Didn't Taylormade get the speed slot from Adams in the first place. Another example is Callaway "Apex", from when they acquired Ben Hogan .

The longest 3-wood I've ever hit, by a mile, is the Adams XTD Super Fairway (the silver head one with a Fubuki shaft). And Adams had the Velocity Slot before TaylorMade bought them and called it a Speed Pocket.

Adidas World Cups are the soft ground, screw in stud version. Copa Mundial (World Cup in Spanish) are the firm ground version with moulded studs. Those two boots along with the Kaiser FG and Kaiser SG (same boots made of slightly cheaper calfskin instead of kangaroo leather) are pretty much the only Adidas products still made in Germany. They’re also made on a slightly bigger last than other Adidas shoes so if you are ordering a pair, size down a half size. They’re incredibly well made and last ages as well as being comfortable out of the box so actually very good value for money really.

Adams came out with Velocity slot about 10 years ago; AdamsGolf F11 Fairway wood. It's rumoured Taylormade bought Adams in 2012 because Adams may have been preparing to sue Taylormade for patent infringement when they started coming out with Speed Pocket.

Good to hear Adams are coming back! They're still owned by TaylorMade by the way so they're cross-sharing technology. Adams looks like it'll be TMs cheaper/budget brand going forward so understandable they don't want the names of the premium tech associated with their budget brand, good idea to rename them. Because they're still owned by TM there wouldn't be a problem with Adams using the tech name, I think it's just for marketing purposes
The Nike golf balls are still being sold by the way - they're called RZN now.

WRT to You Tube, I think there are some interesting contrasts..
The UK versions tend to me more relatable to a golfing hard core, those of us who play in all weathers and share the love of the sport and the humour and brutal honesty of clubs and swings.
The USA versions tend to me more entertainment based around characters and a particular format although often with spin off channels.
I think the good thing is that there is room for all and I enjoy them all at different times. The instructional ones on courses and style of play I enjoy or good for picking up tips and seeing relatable content. Then again it is nice to enjoy the more light hearted entertainment with more sun and characters even if you have to sometimes whince at the shameless merchandising and corporate feel at times.
What is actually golfing gold is the collaborations between all of the golfing fraternity and seeing the clash of styles and approaches as that is great to see plus I think unlike many other sports everyone seems really supportive and appreciative of all the content with no one down playing each other. That is what makes our sports so exceptional we all want to see everyone playing well and being successful.

Had a couple of Adams woods including a 9 fairway wood. Bought it before hybrids came onto the market. My first decent driver was a Snake Eyes which was really decent at the time. Think they used parts from the local Titleist factory at the time as Acushnet owned Titleist, Cobra and Lynx back then and the Titleist and Snake Eyes factories were only a couple of hundred yards apart in St Ives, plus Snake Eyes and Cobra woods bore a lot of similarities back then, except price?

What's funny is that you were the first to play Dunas but Iona Stephen played there and released her video of Dunas a week before yours!! Do you think Dunas tells everyone they are the first ever to play there?? Regarding golf balls: I won't buy ProV1's or Chrome Softs when there are DTC balls that suit my game as well or better for sometimes half the cost. My current ball of choice is their Seed SD-05... 3 piece construction, urethane cover with low compression for a great, soft feel. Perfect for my game and average swing speed (85mph).

The difference between LIV and the PGA tours no cuts is for the tour it’s SOME events with no cuts. With LIV it’s EVERY event with no cut. With that being said I think give LIV their OWGR points. But give them less points for any win. They play less days, they don’t have a cut in any event, and they have less then half the field size then the tour.

Enjoy the podcasts chaps and congratulations on the 10k achievement 👏 As to this OWGR thing and the LIV situation: you really would be doing yourselves a favour if you did a little research. Read up on who makes up the OWGR board and then take a few minutes to read the qualification process for obtaining points. The rules were laid out well in advance of LIV’s arrival and provide clarity as to why their tour receives no recognition. Love it or loathe it, them’s the rules…… Greg Norman, the LIV board and every player that joined that tour has no reason to criticise anyone but themselves as to why this situation has arisen.
Should the situation change in the future? Probably, but again, look at the qualification criteria for a tour to have its players recognised…..
Separately, I agree with the concerns for the future of the DPWT…. Worrying times but allegedly, Keith Pelley is holding meetings over the next month or two to address this. I hope he has a plan as not only is that tour at risk, but also the future of the Ryder Cup.

When the top tours actually run the 'official' world golf rankings then they can skew the system to suit themselves. LIV is in its very early infancy and the PGA has adopted quite a few of LIV's ideas. Moynihan has hid behind Rory instead of being out in front of this.

There are competitions without cuts that gain OWGR. The only issue I have with LIV is you don't want those players who sign up, outside the 48 playing a competition being unable to compete and gain points or get shafted on earnings. They need the ability to get back into the 48 through some form of feeder tour. I also think LIV has an opportunity to support the womens game.

  • @petesarosy594

I think the world ranking points comes down to time as well. There's the new Tiger/Rory TGL. Since they're some of the best players in the league should they be getting world ranking points for that. Just because you have the best players in the league does not necessarily constitute having "clout". It needs to be around for some time and signing significant players going forward in order to be recognized as being an alternative league. The LIV guys moved over knowing this was a potential stumbling block and moved because of the money. If it's a successful league then I agree that they should be recognized. What's to stop anyone from making a new league if that's the case? 10 pga players start a new league where they play on a random course every few weeks - should they get world ranking points. To me there should be something for legacy and sustainability.

If the DP World Tour is partnered with the PGA, why couldn't they just rebrand as the PGA World Tour and make some of those DP events more marquis? Combine sponsors and give them premium coverage, split the field between the PGA and DP players and give us all more and better access to the DP players. I think that if the PGA wanted to, they could prop up the DP World Tour and really make it something special.

I think from a technical point of view any 'improvements' will really be exceptionally small marginal gains within the current limitations of materials and regulations. Buyer beware as the spiel is largely a marketing gimmick now to encourage the churn of mugs thinking their golf will be improved year on year with new kit. Nothing wrong with replacing old or worn out kit but that is normally not needed more than every 5 to 10 years except for maybe wedges and putters.
I wonder if a future series on the main channel could be about taking John Q Public, say a mid-handicapper with all the gear and no idea and fitting them out with irons and woods from say 10 years ago. Then spending time coaching them and fixing their fault and grip issues and showing that actually improving your game is mental and process and not solved just be equipment !

Every Time you guys discuss LIV and world ranking points you always forget to mention there's no qualification for LIV events. It's purely invitational. That with the cut is a barometer of how competitive the field is. Like there was uproar with the European super League in football, there's no qualification and relegation. It's a closed shop!

  • @Dreyno
    @Dreyno Рік тому

Taylor Gooch and all the rest knew there wasn’t points on offer before they signed and signed up anyway. So I find it hard to care.
There’s also no guarantee these guys will keep being competitive in majors the longer they spend on the beer and dosh tour.
And I don’t think it would be more acceptable to most fans if it was American cash behind it. Somebody trying to “buy” a sport is rarely appreciated.

  • @davidfowles1252
    @davidfowles1252 Рік тому +1

With players leaving tours I grew up in an era where people played on the European tour and did well and played occsionally in the US by exception or for the majors. We then got used to the better players then following the money and joining the PGA tour and trying to keep their European card until that became a nuisance that did not prevent them playing when they liked outside of the US.
I am no fan of LIV as I do not see it benefitting golf, developing players and having a wider impact on people taking up the game, it has not had the impact yet of say the injection of interest in cricket that T20 and the IPL had. However I think it is very hypocritical of the PGA tour bleating on about players leaving to join LIV and a lack of loyalty etc when they have been pillaging the other tours of their best talent for decades. No problem with the main tours then excluding LIV players as they can set their own rules but other tours, invitationals, major etc are free to make their own decisions as well based on their desire for the best product on offer.
I think the crunch will come on whether any changes come for the World Golf Rankings that reflect the fair distribution of points on all tours based on not their value in £'s but the strength of their competition, cuts, qualification schools and open access on merit.

  • @peterbrett7000

I think you answered all your answers and arguments at the end of the podcast, it all comes down to money. It doesn't matter if you're a golf pro, the guy on the building site or a content creator on UA-cam, everyone wants to earn the highest salary or prize money possible, that is human nature and looking after your family for the future. I am in agreement with the majority regarding where the money is coming from for LIV, but I think the PGA has enough skeletons (some are still alive) in their closet if you were to start investigating. I have started to watch LIV and the 4 majors again after many years away or make a conscious effort to watch or catch up on the highlights, something I can't say I'm going to consider for the DP world tour or the PGA. In the past I was a 4-day TV view of the PGA, but due to pay to watch and not all the players traveling to distant countries, I have lost interest. I believe Golf is the winner with all the changes and attract younger people and ideas to the future of the game we all try to master, which has already started with clothing and the stigma attached to gold courses from old. By the way, love your show and videos and "Golf is Hard"

The DP Tour is in serious trouble. Players have come out as not happy, the bias towards the PGA Tour is just turning it into a feeder tour.
The new "OWGR" structure has also Shafter the DP Tour players.
Players who play on the DP all year have bugger all chance of winning at the end of the season due to the players who only qualify due to WGC and Majors inflated points without really ever playing a standalone DP event benefiting.
The OWGR is really, an Official PGA Tour Ranking, which in turn, is a joke that they get OWGR points for no cut events, match play events, pairs events like the Zurich, what a joke, a player can play like crap, get carried by his partner yet gets OWGR points for it. The PGA Fanboys complain about LIV and that they shouldn't get points, but the above mentioned proves the hypocrisy.
