    I know this video is over a year old, but I wanted to leave a comment. When I tried running Edge of the Empire I got really frustrated with the die system. Largely because I was adjucating everything. I didn't know that the players were supposed to narrate the positive effects of Advantage and Triumph. That makes things a lot easier and makes it more of a back and forth in the narrative between the GM and players. Thanks for clearing that up!

    the dice pool is actually quite easy to read and understand once you start playing

    Played d&d when a kid back in 80s and loved it, found star wars RPG a few years back and my own kids and I absolutely love it and I love narrative dice WAY more. And star wars is both all drama, peril, good and bad luck, and humor. This was a good explanation of the basics of the dice. They get even more intense when the force destiny ports are used by the GM or players, how using dark points cause strain for light siders, and the opposite too, and how advantages or threats can do many different things, make critical hits if enough, or be like a despair if enough. There is also still a need for a d10 for stage of critical injury. So fun especially if there is peril and humor at same time. We act it all out like full episodes in a huge years-long story line.

    one thing I struggle with in this game are opposed checks for example stealth vs perception could you do a tutorial on that? Also force dice for anyone not in the know, they are simple.

    I just don’t understand when you roll the boost or setback dice. Is it for every roll?

      Sure! Rolling a Despair on the red dice, along with a bunch of Faulre and Threat and 0 Success or Advantage. Yeah... you're screwed!

    How/When do I change my ability dice into a proficient dice? And what dice do I put into the dice pool. Like what positive dice and what negative dice?

    • @dave3805
      @dave3805 3 роки тому

      I'm learning also. But from what I've seen, the green dice are based on your character attributes. If you have a rank in that ability you swap out a green for a yellow. The GM determines black, red, and boost dice.

      +BraidXIV would you recommend edge of the empire or force and destiny?

    • @Savingthrowshow
      @Savingthrowshow  8 років тому +2

      They're both pretty much the same. It depends on if you want to run Jedi in your campaign or not. Force & Destiny contains more rules for that. EotE deals mostly with "Force sensitives" when it comes to the Force at all. Of the three books currently out for Fantasy Flight's Star Wars RPG consider them like this: If you'd like to run a Boba Fett/Han Solo adventure use Edge of the Empire. If you'd like to do a Rogue Squadron/Rogue One type adventure use Age of Rebellion. If you'd like to do an Old Republic Jedi game choose Force & Destiny. They all overlap a lot - it's just some specifics in occupations and abilities that differentiate the books.

    Seems like a gimmicky version of the FATE system. It would seem like all that would result in total chaos as these "extra good and bad things" would happen quite often. Sometimes, things just have to happen straight forward. Good tutorial thought. Thanks!

    that's confusing.

    • @SKfilming

      I guess mainly the triupm and despair. are they common? or is it more rare to get those?

    • @Savingthrowshow
      @Savingthrowshow  8 років тому +6

      It's pretty rare. 1 in 12 chance of getting one. And the red die needs to be put into play for an extremely difficult check... which is also rare. You'd have to be doing something incredibly dangerous and daring to warrant a red die (which is where you'd find a Despair). But we have had rolls where both a Triumph and Despair show up!

    • @SKfilming
      @SKfilming 8 років тому +1

      oh okay! I understood those dice are rolled like every time. sounds good.

  • @drsch

    I'd have to play it but this looks game breakingly complicated and would just result in massive amounts of conflict and argument at the table.

  • @wingedhussar2909

    Sounds like it puts a lot on the GM's shoulders to come up with partial successes and failures.

    • @Savingthrowshow
      @Savingthrowshow  5 місяців тому

      It can, but it really depends on the table. In our games the players often suggest what successes and failures look like.

    Will have to use this to create my own replacement dice sets. Price fo the set is outrageous here, can reach 15$, so for 4 sets i would need to GM the game i would have to pay 60$ on top of a rulebook. Thats bs. And asking your friends to buy it is just a no. Will most likely buy a bulk of clear dice for 4-5$ and apint them accordingly.

      @@dave3805 I have a strict rule, that unless its gonna be used in the story, likea a replacement for a in lore communication device, all mobiles at the table have to be off, or at least set aside. So that would be huge hipocrisy from my end towards the players.

      Hey James! Anything specific we can help with? Once you get the hang of what symbol cancels what, it becomes a lot easier. After that it's merely determining difficulty of roles. We hope to go into more depth in future videos!

    the dice are just another gimmick by fantasy flight games to suck more money out of your pocket for an already ridiculously overpriced game.

  • @carpetclimber4027
    @carpetclimber4027 7 років тому

    We stopped playing this game because of these useless dices and bad rules. It's a cash cow. If we play SW, we play the old game from the 80s, because it's actually better and that's a tragedy.

    • @SapphireSandwichBoys
      @SapphireSandwichBoys 5 років тому +2

      The dice are pretty cool. It's, at the very least, a refreshing change from something like D&D for example. Personally role playing games are meant to be a collaborative story telling experience, and dice systems that allow everyone to have influence on the story is really cool. If i'm not mistaken, the FATE system in the "A Tale of Ice and Fire" roleplaying game functions very similarly. Not everything is going to be a clear cut "good" or "bad" thing and I think this does a pretty good job of conveying that in a meaningful and mechanical way.
