One important thing about the morphs and cut down, It's very risky to try to kill a disguised creature with cut down, because you need to play it, and pay the ward, and then if they can turn it face up and it has p/t greater than 5, it makes the spell fizzle anyways. I think that's huge for the playability of these cards.
@@sethburkhead6720 nightdrinker moroii flips into a 4/2 for BB and there’s another card that flips into a land for 3 mana - neither of those cost 5 mana and neither would be destroyed by cut down once flipped
Note on Etrata: while noncreature permanents that were cloaked or manifested can’t be turned face up for their mana cost like creatures, effects like Etrata’s that manually turn the card face up still turn it face up just fine. The exile and cast clause only applies to instants or sorceries, which can’t be turned face up for obvious reasons (instead you just reveal it to prove “yep can’t turn it”). The distinction is important to note for specifically Auras; you don’t cast them so they’re basically stuck cloaked even with Etrata.
That's weird, because usually when you get an Aura to the battlefield by a method other than casting you basically just slip onto whatever creature you want.
I don't think that's true. It especially says "turn this creature face up", so I think you can play any other card type from exile as it's being exiled for not being a turned creature.
Just got home and was hoping to unwind with my favourite spoilers/MTG content creator. Right on time! These videos are my happy place. Thanks for all your positivity and insight Seth.
Surveil Lands are quite possibly the best thing I'm looking forward too. Just a powerful addition to a mana base that will add fuel graveyard non-sense and help with flooding. So cool.
Kaya's design reminds me a lot of Oko. Both of the planeswalkers have every loyalty ability working as an engine for itself, they both have two plus loyalty abilities that make bodies, and a minus that is 'symmetrical' removal
I love you Seth, you helped get me into MTG Arena and find the fun in the game as well as friends in the community. Thank you for helping boost my day with every post.
Kellan works with Oko as well. Make your clue token on turn two, and if you miss the fourth land, you can make a 3/3 elk to attack with from the clue token
1:00:00 Tolsimir Wolfblood creates a 2/2 and a 4/4 technically. Creates a 2/2 token, then immediately buffs it to be a 4/4 while Tolsimir is on the battlefield!
Long goodbye is good, but it's especially good against control decks playing creature lands. Having an uncounterable, instant speed way to kill a control deck's win condition is no joke.

Yeah, I don’t get why Seth is so confused about it, MOM did the same thing less than a year ago. I guess the fact they’re standard legal instead of from the commander set is a bit stranger?

I will say that Axebane Ferox is possibly playable for standard over ulvenwald oddity. The biggest problem oddity has is sheoldred. A 4/5 with death touch is just impossible for it to get through. With a ward effect and death touch itself, this thing will finally be able to punch through effectively.
Use kaya to get an attack trigger of a card tha usually has summoning sickness, by putting it into play, exiling it (and a potential blocker for each opponent), and making a clue (that was in play since your upkeep) into a copy of that card, and then attack. You can do a similar trick, but exile a card you put into your graveyard. Kaya seems awesome.
Isn't that how they used to do pre-release cards? i remember getting an emrakul during RoE and a wurmcoil engine promo during Scars of Mirrodin pre-release
I have a rules question: does Aurelia's Vindicator work like Fiend Hunter in that you can flip it for, say, 8 mana, sacrifice it before its flip effect resolves and just exile 4 creatures?
Fun thing about Trostani and the Knuckleblade comparison. The reason why Knucklebalde flopped so hard was because being a 3 mana 4/4 was terrible when the most played creature of that standard was a 4 mana 4/5 that drained the opponent and gained its controler life... xD
Tomik's affinity is, to me, a flavour win because he is in love with a planeswalker, so one mana discount. But also can be use in commander to pay the commander tax.
Hi Seth, I am sure someone has mentioned this already, but when and if you get a chance, please talk about any new list cards that are coming to Arena.
For the Surveil lands: I can’t wait to play them in my Griselbrand reanimater deck in modern. It’s a sweet turn 1 play if you don’t have any other. Crack a bloodstained mire to search it out, comes in to surveil then I can toss something I don’t like or most importantly a Griselbrand, Borborygmos Enraged or anything else on turn 1. That’s pretty sweet
Because i know you like Jank, Seth. I already found an infinite with Krenko, Born of Tin Street; Crime Novelist; Agatha's Soul Cauldron; Mycosynth Lattice; and a form of copying Krenko to get him on the battlefield and in the graveyard.
In Olden Times, everyone got the same pre-release promos and you weren’t allowed to play them in your sealed deck. It wasn’t until years later that they started doing multiple different promos that were considered part of your pool.
Just here to mention that the Warleadere's Call; Myr Retriever; Heartless summoning combo wouldn't work since the retrievers would not die to the heartless summoning's static thanks to the Warleader's stat increasing static ability.
I can't believe WOTC are bringing back the fun wording on oblivion ring effects (where the exile and return abilities are two different paragraphs). You can sac vindicator in response and they get nothing back and it's amazing
I am actually so stoked for the Clue MTG Edition. Clue is a game that my younger siblings and I enjoy playing. It was one of the first games that introduced them to strategy. Having this fused with MTG (the love of my life) is incredible and I can't wait to crack this open and get a bunch of games in with them. My one concern will be the balance of the jumpstart-esque packs within the game. I will eventually open up all the packs (to play the game as intended) and then work towards rebalancing and fudging with the basic design of the decks to see what else we can do with the game. Excited to say the least!
Ok so another thing about Aurelia’s vindicator is that it in. A weird way can be a banisher priest mixed with eternal witness. If you exile one of their creatures along with one of your creature cards from the graveyard. If it dies. Both cards go back to their owners hand.
Warleader's call is going in any of my go wide decks in edh. Eowyn and Edgar and Isshin are gonna love all those tokens coming down and doing damage. Judith is gonna go into my Saruman the Whitehand deck since that deck is a wizard/shaman spellslinger deck.
I'm slotting it in asap for Eowyn. I had to cut impact tremors for almost the same reasons mentioned in the video, but it's a great include as an anthem, especially since I have a card I was considering cutting anyways (Icon of Ancestry, since I have only activated it once in 15+ games) that is a 3 mana anthem.
@@robomelon314 Was it just for more card advantage on an Anthem? I tend to not need much card advantage in my build since I run Mass Appeal and Minas Tirith Garrison.
3:30 This is wrong. You can always turn a card face-up if it's a permanent. The creature restriction is only for doing it through the cloak mechanic. So, essentially: -If you cloak a creature, you can pay either the creature's mana cost or 2UB -If you cloak a noncreature permanent, you can only pay 2UB to turn them face-up. Planeswalkers will immediately die for having no loyalty counters. -If you cloak an instant or sorcery, you can pay 2UB to cast them.
Battles also die and won’t flip if they’re Sieges. Since it never had any defense counters in the first place, it doesn’t see those counters being removed, which is what causes it to transform. If there’s ever an anti-morph hate card (reading something like “your opponents can’t turn permanents they control face-up”) this will also get around that.
The new Massacre Girl in a Toxrill deck is terrifying. Remember, she triggers whenever an opposing creature dies due to having no toughness. *It doesn’t need to be her ability that causes this.*
Don't know if someone pointed it out but, the fixed prerelease promo not playable in limited was the standard back in the days. That said, I don't know what made them go back to it
A Izzet Haughty Djinn clone, that requires half the investment to deal the same amount of damage but the slight drawback that you toughness is also affec theted as well? This is quite the improvement in that regard
About Teysa, the nice part is also taking advantage of drain effects or similar without needing her to directly attack, also the turn she comes down. But I do see the downsides with respect to preacher, I just think they may serve different purposes
Are you sure the solve mechanic works as your describing. The card says if unsolved then solve at your next end step suggesting solve triggers regardless of condition but instantly if the condition is met?
Kaya's planeswalker and Trostani would work nicely in my Enigma Jewel deck. Giving Bloodletter of Aclazotz doublestrike plus one other thing plus making two tokens a copy of Trostani is ggs
victimize and show and tell in timeless is exciting. footfalls is maybe ok in historic? with bloodbraid and explorer, but explorer combo is just legal in that format so
I think you missed the mark on how good the surveil lands are in eternal formats, Seth. Think of it, now you can fetch, bauble, and surveil twice on the same turn with DRC out. You can trigger delirium basically on turn one.
Krenko,Baron of Tin Street + Skirk Prospector + Mycosynth Lattice = Infinite loop of making and saccing artifact goblins, wins with anything that cares about Artifacts/Creatures ETBing, or death triggers.
15:37 it isn’t weird, this was done in March of the Machine. At prerelease it had a positive effect, hearing everyone exclaim what they got was pretty nice, as was trying to set up trades after games. Slimefoot and Squee was popular, so I traded mine away for a Katilda and Lier which ended up being my Bant Humans EDH deck. Strange that there are only two instead of three options though, if there is a crowd favorite losing a coin flip isn’t as good feeling instead of a 2/3 chance.
Actually Trostani will be more of a component for a Cauldron Combo Deck rather than being a central piece in the Deck (kind of similar to how Millennium Calendar was one of those until people realized the Synergy with All will be One and went that route since it was faster)
2 THINGS . . . 1 this is not the first time that there is a auto include in the Prerelease box that you can't use. They did this by Cappena. 2 Case is Like Class, it's an enchantment that you need to pay a price to make it better just instead of mana you need to jump thru a hoop.
I could see modern reanimator decks maybe playing a 1-of surveil dual. If you dont have a turn 1 play, the free roll to try and mill your archon and persist on turn 2 might be worth it.
I run a Simic (splash black) enchantress deck in historic, and I'll likely be running Hedge Maze (over my current Sultai Triome) simply due to having forest subtype for Utopia Sprawls, and the potential draw it offers being 'free'. Occasionally being able to cycle the Triome is useful, but I'm never usually giddy to have it in my hand. That said, now that I think about it I typically have enough basic forests in the deck and hand to not have to worry about the nonbasics, so maybe in my next deck tinkering I'll just swap it out for a fast blue/green land instead.
generally morbid opportunist is better than homicide investigator imo, but in combination with cards that care about artifacts or specifically clues, like Alquist Proft, it could be useful
So… I thought this set was going to focus on the “regular citizen Ravnican” or something like that. But… the legends are almost all characters we’ve seen before - sometimes multiple times.
There's a pretty strong goblin artifact package in standard already in goblin smelter and gleeful demolition; previously they were just used as artifact support that happened to make goblins, but they're stronger with krenko.
Wish cases had a more neutral name, so that they could be used in sets like D&D and Zendikar for quests without using a different name and allowing for effects to count both as the same mechanic.
44:14, a spot I enjoy analyze the pollen in is my henzie Torre toolbox. I can take out a land and run it in here. Early game it guarantees a land drop and late game exiles some blitzed cards to get a banger like an Etali or archon of cruelty. Quite a fun card that should be fairly cheap to snag compared to worldly tutor
Agatha's Soul Cauldron Undercity Scrounger Krenko Baron of Tin Street And maybe Arlinn, the Pack's Hope All Goblins enter with +1/+1 counters Gain Soul Cauldron abilities Now they tap for Treasure Trigger Krenko
50:05 Took me a bit to realize, but Homicide Investigator actually has a pretty notable upside over Morbid Opportunist (aside from costing 1 less, having 1 more power, and helping artifact synergies). It counts ITSELF when it dies. That's HUGE. Maybe not huge ENOUGH to make up for the other downsides, but definitely significant.
Midnight Reaper is still just such a huge upgrade over Homicide Investigator, though. There's one place where this card is good, and that's artifact aristocrats that doesn't also do creature tokens, like perhaps with a Food deck or a Dimir Tezzeret deck. It's a bulk rare unless the Orzhov limited cards turn out to be really good.
Kaya is probably going to be a house. I think we're looking too big and inviting inconsistency looking to try to use the ability on massive stuff. Just use it to make flying hasty Regal Bunnicorns or Devouring Sugarmaws in BW Tokens.

Crashing Footfalls in Arena?! Oh Yikes! The Discover Combo is getting another win con
Warleader's Call turns Song of Totentanz into possibly the most busted Blaze ever.
2 THINGS . . . 1 this is not the first time that there is a auto include in the Prerelease box that you can't use. They did this by Cappena. 2 Case is Like Class, it's an enchantment that you need to pay a price to make it better just instead of mana you need to jump thru a hoop.
Heartless Summons/Myr Retriever doesn't work with Warleader's Call...
I could see modern reanimator decks maybe playing a 1-of surveil dual. If you dont have a turn 1 play, the free roll to try and mill your archon and persist on turn 2 might be worth it.
Pantlaza as a commander and in battlefield, Trostani Three Whispers in battlefield, cast zacmal, discover 9, untap all lands, ggs.
Tomik says "ATTACKS WITH CREATURES?" What else are you going to attack with? Words? 🤣
Ok in legacy you can turn 2 cycle magma opus, cast analyze pollen tutor Emrakul, turn 3 land, show and tell Emrakul. Is that good enough for legacy?
Okay, i wasn't expecting Seth to go "There's gonna be uh muhdeh" 😂😂😂
So… I thought this set was going to focus on the “regular citizen Ravnican” or something like that. But… the legends are almost all characters we’ve seen before - sometimes multiple times.
There's a pretty strong goblin artifact package in standard already in goblin smelter and gleeful demolition; previously they were just used as artifact support that happened to make goblins, but they're stronger with krenko.
This set is looking crazy powerful. I mean, mana leak and lightning helix in the same standard set? Crazy!
They did say the answers would start being juiced with Play Boosters. For this set at least, that's very true.
I don't think people are prepared for how strong a mid range boros aggro deck will be.
I’m looking forward to it, and have been since I saw Lightning Helix was coming back
Krenko, Skirk Prospector and Sword of the Meek should be an Infinite Loop, although it is pretty much only wheelspinning
Was the Argus Kos/Agrus Kros/Argus Kros bit intentional?
Gotta mention that Argus curves into Nahiri's Resolve
Wish cases had a more neutral name, so that they could be used in sets like D&D and Zendikar for quests without using a different name and allowing for effects to count both as the same mechanic.
44:14, a spot I enjoy analyze the pollen in is my henzie Torre toolbox. I can take out a land and run it in here. Early game it guarantees a land drop and late game exiles some blitzed cards to get a banger like an Etali or archon of cruelty. Quite a fun card that should be fairly cheap to snag compared to worldly tutor
Those new duals are basically busted in every one of my EDH decks. I need them.
Agatha's Soul Cauldron
Undercity Scrounger
Krenko Baron of Tin Street
And maybe Arlinn, the Pack's Hope
All Goblins enter with +1/+1 counters
Gain Soul Cauldron abilities
Now they tap for Treasure
Trigger Krenko
They did the same thing with March of the machine pre release promos.
Aurelia's Vindicator is like the first alt art I really like!
1:00:13 the first voja is both the 2/2 and the 4/4 because of the static
29:14 I have a kinda casual golgari graveyard deck, so the golgari surveil land seems pretty nice! Hope it doesn't end up too expensive :)
Kaya is probably going to be a house. I think we're looking too big and inviting inconsistency looking to try to use the ability on massive stuff. Just use it to make flying hasty Regal Bunnicorns or Devouring Sugarmaws in BW Tokens.
