Been using an older pirated version of FL studio since I was just a highschooler learning music production. Now that I'm a working adult, I bought the producer edition just recently and it's a massive quality of life update. Side note, sure FL Studio is great for hiphop, but it's just as great for rock and pop. As someone who knows how to play guitar and bass but not drums, it's a good DAW.
Absolutely! You can do it all with FL Studio! I'm glad to hear it's working well for you!
Probably shouldn't admit that on here.
@@johnsuggs7828 lol, what's past is past
Yo how did you pirate it ? I can’t find how on UA-cam
Omg FL was my first one too....pirated and in high school maybe early 2000s haha
I had no idea what the heck I was doing though haha
I tried FL Studios, didn't understand anything.
Did u try any other daw
What didn't you understand? The english orrrrr
I think FL Studio is for Pros. Tried everything and Studio one is the best for beginners. Easy handling and u can understand everything quick and easy. Sorry fpr my bad english I'm from Germany.
From a guitar/keyboard/DAW user; learn to see it like any other instrument and it will make more sense. You wouldn't be able to just pick up a guitar and start playing songs, you have to learn how to play the guitar. DAW is by far the easiest and honestly most useful of any instrument I've learned, you just have to be willing to learn it ...
@@paintv5670 your English is basically perfect. Or no worse than the average native speaker.
This was a really helpful video. As someone who used to make music, but haven't in the last 15 years or so, I really have no idea what kind of DAWs are out there now. I was using Reason 3.0 back in the day! lol Being a mac user, Logic seems interesting, but some of your other recommendations have peaked my interest. Like Reaper, and FL studios. Thanks for the great video.
Oh, and from another smaller, growing youtuber, really great work with the video. Very well put together.
Thanks for the kind words! Best of luck on your music making journey!
Thank you ...i been debating to myself on which DAW to get ...i have the mpc one plus and i couldn't make up my mind which Daw to purchase im gonna follow my first mind FL Studio....Thank you
And Matt, it's possible to use MacPrograms on Windows as Emulation... not so good for Live Recording, but for a normal production with tracks editing.
Working on a home studio thing and was curious about which one is THE best. I’m
Between Logic and Reaper. I use GarageBand but lately I’ve been paying others to make beats. Now with home studio I’m stuck between those two choices. Hmmm
If you're using GarageBand, then it makes better sense from a workflow standpoint to move to Logic. It's an industry standard in terms of many pros use it. Reaper will get you more about the same thing for less, but it doesn't have the same historical pedigree as Logic.
Logic pro sounds good, but I just can't with Macs... Wish they had a windows version
hey i have a question, which DAW has a better drum kit? fl studio or reaper. i don’t know how to play drums nor do i own one, was jus wondering which would be a better option. it’s for making alternative rock/ shoegaze. please help me thank you
fl buddy
I have Cakewalk. I also have Protools free and Reason. I'm just starting to learn Cakewalk and the others I'm not that familiar with. Of those, what's recd for electronic music, but also vocal recording?
Any of those will work for you to learn! I'd say just hop in and start cooking up some music! My personal favorite for electronic is Ableton, but it's less about the DAW and more about getting started!
When you said logic and the other daws have a high learning curve to become a master, do you mean they are all difficult and take a lot of time to learn?
If so, is there one amongst them which is the easiest and the best to record vocals with?
Imo, the easiest and most user friendly to use if you’re recording vocals would be Logic!
And yeah, when I say they all have a high learning curve to master, I mean they all take a while to learn, especially all of their intricacies. If you already know the concepts of music production, that can make things easier, but there are a lot of moving parts to learn and understand and ultimately master when it comes to these programs!
ur really underated
Thanks man!
I'm zero experience and all I need is turn on, record, and master... what would you recommend for me plz... I'm with M2 pro
audacity can do that for free without much know-how required
Well done. Nothing more needs to be said.
Perfect video for me thx u
Glad it helped! What DAW made the most sense for you?
@@Music-By-Mattie was logic till I lost my laptop in a luggage coming back to Philly 🥲
@@neotv4K oh dang! I'm sorry to hear that! I hope you can get back to making music again soon!
@@Music-By-Mattie this weekend getting a new laptop so… hopefully fingers crossed lol get back into cooking things up yea so … but thx u boss
what is a daw??? and I just want a fun software to make a bit of music like a beat pad...
My daughter is a hip hop artist and shes looking for the best Daw to use to make and record her music. Can anyone give me some advice as to which program I should get. Is Studio One 6 artist a good alternative or should I just get FL studio producer edition
Cakewalk.
Or any of the free ones.
Ableton Live Lite comes with a lot of gear she'll probably need to buy. So she'll get it that way.
Both are very capable systems. Both free.
Cakewalk may not be available for upgrades on their free version but it's very good. used it for years
Fl gets life time free updates
I am a begginer and I do not even know to play an instrument let alone midi. But have bought nektar impact lx 61+. But am unable to get my device in ableton. COPuld you please suggest a free and good daw for a begginer like me please
Garageband. But it’s really limited if you couldn’t play an instrument and want to produce a complete track in the daw.
To be honest, the only good way is to try the free versions to test it out and then buy it! If you really want to get into producing music that doesn’t sound like absolute trash, then you Simply have to put a few hundred dollars into a good DAW! There are no really good Free DAW‘s. They don’t have a lot of sounds and the sounds, plugins, instruments etc. that they have are garbage. And because you‘re a beginner without knowledge, it’s even worse because they don’t have good user interfaces and are complicated to begin with plus there aren’t a lot of tutorials and overall helpings out there…
To really start with music production is expensive at first. You need at least a good DAW and a midi keyboard which will cost you a few hundred bucks.
If you want to record your voice or use instruments, you have to also buy a good microphone and you have to buy a audio interface which is expensive too.
And that’s really only to begin with.
What makes you to produce good songs besides experience is that you have good plugins, good software/hardware instruments and good sounds! And for everything of that you have to pay again! That will cost you really fast another hundreds or thousands of dollars.
I produce with logic pro and like he said in this video, logic has the most good sounds and instruments out of the box and even then i needed to buy lots of plugins and sounds after a few months.
But to begin with, simply buy a midi keyboard and the DAW that you like. As a beginner i would highly recommend you to buy logic pro if you have an mac because the interface and DAW overall is the most beginner friendly in my opinion.
The problem is, if you learn a specific free DAW and then want to switch to a good DAW, you have to learn how to use the program again. I would recommend you to test the DAW’s out or watch a lot of videos and then buy one and stick with it! If you learned how to produce music and it sounds like trash, then it’s not the fault of the DAW. You could produce Banger with every good DAW.
Music production is a really really Expensive hobby which needs lots of effort to learn the DAW as well as music theory and at least learn a little bit how to play Keyboard.
If you don’t want to spend money in producing music, you don’t even have to start with it because you simply will not getting good songs out of it!
Simply forget free DAW‘s, spent a few hundred bucks or you wouldn’t get happy…
That’s not meant to be mean, it’s simply the hard reality… 😐
Don’t listen to the first commenter, just listen to a lot of music, don’t think about how many knobs there are, pick one (I choose fl studio) stick with it, if the music sounds good to you then release it, I naturally just played around with it over the years and i naturally learned more and more of the nitty gritty so much so that it’s like drawing a picture for me, you need imagination tho…and to be very flexible with everything…either that or it just came naturally to me
@@NarutoSagepithank you for motivating and your sound advice 🙏🏼
where is cubase
Great video. Can anyone recommend a DAW for windows doing church live stream? Beginner friendly.
Depends on what you plan on doing! My favorite DAW for live performance is Ableton
Thanks I'm just looking to get a great streaming sound that helps our congregation feel like they are at church
Perfect! I think Ableton would work well! Logic might also work! And it's a bit more user friendly! But for live stuff, Ableton is my go to!@@drej14
Thanks how would you compare Ableton to StudioOne for my needs?
Mixcraft 👍
Im thinking of getting FL Studio but i am a bit hesitant bc of the £164.66 price tag
It can be a hefty investment for sure! Don't stray away from those free trials though! Ableton has a great one that lasts 90 days! (The last time I checked!) FL Studio's is a bit limited, but at least you'd start to get familiar with the work flow!
@@Music-By-Mattie it’s Cus I’m also saving for the quest 3
Funny that no one reviewer mentions Presonus as a DAW. Why is that. I know I'm moving away from it because of the cost: $180 yearly subscription. Any thoughts?
Studio One is okay, but a yearly subscription makes it tough to root for! There are a lot more powerful and more used DAW's out there that will cost you less in the long term! I think as long you're not completely familiar with a Studio One workflow, then switching might be a good call!
subscriptions are ALWAYS bad
I'd love to start with Logic Pro but I ain't buying a whole PC only to use a program 😂😂😂
Studio One?
Hi, which midi keyboard is te most adapted to Logic Pro X?
nektar midis
Any thoughts about audacity?
Thank you Mattie for the good understandable introduction into Daws. But 3 things would be nice to change/add:
you speak too fast, so I changed the tempo of your video to 0.75 (not everyone here is an Anglo, you know?), and you didn't explained how YOU began? What was your first low Cost steps?
Last but not least you didn't analyze DAW Android Apps, Cakewalk, BespokeSynth, Ardour and Cardinal. A tabloid with all important points compared would be nice as pdf download.
"FL Studio is perfect for beginning musicians", "it has got a really good GUI", "it is intuitive for beginners", "FL Studio has a steep learning curve" ! Aren't the first three comments contradictory to the last one ?!
All DAW's have a steep learning curve. Music production has a lot of moving parts and a lot to learn! Even though the first three are true, that doesn't mean it won't take a lot of time to get comfortable producing music!
@@Music-By-Mattie Ok! Thanks!
Where is Cubase?
Cubase didn't make the top five for me! 🤷♂️ It's still a great DAW!
Read the title of Matts Video - it's not for Beginners ;)...
10:22 ... who the fck is abelton? :D
Lol my bad!
I have a Mac but I can't stand GarageBand, it's not actually that intuitive. My kid likes it but I'd give it a 4
I mean it is free!
I'll take Mixcraft over them all
FL Studio is useless when free. You can't do shit in it
It's try before you buy, on purpose
That’s not true at all, I released so many tracks for years before I even learned about the 7 day free trial
Dude hates Studio one cuz its the easiest DAW to learn for beginners.
Thumbs down. He should have said that this was Apple bullshit in the beginning.
Yeah, sure, FL Studio, Ableton and Reaper are definitely Apple products 👍
Haha this ⬆️
u obviously didnt watch the video when he said most of these were also for windows lmao
And why is Apple shit?! I learned computers intuitive with no teacher in the 90s with Macs and it was a fantastic easy entry into it. Then I changed later to PCs, and this was first a downfall ;)
My brother is musician and producer and he swears, Apple is much more stable and faster in all than Windows. Never problems with drivers or incompatibilities.
No Reason 12?
