Man that’s the same problem i have at my house. The only opening i have is covered in ferns. I never thought a plot would do anything there. I guess im gone have to put Hunter to work next spring now LOL. As always great job sir!

Thanks for the food plot info Duane! Like the Dude always saids "A little BS and some ferns always brings the food plot together." Actually, he was referring to his rug bringing the room together, but, you know what i mean. I just clicked your link on the "Comeback Kid" seed and looks like I have to wait for it to come back in stock. I tried some "throw & grow" stuff last season and the deer ate my little plot before the season started. I did take out 2 does and a decent buck and got my seed back though...:)...this may or may not be a totally true story. But, I do want to put out some seed that will last a few seasons to come. Thanks for the reminder to get out to the woods and start preparing!

Bahahha. Sounds like those deer are “entering a world of pain”. Yeah I’m a big fan of the perennials in Comeback Kid. Less work next year and the deer will be in there early! Best of luck with your plot!!! ☘️🦌🦌🦌

Same issue here. We blew all the leaves off a section of power lines and exposed the soil. We sprayed when things started greening up and planted Hotchic a week later. The ferns sprouted after we sprayed and planted. Going to mow them down tomorrow with the mower as high as it'll go. Probably going to spot treat the ferns.

Thanks for the info. If you could, please let me know how everything ends up after your process. I’m always up for trying different strategies 👍🏻

Need a little more sun. That would help get rid of the ferns a bit . Cutting a couple boarding trees on South side of plot would make a big difference 👍🏼👍🏼 looks good though for sure

Oh for sure. I gotta raise the PH. This spot is way up in the woods, so I don’t think I’ll be messing with adjusting the PH any time soon haha. I definitely need to work on an area that’s closer though. Thanks for the heads up 👍🏻

    So in hindsight, your thoughts?
Would it have been better to wait 2-4 weeks after ferns establish, spray kill, then seed? Just wondering what you think. Thanks 👍🏻

Hey thanks for watching! Over several years experimenting, I've found the best approach that works for me (in this environment) for a short term plot for archery season is to take the ferns out in late July/early August as they tend to not grow back for the rest of the year. I then plant after raking up all the ferns. This will allow my food plot to develop for a solid two months before I'm ready for archery season in October. In the case of this video, I may look more long term (that's why the clovers are in there so they pop up in the spring next year). I'm always experimenting though haha, so I may try spraying the ferns at some point.
