You should have played your Green 9 first to keep control. You can score 3 & 4 at the same time. A lot of your game is getting the correct person control at the right time.
critical interpretation mistake at 25:30 about the pink cards. It's also very possible that Jean just wants to get rid of her pink cards because they all are lower, so that she can use a rocket card to get the final trick. So playing the pink 6 in that situation still was risky.
For me, Rahdo's strength is showing what it feels like to play a game and what aspect of the game is uniquely appealing. Still it's nice to have subtitles in case one of the rules goofs would have a big effect on how it feels to play.
Maybe this isn't a goof, but it's terrible play at 17:49 when Rahdo deliberately loses the yellow hand. Remember, you need to win the 2 green tricks and need control. Play the yellow 6, 8 or 9 to beat Jen's 2 and Jarvis' 4
When playing the second trick, couldn't you just have played the green 4 to win the green 3, thereby getting two missions at once? Or do the rules not allow that?
Yes, that is allowed. From the rules: "It can happen that several tasks with task tokens are won by a single crew member in the same trick. If these task tokens are consecutive, for example, 1 and 2, or >> and >>>, both are considered to have been correctly fulfilled regardless of which was played first."
Not sure if it's the place to mention or if it's really important, but... At 10:13 you talk about the contents of Jen's hand mentioning also green where this should be yellow. But apart from this, I want to play this game!!!
Great runthrough, but I think you can go much faster. Once you explain how trick taking works I believe it's pretty clear what Jarvis should not play if you play the green 7. :)
i am curious about that one, but i don't have any direct info. but if you ask here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/377793/jekyll-hyde-vs-scotland-yard you might to get a good answer :)
Great video (as always), Richard But OMG... (with all due respect) watching you struggle through the trick-taking aspect was PAINFUL!!! ROTF. I suppose I take my earlier bridge playing experience for granted. Keep up the wonderful work on your videos, man! 'The Crew" looks like an absolute winner in my book.
@@rahdo Hee Hee... I thank Paulo for being brutally honest :-) I can see how CRAZY-FUN how careful planning and delicate card play is required to have success in later (more difficult) missions! Looks like a really fun cooperative game. It's rare to have this angle with a trick-taking game. And for a $15 price point no less!!! You seriously can't go wrong with this game. Thx for demoing this!

Question! At 18:49 couldnt you have played the 4 and won both tricks simultaneously? I assume you couldnt do that if it was 1 and 3, but since its 1 and 2? (new to these types of games but the rule book says you can.... i think)
What I find fascinating about this game is that it's a trick-taking game with a competitive element, so that you will sometimes LOSE a trick you can easily take.
You mentioned when communicating that you indicate whether it's your highest, lowest, or only card of that colour. What if it's none of those... is there a code for that? Like say I want to share with everyone that I have the blue 4 because it's a mission card... but I also have a blue 2, 7, and 9.
You can't. But you can communicate later in game. IE play the 2 then communicate that the 4 is now your lowest card. Also, there's traditional trick taking communication. IE, you can sacrifice a large blue card when you don't need to, that would communicate you have plenty of large blue cards. (so if you need the hand back to you, someone can play a small blue card) Finally mission cards are easier to win when they are not in your hand. The one that need to collect the blue 4 could play a blue 8 and hope the person that have the blue 4 pay attention. Suppose the person that need to win the 4 don't have the 8, but also don't have the 7 and 9 because you have it. They could play a 6, but also clarify 6 is their best attempt at playing a high blue card.
Shouldn't Jen be dumping low pinks to give herself the best chance of winning the pink 6? How did you win this Richard? I can only assume that in a real game without pressure to talk to us, your brain works a lot more effectively :)
Not your best explanation but thanks again 😉 game looks like a less interesting version of what we call in the Netherlands "klaverjassen" or another similar card game "slagen raden". Both with normal.playing cards. So another rip off that apparently also made it into a hit looking at the bgg rating. Just so you know: you don't need to buy this game to get this experience.
This is a very different experience. First, it's a fully co-op game (not teams) which is rare in the trick taking world. Second, it has a puzzle aspect with 50 "missions" offering a lot of variety. Finally, it has a cool space theme! It definitely has something different to offer from 2-player competitive trick-taking games like klaverjassen.
@Appie Dappie ah I was thinking of the two player trick taking game called Klaberjass. Very similar name! I can see that the game you mentioned sounds very similar to the Crew, so it's a fair point. For someone like me who has not played a 2+ player co-op trick taking game, this game sounds really neat, and the space theme definitely doesn't hurt!
Despite your enthusiasm I think this game seems boring as hell. I really hate games where the theme doesn't actually influence the gameplay but it's just something completely shallow added for looks. Here's a test you can do: If the theme can be replaced with "types of poop" without changing the actual gameplay at all, you know the theme is completely irrelevant.

When playing 2 player with JARVIS, you pull out the 4 Rocket before dealing out the JARVIS cards.
