The buildings were Pump houses by the locks. They had to raise and lower the water levels when opening and closing gates, could not happen without pump houses. Thank you for the video, I miss living in PA so much. And this storm (Hurricane) we just got in Florida is another reason to miss PA. Maybe God is telling me go back to the cold winters? I lived in the Chambersburg/Waynesboro area's of PA. Would of loved to meet you along my exploring PA, MD, Va, WV. Started exploring about 1980, to bad I did not have way to film it back then, Lol. Looking forward to the next video, Peace, Love, God Bless.
Ok, that was a really fun day. So many cool things to see along the way. Feeling the history as we went and the laughs along the way were much needed and the shots from the camera assistant turned out great. Thank you for letting me help you with that part and for showing me the cool stuff you found on your previous journey. I am definitely looking forward to that winter return trip.
Hi Jay, some neat history that I did take the time to read. Those cold storage area's were very cool, I found out the bigger 1 of the two was in fact a fruit cellar, I will post info and pic on your FB page. That was some awesome filming catching that Canadian Goose in flight, a great catch. Your photography and filming has come on in leaps and bounds since you started. Some great research and a great adventure with some cool bloopers lol. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx ❤
That was a lot of fun ..( .and love the bloopers 🤣) I love history . It fascinates me that the cold cellars could have been built in the early 1800's .Beautiful area and so many interresting structures . like the overflow channel .. .Love it . Thank you to your "hoppity friend 🐸" and your camera man ..great job , RJ.👍 Another awesome video , Jay . You never disappoint !
That is so cool. So much history. Wouldn't it be awesome if the canal was able to take people on small excursions on the water. I am in awe with the history there. ✌
Awesome adventure JP! That old canal is wonderful! such beauty and history! and all the surrounding suprises were great! Awesome video! Thanks for bringing us along!
Nice explore. @40:00, you can continue. My wife and I did a video at the Parryvile area where there is a bigger lock. The D&L trail takes you under 476 turnpike bridge which is huge!!
The trail actually does continue through the cement plant and goes for a little farther. There is an amazing lock (size) down there you missed on the other side of the concrete plant. However, the park does end there at Parryville where the Pohopoco Creek meets the Lehigh. Love you covering places near where I live. It's an amazing area to explore with lots to see.
I used to work on that canal I helped put the sidewalks in back in 1994 plus did other projects along the canal it was one of my favorite jobs i worked for the Pennsylvania conservation corps
Really interesting history and the buildings again have such amazing construction. It’s unbelievable to think they were constructed long ago. The canal is so cool, there is so much to see! What a beautiful park to explore! It was so neat to see all the nature too, frogs, fish, and geese and can’t forget the crickets. RJ did an awesome job filming and the bloopers are so funny! 😂 Great video JP! Thank you!
That was just awesome! You had everything in one video! History, beautiful location and weather, an assistant, the bloopers. Who could ask for more? Loved it Jay! Thank you for sharing this amazing video! 💙
This was a really cool video really liked it just shows there's history all around us !! Also those fish we're totally checking out your camera under the water !! And that Duck Landing was really cool !! Really cool pictures at the end also !! 👍👍 Great video as always !
I really like these locations. It is so cool to see all of the locks, abandoned structures; oh the stories they can tell. The rope marks in the stone is insane. Great video as always, my brother.
Your in my back yard. Hope you hit Chantilly Ice-cream in Wiessport. They also have some cool penny Candy that is no longer a penny"L" If you went straight on the road, it would take you to the Lehigh canal Park which is across from Riverwalck restaurant. Thanks for the video:)
Will definitely have to check that out in the future. Thank you for the recommendation. And I did show him that the park was there with another lock. And oddly enough, Riverwalck is where him and I first met 3 years ago when I bought his old Panasonic Camera from him.
J and J, That's a really interesting area. It m would have been well maintained at one time because those signs must have described an historical area, but now everything is falling and decaying. There has to be archival information about the Cold storage and Spring. What do you think? Rik
Very interesting area and history. I am curious about the cold cellars/storage buildings. It is hard to tell from the video. Were they close enough to the canal to have been used in storing/holding freight being transported on the canal?
Always wondered what was in that hole. Weissport has some festivals through out the year and they have hay rides that go in both directions and I noticed that hole yrs ago on the hayride. I was just to lazy to walk back there lol
at first i thought it may have been a lock tenders shack. but i would think it may have been a smoke house. the hams could hang and cure a long time. i suspect that the American canals and lockes operated similar to yje ones in England. There is a vast written history in many stories and movies about those.
you missed the lock after rockhill cement it ends at the lehigh river also has a nice bridge there across from riverwalck i grew up in parryville and seen giant carp there when the river is high but great video awsome seeing my hometown
Thanks for joining me for another adventure. Hoped you enjoyed this look at the Lehigh Canal Park. Btw, did you catch the bloopers at the end?

Can only imagine what else we'll find in the winter. Can't wait to see your video!

There's an active canal in NY that I hope to ride on next year.
A beautiful place to explore J.P 😄🚲
Indeed!
Awesome adventure JP! That old canal is wonderful! such beauty and history! and all the surrounding suprises were great! Awesome video! Thanks for bringing us along!

Where you were feeding the ducks that is only about 10 years old
Thanks for the info and great work on the project
I remember seeing the area with the steps going to the water many years ago. Back in the day when I never took pictures of anything.
Love the video JP, so much beautiful scenery. I love the PA nature 👍👍👍👍
What a beautiful place to explore!! Love hearing about the history! Great, interesting video! Thank you for taking me along!!
Really beautiful and cool park. Coal country has some real treasures. Thanks for taking us with you J!

Thanks Pam
Love the outtakes!
You need a gel seat. Those are comfy on long bike rides.
This was a really cool video really liked it just shows there's history all around us !! Also those fish we're totally checking out your camera under the water !! And that Duck Landing was really cool !! Really cool pictures at the end also !! 👍👍 Great video as always !
Thanks Robert. Those fish definitely werent camera shy.

It's nice to find those little hidden features like the rope burns. Pretty interesting stuff.
In the winter time when the canals froze over they would harvest the ice out and save it in those cold storage cellers/ ice houses
Enjoyed the outing, it was nice to be out & about before summer disappears.

You had me at ice cream!
I know this place very well lots of memories there there is more to see for sure
Amazing work those old timers did
All bike seats are torture devices.
great video 👍
I absolutely love the Lehigh Valley. I'd love to live there but probably can't afford to buy there. 😕
It's a beautiful area with several small towns.
Blame the high prices on the fake new yorkers that took over 😂
On the Lehigh river just west of Whitehaven there's some old railroad bridges and stuff.
Beautiful area!
I hope to explore more of the trails in that area.
J and J,
That's a really interesting area.

They were 50ft or less from the canal
Hey jpvids have u been to Campbell's ledge? It's a pretty cool view I recommend it if u haven't done it yet
Always wondered what was in that hole. Weissport has some festivals through out the year and they have hay rides that go in both directions and I noticed that hole yrs ago on the hayride. I was just to lazy to walk back there lol

I'll have to check that one next time. Thanks for checking out the video.
Nice
That was a furnace of some sort with a chimney
@ 1655 those are old ice caves
also when you reach parryville directly acrross the lehigh river was a furnace
21:40 the material came in after they built it, seems like a flood of dirt almost that flowed around it
Love the channel but when are you going to explore abandoned buildings again?
JP cracks corn?
You can go farther there is another lock beyond the big bridge I go fishing down there
are you doing anymore of those videos where you and your daughter try different kinds of food ?
😂😂😂❤️🌻
I always wonder why no one ever closes those open shafts up.. would hate for some kid to fall in!!! May never be found again..
Asa Packer created the locks
busy now will resume my viewing send Again Sla'inte Sl'an
