot on though. Performance from an i9 for some tasks could be better but it cleared up a huge space on my desk and I was able to move my high end gaming PC to the basement. Save on electricity costs, noise, and heat in my home office. Win win :D

    The reason for performance below specifications is likely due to limited TDP and throttling due to lack of heat dissipation. The i9 13900H motherboard product modified for desktop use shows quite high performance.

    7:11 this is a shame really. This thing throttles with its cooling so i think going i7 with DDR5 makes sense. Save on the CPU get faster ram

    Never understood the purpose of such mini PCs. If you need something small, get a laptop. If you need power, get a desktop PC. Minis combine the worst of both words. They are not portable, not upgradeable, and underpowered. But they overheat and make noise.

    I like mini/SFF PCs but these do not make sense if you have to pay for them. Don’t get me wrong, I ”want ”several of them, but have no real need for something smaller then M-ITX or a laptop, without a dedicated GPU.

    I think that version with i7 has better performance per dollar ratio, because i7-13700H has almost identical performance to i9-13900H, but is 100$ cheaper

    Got to be honest Im not really keen on where pcs are going which is interesting because I can see some advantages in some circumstances but I wouldn't want these to be the goto. I like towers, i like customising them and having the options. With these its more restrictive and while a lot smaller i think it sacrifices usability but i stress i could be wrong and would value feedback

    Seems like a Mixed bag for me, great for Video Editing, Emulation like PCem and 86Box, and Other Single-Threaded tasks, but MEH with gaming... (Especially old games...) And some potential performance hits thanks to DDR4.
    Seems like a fine machine, but some flaws of it are killing it for me.
    Seems like the AMD Versions are just better overrall.

    • @philscomputerlab
      @philscomputerlab  8 місяців тому

      With games it's really the Intel drivers that are a let-down. Not just performance but compatibility. A lot of games just don't work well. Even an entry level AMD APU will do better because, well it just works.

    • @Super123456789Kuba
      @Super123456789Kuba 8 місяців тому

      @@philscomputerlab Well, with performance I thought more about DDR4 limiting that CPU with what It could do, but true, Intel Drivers are a let-down with old DX9.0 and DX10 games, probably running something as old as Call of Duty United Offensive from 2004 would be a issue.

    I have a little celeron version of one of these, does the job for a PC to travel with, can even run some older games like the Mass Effect trilogy. It only cost £99 IIRC

    One big issue with all these miniPCs that they are insanely overpriced, you get as good as these are in form of second hand laptops for half of the price. I would not consider any of these for retro purposes anyway.

    Mini Pcs have a potential to replace many laptops that serve as home machines and never actually leave the house. Everybody already has some sort of big display, just add keyboard and a mouse and you can have a home system that is much smaller than a laptop.

  • @manaphylv100
    @manaphylv100 8 місяців тому

    The issue with most of these mini PCs is that they are too overpriced. They are just laptops without anything that makes a laptop portable, yet they come with all the problems of a laptop, like throttling due to limited power and cooling.
    Unless you absolutely cannot fit a Micro-ATX or even a VESA-mounted Mini-ITX system in your room (which is highly unlikely, considering you still need external monitor and input devices), you are always better off going with a socketed system.

    • @philscomputerlab
      @philscomputerlab  8 місяців тому

      For me they work as I recently travelled with Mini PC in backpack and USB capture card. I don't like laptops, too small, so I use a large screen at destination and so this worked well for me but yes many would prefer a laptop.
