UEL headers just sound waaaay better than efficient EL headers. This is a fact. It doesn’t matter how many people try to deny this. I know every single thing in life is subjective. But this in my wholehearted honest opinion isn’t.
@@daniel27560 a shitty one like this (no shade to the fab man just no math done) might remove some power, like 2.3 horses. but a UEl header would add power from stock, it would not add as much power as an equal length, but it would add power in more usable positions. the powerband of equal length headers only hits at redline (or wherever they were designed to have peak power) but a UEL has less overall power, but across the entire powerband
I can't believe with how popular those D and B series UEL headers are that someone would make them for K series. I want to RWD motor swap a lightweight 4 cyl to sound like this, and the D and B are reverse rotation. But the K would work nicely. A real boxer would never fit in a million years lol.

Jonathan Baca I got the car for half the price of buying a proper UEL header. This was pretty much free and the car will be scrap soon with the way it’s rotting lol.
@@jonamond that's awsome! and yeah I put the comment out just incase theres someone that want uel headers for that civic, cause I have a civic like that and aftermarket parts are limited.
Hi mate, greets from the UK. Wanted to do this to mine, just 1 question. How long did the car live afterwards as I keep seeing mixed opinions about it damaging the engine and don't want to wreck mine having just spent a lot on new cambelt/waterpump/thermostat/sensors etc etc and it's only on 103k miles. so want it to last.
If done properly and not hacked like mine 😂, it won’t give you any issues. The car still runs but it’s no longer road worthy due to the body and chopping the roof off of it. I got probably 5000-10000kms on it with the header.
It probably won't do anything, sure it's not ideal for efficiency but a stock engine shouldn't have a problem with it, i would say maybe be careful to not have the pipe for the longer 2 runners too thin
First, I know that an UEL header generally makes the engine work worse perfomance- and reliability-wise compared to the same engine with an EL header with the same design and build quality, because of the non-equal pressures of the exhaust system - 2 cylinders with the shorter runners have bigger backpressure like the other 2 with the longer runners - bigger length difference = worse performance and reliability, but different sound. So, this is the reason why will be my questions related to just only for the sounds what can make an UEL headers installed on regular inline 4 cylinder engines. Now, I just notice that actually for this engine's header is true, that if we make 33 percent longer runners for cylinder nr. 3 and 4 (or for cylinder nr. 1 and 2) like the original, it will make the subaru rumble sound: from 4:26 - 33 percent more length is 12 inch, because the original length is 9 inch. So, further, if we make an 50 percent more length (13.5 inch), probably it will sound like a crossplane inline 4 (1 cylinder bank of a regular american V8), double length (18 inch) - sound like an inline 2, between 50 percent length and double length - several types of V4 engines, or double V-twins, or even less than 33 percent length, for example 10 or 20 or 25 percent (9.9 or 10.8 or 11.25 inch) - like a rear engined old Skoda (no other car sounds like this), or for example an old Volvo VR4 engine - not equally long exhaust gaps inside the cylindehead, etc... Question nr. 1: These length differences what I wrote down above can reproduce the sounds of those engines what I given as an example for the lengths? Question nr. 2: The percentage-like differences can be applied to reproduce the subaru or the other sounds just only for 9 inches, or it is usable for any length? For example: original runners = 6 inch long for each cylinder, we make 33 percent longer = 8 inch long runners for cylinder nr. 3 and 4 - it will reproduce the subaru sound like the 9 +12 inch runners, or the subaru sound causes the 3 inch length difference (make 9 inch long runners for 6 inch short ones)?
is there any proof it's dangerous though. as many companies like 1320 who make these manifolds sell them to loads of people no hassle and dyno them, they admit it's obviously not for performance gains but there is never a loss, some civic engines have infact gained some power here and there. I just want it for the sound but worry it will damage my engine, I can't seem to find a legit answer as some say it will some say it wont...
@@otacon4065 , thanks for your answer, I researched things on this...yes, the 1320 header for Civics actually gains the performance, and engine lifetime / realibility stayes at least the same + never worse, but it is actually a properly designed header...only problem with these things with this header can be true if someone make it himself in a very amateur way for example at home using very basic parts / materials / tools, etc...
I would think that scaling the offset would give a similar sound not exactly the same, if both are shorter then the sound could be different with higher rpm since the interval between pulses would become shorter so my theory would be that at low rpm you would get the same sound or almost the same but the higher the rpm the bigger the difference in sound there would be. I have no idea if it is really like that because i don't know if the sound pulse speed changes with exhaust gas speed, if it did then length wouldn't matter much, only the offset
hey man, how are you doing? can you help me with something? i dont get the "33% length difference". From every image i see online, it seems that the tube that loops is more than double the length compared to the other one. am i measuring it wrong? where's the 33% needs to be? thanks)
Basically just look at typical Uel headers on a Subaru. 4 cyl engine divided in two with one half of the header 33% longer than the other half. The 33% can added anywhere as long it is before the collector of where all 4 cylinders meet. It’s basically just offsetting the exhaust pulses so they are lagged behind. My header isnt really near the 33% but it somewhat worked, I’m sure it would be better if it was bang on but oh well....
@@ChargedTTq i did 1-3 2-4 because of original design, 66% more lenght (33%+ for each) the sound resembles a subaru in low rpms but rather unique sound in higher rpms. Did it on a mitsubishi

I love how people insist it makes a car slower.
As if it's by some huge margin.
I'll gladly give up 5% power to make a 4 cyl not sound like ass.

Ugh that needs a muffler of some kind to stop the RR “rice rasp”
Resonator
I like that abbreviation. A lot 😂
A muffler would cancel the sound too much, would need a resonator
I was pondering this and sure enough it’s already on UA-cam I knew it would work lol

Interesting vid. May have to do a similar setup since 1320 doesn't UEL headers in general anymore.
Effective scavenging is more important than vanity.
Now that I see just how easy it is to make a UEL it's time to throw one on my Camry after chopping up my old 4-1
do you need special piping for headers, or can you just use regular SS exhaust piping? i might do this to my accord(k24a4) in the future.

Put as long a glasspack as you can fit under there as close as you can to the cat and put a short muffler at the end. Itll sound 100 percent better.
