My goal in this video was to use the double blip technique to ride over the log and land softly on two wheels on the other side. The double blip technique is extremely tough to learn, especially on a full sized bike rather than a trials bike. But it’s something Ive been working on for a long time and had a bit of a break through today. I didn’t quite nail it but I will break it all down for you guys. We will go over what went wrong and what went right and then hopefully I can nail it on the next round.
So getting over a log this size with the double blip method can be intimidating. It’s not a problem to get over it with a more simple method such as using the skid plate (which I’ll show you guys later on), but the double blip is certainly more difficult. I definitely had to psych my self up for this one and really think about all the steps in my head before attempting it.
A lot of things need to come together with perfect timing to make this work. The things that I’m really focusing on are not coming in with a bunch of speed, punching the log with my front tire about 2/3’s of the way up, giving it that burst of throttle with the pop of the clutch to get the rear wheel to jump up the log, and making sure to get my weight back over the rear fender so the rear wheel doesn’t spin on the log.
I’m 24 and just started dirt biking. There is so much more to it than I originally thought. I love your videos and how you show your process, your mistakes, and how you deal with them and keep moving forward then celebrate in the end. You have a great mindset and it’s inspiring. You and your videos have been very helpful to me.
"It's huge!" That's definitely what she said
😂😂😂
She felt it was huge.
"its easy" lol jeeze i love megs brapp so much energy. crazy how talented she is!
Thank you :).
You could have just moved like three feet to the right and gone right around the log. JK nice work Megs that takes serious commitment to use this technique on a log that size.
Hahaha very true 😂. Unfortunately, like many other dirt bike riders, I am sick in the head and enjoy putting myself through the ringer hahah.
Megg you tackled that log like a bad ass! Im proud you made a vid about this. I love this manuever everytime ive ever seen a stump, log, rock im Sending it!
I never knew this maneuver had a name. Double blip. So "double blippin" is sometimes one of the few options in couple parts of my woods. The core technique is tricky. When its landed perfect on 2 wheels, the excitement is thru the roof!!
It should be practiced to get out of certain scenarios.
Kinda feels like a bunny hop when done smooth. Compression and jumping is essential. Sweet spot on throttle is a must. Most of all don't sissy out mid log. We all have done it. Lol
Btw we appreciate you hauling your camera in the woods to film this. That minor inconvenience on a bike gives us content when were in the AC!
Stay safe! ✌
Megs Braap what gear are you in when you’re doing this?
I love the emotional honesty you bring to your lessons. Lot of folks don't have the rocks to say "This is the part that scares me." but that is part of getting a new technique in the tool bag. You do a great job of showing all the good, bad, and progress that comes from practice. And that, along with the technique, is what makes everyone a better rider, practice!
Thanks Myron! I really try my best to be as real as possible in hopes that I can inspire my viewers to try it themselves :D.
Watching you slide off the side to touch is bad ass. So many people think you have to flat foot a bike to ride it. You rock.
Hobblecreekkid Thats exactly my point when I hear people complaining about too high bikes. Many enduro riders will never be able to get even two foot tips down. Move your a... to the side, get one foot down and thats enough. I am 1.71m with a 30“ inseam and have no problem that way with my KTM 790 R!
I love the “then we’re not going to freak out”. Haha awesome! Funny stuff there.
☺️😂
What I like the most in your videos is that you make it all more humanly possible. Seeing those well paid professionals doing it discourages us.
Italeao Thanks man! That’s exactly what I’m going for!
It is amazing how dirt bikes and talent have progressed. Megs would have been a Tier One Pro when I was a teenager. Jarvis is already a god winning Erzberg again, number #5, technically #6! I can only imagine how far the sport will progress in another 20 years. Thanks to technology good riders can share what they've learned. I wish I had this resource when I was a kid. I could have been a contender lol. The younger readers may not get the reference.
Make sure to use your body and jump up at the correct time. Really pop that clutch, the instant engagement of the clutch will make a huge difference!
Thank you so much for all your videos. i am an experienced rider, but i am 67, so, not too sound sexist, its helpful to see a smaller person without the upper body strength of a pro male rider getting over such obstacles.
We. As in my 8yr old grand daughter / me are watching ..n she loves the fact your a girl. We use your advice and shrink the logs ..so far shes digging it all ..so much learned and the bond we've made ..cant thank you enough ..gr8 vids
I admire your relentless pursuit for perfection . Thanks for showing how hard that is and how much practice needs to be put in .
Really nice, showing us your progression helps us get out there and practice, look forward to seeing you perfect that and hearing what you discover next
Good job tomboy!!
You’re bringing back good memories..
My wife was crazy and brave as you on a 1980 cr250.
Thank you and keep it safe.
Love seeing the hard work and being able to enjoy the outcome !! Great job
Instructions not clear.. I have a Protaper emblem stamped on my forehead :)
😂
Lmao that's hilarious
Helmets go with dirtbikes.
Lmfao 😂😂😂
OMFG 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Your videos have been more helpful to me than many of the others I've seen! You make the challenging stuff seem not necessarily easy, but far more achievable! Thank you!
Thumbs up for all The effort and happines this video brings😍
So I am used to doing this on my full Enduro. I tried it on my KTM 640 adventure on 50/50 tires. Got the first log and on the second. I spun the back hit the front on the face of the log and stopped dead. Laughed my head off and went around the log. Keep up the great riding. Your awesome.
WOOOW GREAT JOB!!!!! I mastered this a looooong time ago aboard a 1982 Suzuki RM 250Z. It was actually a phenomenal trail bike and it handled large logs almost effortlessly when I finally got the balls to commit to the practice. I had a really nice pipe guard but no engine guard on that bike. Never had any problems. I liked that bike so much I went out and bought another one when my first one got worn out. Wish I still had it. One of my all time favorite bikes, and I've had 48 in my long off road riding career. I'm 54 now. I had those RM's when I was in my teens and early 20's My current ride is a 2010 Husaberg FE 570. Love this torque monster!!!!
Great video, nice concise, clear explanation and demonstration and youre simply so entertaining to watch. Great energy! :)
Its so great to watch you Megs a very talented but "non pro" rider. The 6 foot tall professional riders make it look so easy and that can be kind of discouraging for someone learning.
Meg your energy is contagious
Awesome, thanks!
Great video. You are so much braver than I am.
I rode horses over jumps that tall and never thought anything about it. I can't dig up the guts to jump a log that big with my bike.
It is really great to see you working through this jump and not panicking because you skewed up. It makes me want to work harder at learning this technique.
Thank you for sharing.
Great vid! I now understand the concept. I would be happy with any of the times you made it over that I didn’t land on my arse! Look forward to the follow up vid!
Wow. Love the dedication. I am a fan.
Thank you!! You're wonderful. Really nice explanations. I hope can get it in practice soon.
Great video. Entertaining and educational. The best way to learn and teach!
Thanks Dave!! I really appreciate that :).
Megs, ya still made it over the log be proud! You’re a way better rider Then I am. Cheers to you!!
brett kovak budy she never said she wasnt good or not proud
You're awesome Megs....your enthusiasm and bravery are infectious and I would be surprised if your subscriber numbers skyrocket! Your analysis is great, but id love to hear more about your progression of your clutch pop and synchronised throttle.
your victory dance was just adorable and awsome nice work
Hey, Megs. Loved it. It’s your work and determination. I was routing for you. Then you did it. I was mentally tackling you. Screaming at you. U DID IT. U DID IT. YEAH.
Wow, great videos. You are providing some great tutorials for even old school guys like me. Nicely done.
Nice! I too am having the same problem, haven't perfected the blip and the longer the time in between practicing this does my mind in and end up nose down most of the time.
It helped. It shows you have to work for it. WE all have to work for it. Cool video!!
Heck yeah! It takes tons of practice and lots and lots of fails before it all starts coming together.
Great job!
Great vid on a difficult issue. I recemtly started practicing a big 75cm profile loader tyre that is hardly the axle length of the bike. That lets you stop on top, breath, and come down on your own time when ready. This seems to really help me dreak down the up an down. Log and bigger rock started to have a new peace to them.
You are awesome you got so much energy keep it up
I get that theres more to the technique, but you still get over the obstacle!
and those "it finally clicked" moments are why I ride!
Exactly! Those moments feel so great. They motivate me to keep pushing and bettering my skills!
Awesome breakdown. Thanks soo much for putting this together!!
You're so welcome! I'm always stoked to see you watching and enjoying the vids. Your support means a lot!
I have been enjoying watching and learning from your vids. You ain't no slouch!! That takes balls.
R G Thank you!
Megs character really comes out in this vid as she is really pumped and having a great day : )
Good onya Megs! You're a bloody charger!
Gotta give this young man credit for the effort. Good job.
Thanks! ☺️
Great video, I'm currently working on the same technique. Thanks, can't wait to get out there!
That was pretty sweet I'd say, good job!!
Thanks! ☺️👊
Great video thanks! I'm 8 weeks into owning a trials bike and the double blip/zap is very tough and intimidating to get down
This video makes me feel unskilled
your determination is impressive
Thanks for posting this. Nice to see the the pros (I consider you a pro!) and their many attempts. Often on youtube we just see the glory shots :)
Excellent video!
Love your passion.....
Great attitude dude. Practice practice and wala! Success! Good vid!!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
It’s easy lmao! I thought you were serious there for a second
Bike looks sick!
what an inspiration! haha your the best megs!
Haha thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@@megs_braap =)
That girl knows how to ride! What a commitment and dare-devil! Greetings from Belgium
Exactly what i needed as a learner to understand more about log hops - thanks. (needless to say, it may be a while before I pre book the hospital room with a view and commit to a Jurassic log like that! )
Hahah! Well I'm glad you enjoyed the vid! Start on smaller logs and work your way up to one like this once you start to really understand the technique.
Love your energy! Sub texts while doing slow mo on the attempts was perfect. Thanks Megs
Aaron Slagman Thank you! I’m glad you liked it!
That was a fun intro I feel like there is some truth to it LOL this was a really good technique video The slow Mo was excellent reference material to help someone get the courage to try this
Awesome! I'm really glad you liked it. Thanks for the positive feedback ☺️.
Wow we my friend! You are awesome on a bike! Lol love it! 💪💯
Terrell Spivey Thank you! I appreciate it!
@@megs_braap oh you're more than welcome! I trail ride quads a lil bit and have ridden with dirt bikes trail riding and to see you do something like that is amazing! Lol Keep up the great work!
Awesome, thanks for the motivation videos and you are the coolest keep it up 💪💪👍👍🔥🔥
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
1st video Ive seen. Like and subscribed. You're awesome!
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Great work!
Thanks!
Staying on the throttle for the second blip is the hardest part for me, it’s kinda a mental hurdle as your brain is telling you to let off...I’m trying to over come this by picturing the time I tucked my front tire under a large log and took a one way trip over the bars. Slowly but surely reinforcing it into my thick skull that it’s better to keep that front tire high! Great vid Megs, keep on braaping ✊️
Wow.. Its awesome trick. 🤩
Super great video thank you !!!!
You're very welcome! Thank YOU for watching :).
Nicely done ✅
Thanks James! It's definitely coming together!
very good progress oure doing good. so far all attempts were more of a splatter technique - your rear doesnt jump into the air as it should from preloaded chassis, but with ur commitment you will inevitably nail it
Thank you
If you can just Trust your body reflexes,.. And your throttle control its AMAZING what you can do. I'm 61 and the other day rode a GAS GAS. Still muscle memory kicked right in! I used to ride N.E.O.T.T.
Nice work!
Thanks!
Awesome demonstration and brakedown. I'm working on this also and learning to hold pressure seems to be the hardest part for me even on smaller logs. do you find starting on something not so intimidating better, or just go for the huge log and fail it till you nail it?
Thanks! I would definitely recommend trying this on a small obstacle first. It is massively more difficult on a log this size because the bottom is undercut. You can't ride up it like a camp. But if you practice this on a smaller log to get the timing down, it will help you get to this stage!
Try adding a bit of rear brake when compressing the suspension. It makes lifting the front wheel a lot easier an more consistent.
Fantastic!
In other vids, faces big cliffs and solid walls of rocks...no hesitation and pile drives up it. Huge log...psych and hesitation. Funny how things are in life. Great video!
It's not the size of the log that was intimidating. It was performing this new technique on a log that size that was getting to me. I was hesitating because I have a million steps going through my head that I'm trying to time perfectly. If I came up to it and didn't feel like I had my shit together, I'd hesitate and loop around for another go. If it were just "get over this log any way possible", I have smashed over it without hesitation hahaha.
Great video! I have been working on this as well and its pretty challenging. Also, looks like you switched from a TX to a XC-W? Liking the W?
You’re such an inspiration megs! Love your attitude!
Awesome, I need to practice a big log, I've been using old telephone poles
Such a great video... why do you think you’ve got more wheel spin than you want?? Curious what you will try changing... love seeing this break down 💪🏻🙌🏻
Love your tutorial videos, You are on hell of a rider. Have been working on more enduro riding methods for a few years now. Just started trying these a couple of days ago. I can get the punch method to work on 24 inch logs but the bigger ones I can't seem to time the second clutch pop right. Should I be dumping the clutch as my front wheel punches the log or after the front suspension compresses most of the way?
@Megs Braap
, I'm no expert at this, but when I compare your attempts to Quinn (in the suspended log video), you are throwing your hips forward like you are trying to unweight the rear and roll over the log. This seems to be letting the rear suspension unload after the rear tire hits the log. Quinn unweighted the bike vertically, then immediately moved his hips rearward and held pressure on the rear suspension while the rear tire hit the log. This kept the rear suspension compressed and the rear tire in contact with the log.
All right Meg's man up! And get some elbow pads!
that's aweslem! like a 25-30 inch log. keep it coming
Thanks! Will do!
In which gear you did the double blip?
Amazing pesentation. Thangyou verry mush🤩🤩🤩👍
Wow nerves of steel! I have a ktm 690 enduro r that i have supermotoed and i have a wr 450 f that i never ride because i always want to ride super moto..watching your vids is making me desperatly want to ride the 450..thanks!
Motivation....... there's cars on the highways... most are playing with phones and can't drive their thumb up their ass... I'm a trucker I see it all day. Play in the dirt and live longer.
Nice job. Practice make perfect.
Heck yeah! Thanks!
You’re awesome!!
Here in Vermont we have to search out class 4 roadsWhich aren’t anything like the beautiful trails that you have to ride! Great video!!
Awwe that's a bummer! You'll have to come out this way and check out some of our beautiful single track ☺️.
Your amazing 🤘🤘
Very much useful video for me
Awesome, I'm glad to hear it!
I do that on my HD Street Glide all the time😜 hehe
very awesome meg! also, this video is so helpful.... i’m going to practice on a log 1/3 the size of yours! 😂
I have just found your channel via Challenge with Graham Jarvis on the waterfall. Wonderful videos. Thanks
Quan Tran Awesome! Thanks so much for supporting my videos!
Good video !!!
Abraham Stark Thank you!
Well done! That looked like hard work, I think that I would just ride around it! ;-)
You're more courageous than I am. No logs around here, but there are some nice granite rocks that are begging for us to go over them.
Dam good vid thanks and brill tips to , I am going to try this out when I am out next time if I find a handy log and room on the other side to crash.🇬🇧👍
I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks for watching :D.
