I grew up not far from there and my friends and I used to explore that area back in the 80s. One time we walked the tracks from the park all the way to Six Flags out in Eureka. That area around the trail used to be a kind of resort area in the 30s and 40s and people from the city would unwind by the river in the summer. There used to be a pool somewhere but I could never determine where. There are a few remaining clues to it's past like the stairs by the tracks which led away from a long gone train station. Great video. It really brought back memories.
Whoa!! Walking from Castlewood to Eureka is a trek. Must have been cool. And yes, you can totally see remnants from what must have been a resort area! The left over foundations are pretty cool to climb on
Just recently got back into doing some hiking myself (my hound loves it even more than me!). Ballwin is a great central spot for the St. Louis hiking scene. In addition to the great trails at Castlewood, you're a short drive from Rockwood Reservation (Lime Kiln Loop is another scenic trail with elevation changes), Babler Park, Greensfelder Park, Creve Coeur Park (which connects to the Katy Trail) and quite a few others. If you really like the up-and-downs, a hidden gem I recently stumbled across is Emenegger Nature Park in Kirkwood (especially if you take some of the little side loops, although you never escape the traffic noise), which is practically across the street from Laumeier Sculpture Park, a great short trail for more casual or family hikes. Really have enjoyed your videos, although you're definitely walking notably longer than the trail distance says to get some of those great camera shots of you walking!
Thank you for this wealth of info!!! Really appreciate it. Definitely going to add these to my to do list. 🤙 I’m glad you’re getting back out there. Keep at it! And yes, I probably add about a mile or more to my hikes just walking back and forth to get the camera 😂
Bike-Pack the Katy trail. Plenty of resources. I hope to do it one day. I wanted to years ago when I still lived there, but it want completed yet. Some good short 1hr-1day rides from St Charles.
Welcome to the FB group! I'm a new member too and that is where I found you. Love your videos! My wife and I have both lost a in lot of weight and have started hiking to get in better shape, your videos helps us make plans of where to go. This is on our list! Keep them coming!
Wow! Thank you Mike. I feel so honored. I will for sure keep them coming. And congratulations to you and your wife! That’s amazing. Keep up the good work. I really appreciate you, your wife and everyone in the Facebook group being so welcoming. I really do appreciate it. See you at next the one! 🤙

Peaceful
Thanks man! It’s always nice to be out there solo 🤙
What a cutie!.

Another low effort high reward hike when hiking with kids. Close to St. Louis with a river and creeks for skipping rocks. Got to skip rocks.
the fact that Castlewood is so close to STL is such a huge blessing. it's almost like a city park, but has amazing trails and views
