      I always wondered, in your opinion is knowing the odds you are up against considered metagaming? For example, if a player wants to charm an npc and the difficulty is 2p and 1r. Player fails. Another player originally wanted to try as well but decided against it after seeing the dice.

    • @carlosrivera9047
      @carlosrivera9047 2 роки тому +1

      One other thing, the order of how dice are added to the pool should be emphasized (i learned this the hard way). Per core book, the order should always be adding dice, then upgrading, then downgrading, finally removing dice. CRB pg 20.

    • @TheTabletopEmpire
      @TheTabletopEmpire  2 роки тому +2

      It can be, but the dice are never absolute. I would encourage to play the game first, and worry about dice rolls second. The player shouldn't say "I want to try a charm check" instead it should be a roll that comes after the roleplayed action.
      And that is correct! The book has info on the order of upgrading and downgrading!

      @@carlosrivera9047, I’m a firm believer that no check should be made twice unless there are consequences involved. That is that character’s “scene”.
      So in your example, the Charm check may have been a Hard difficulty. If the check failed, and another PC wanted to try the same thing, for me there would be setback at least, an increase in difficulty, and/or a full upgrade, depending on the circumstances.

    I played this for years when it released. I let my players roll all the dice all the time. As a GM I had enough to do and they loved the transparency.
    Also I let them suggest results for the negative effects too. We would effectively quickly workshop the outcome as a collective narrators, we’d go with the idea that was the most fun, dramatic or ‘star wars’

    We played this rpg a lot when it came out some 11y ago. EotE Starter, 3y homebrew campaign, 1y Arda I, 1y Gatekeeper.
    This Game is sooo good. It gets clunky in longer campaigns if you grant too much XP.
    After playing Genesys, Warhammer 4e, Pathfinder 2e, DnD 5e I am going for a revisit of this awesome RPG .

    At first didn’t like the dice 🎲 mostly due to be a little less straight forward. However after watching the crazy fun old Yogcast rpg play throughs - and as I understood more - it’s so great to have these story telling dice with advantages/disadvantages. So now I love the story & power it gives the players 🎉😂

    Most of the time I actually don't tell my players how many purple dice are needed for the roll and I roll them, while the players roll only "good" dice. I make sure that they know how difficult these actions are from a narrative perspective, but not from a mechanical one. I like the idea that they fail an action but because of some advantages they might believe they succeded, or some threats happened and they don't know it immediately.

    Even though it's (in my eyes) complicated: the narrative dice can be replaced by normal dice with help of the table in the core rules.
    But the bigger question: where to get dice? It seems every store is empty.
    But with the switch to Edge Studios they should be available again, maybe end of this year (or so I was told).

    • @TheTabletopEmpire
      @TheTabletopEmpire  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately the game is moving publishers at the moment so stock is low everywhere. There are phone apps and websites that should be able to hold people over until the dice come back in stock. I've also heard that it will be later this year

    I think that they should have used star wars symbols for the dice, like a rebel symbol for success and empire for failure. I don't know what an explosion or arrow means, but I get the the good guys are a good for the players.

    • @TheTabletopEmpire
      @TheTabletopEmpire  Рік тому +1

      You roll combat skills, so a blaster pistol rolls ranged light.
      You then take the weapon damage and add 1 per success. So 2 success rolled on a 6 damage pistol is 8 damage.
      I have 3 videos covering combat in the beginners guide series :)

    • @TheTabletopEmpire

    I've recently started playing SW EotE with a frew friends. Now in our 6th session and I still find the dice confusing as fuck. The symbol for a success is an explosion (why?), then you have a Jedi symbol which also is good but less good, then the empire symbol for disadvantage (?) and the triangle for something else? Some are combined, some are not - it's completely inconsistent to me. Recently played Mutant Year Zero with the multiple D6 and it was far more conclusive.

      The other thing that many people miss is the way you can use the dice to interpret the situation.
      Everything that the GM pushes towards or that the players work for (like gaining BOOST die for good RPG, or ADVANTAGES turning into a BOOST from a previous check), came from some narrative effect. Even your character's training came from somewhere. Got a couple of ranks in ATHLETICS? Perhaps that tricky situation during the Battle of Tennab might help you in this instance?
      So in our example, if your character is walking across a tightrope over lava, there may be a SETBACK from the "wind", the CHALLENGE dice from the "lava", the BOOST from the "self stabilizing apparatus" (pole), and three DIFFICULTY. So if you rolled a THREAT on the SETBACK, it indicates that at that moment, a sudden gust of wind perhaps caused you to falter, the two THREAT from the CHALLENGER die meant thelava suddenly errupted fraying the rope.
      No matter the result of the check, you can use the dice to tell an even more exciting story.
