I think one big thing that is missing from the non-human animal brains is the real “sense of self”. Chimpanzees are so far the only ones who will, eventually, recognise themselves from a mirror (example).

philippines stray cats will break your heart. there is no animal control and they are treated horrible. i once fed one with a foot long machete scar on its back. if you ever want a cat you can literally just pick them up on the road. dozens of abandoned 4 week old cats on the street every night. the people in that country are some of the most deceptive lying two bit con artists.

This reminds me of one time when I was little. My family and I were visiting Gibraltar. I had sat down on a curb while my parents asked for directions. Next thing I know, four or five stray cats have just started crawling all over me. It was the greatest day of my young life.
There are also monkeys. Very cute.

No joke I would go here every day after work just to decompress and get greeted by fur babies. This place is perfect

It's not just this place. I was in Istanbul in Feb last year, and it was funny to see the metro stations full of cats. Some of them seem oblivious to the thousands of rush hour communters. In Sirkeci station the workers have built little houses for them, and you see commuters bring food for them every day. I have lived in other parts of Turkey where animals are not treated as well, but in Istanbul they really love cats.

also cat shows affection by closing eyes or making it small. if cat does that then it's a friendly cat . wide open eyes are alert mode.

With time, patience and persistence, I've seen even the wildest of ferals to start coming around too. Of course they won't sit in your lap, but you see them trusting you more and more 😊

As we can see, they are good for community. In our Europe, all stray cats are taken from streets? but there is a reason, but people could kill them, no culture to carry about cats and no defense.

totally. turkish people care about all strays (some are scared about dogs but they are still well cared in most places too) especially cats and birds. i had a friend who was pissed off cause the stray cat he has been taking of was wandering in the whole neighbourhood being spoiled by other people. their "owners", they have none. each person fed and petted the cat gave him a different name. their caregivers are most of the community. not "owners".

These cats are not spayed or neutered and can have a litter when they are four months old. That's why we aim to take them off the streets as there are so many of them living very short and miserable lives.
These cats don't look like they are living miserable lives. It boils down to the type of people in your country and probably religion and culture have a lot to do with it too. Notable places for cat paradise are Japan's Cat Island and Istanbul in Turkey ❤

This is the same park i used to walk everyday on. When i was living in Fenerbahce Istanbul, there would be (and will) hundreds of cute cats coming next to you. People would feed them everyday and take care of those cats. It is wholesome!

this reminds me of when i was in the mental hospital having a panic attack feeling stuck and sad missing home and just overall having a shit time and one of the nurses was telling me about this island and printed out a article for us to read together to soothe down my panic attack it was one of the worst i’ve had in my life yet that article these cats and that nurse helped me so so much.
