Do not confuse ryegrass with cereal rye. They are not the same. With that being said, if you see a seed blend with ryegrass in it, save your money. All ryegrass does is make your plot look pretty and green but has no food value to deer.

Evan, we plant it for our cattle during the winter, as do 10s of thousands of other ranchers, we don't plant it because it has no nutritional value to the animals. News flash if cattle benefit from it, so will deer. I've planted all of this stuff before, some of it is good some of it is not. That said I plant a few places every year with just good ole fashion Gulf Rye grass, and the deer and turkey both love it. Not saying its not good for you at your place, but I think I lot of this stuff depends on your location (temperture, rain fall, etc.,) and also your soil type.
Rye grass isn't the best, but it does work for me at my places, again both cattle and deer
So no Evan, not well said.

Point being if it’s dye grass don’t spend the big money on a fancy bag deer plot, go at store buy some grass seed far cheaper and Bermuda has more nutrients than rye

Awesome content. Did you water the seeds in at all? planting a 1/4 acre food plot this year and this video helped a lot. Just ordered "green machine" from Domain because i have low PH soil. Thank you!

Hey James! Thanks so much man. I didn’t water them… luckily we’ve had a good bit of rain here lately in PA. Also, I just put in a throw and grow food plot with Green Machine and will hopefully have a video out on it in Sunday. Hook me up and hit subscribe if you could and check back for that Green Machine video 👍🏻

Blessing and curse with the rye grass it’s a soil builder along with feeding deer late season here in PA I’ve had luck with rye and clover mixed I also had brassicas but they turned yellow my soil was deficient in certain nutrients I believe potassium which is very loose and free in the soil so it doesn’t stick well I established my first food-plot last summer and had great success in October I killed my biggest buck to date over rye and clover . this year I finally had enough time to work on the rest and got clover frost seeded and it some areas it’s doin fantastic others not so much I believe if I put in a cover crop like rye grass/grain it’ll help weed pressure and protect the clover I have there already so the deer don’t notice and let it reach maturity and have a good root base

Not sure what video you were watching or your level of understanding on what deer do and don’t eat, but I thought the results were pretty conclusive. You are right about one thing. I am biased because I have experience with both products and know what actually works.
