I mean yeah, after looking at the Bluetooth codec war I think AAC is kind of OK on Android even if it's horrible optimized.

Fp needs to add better water resistance like the repairable xcover 6 pro

I hope either the sound quality gets better (also on XL), or more manufactures will start doing replaceable batteries. Hell, I might even switch back to headphones jack. After using Airpods Pro for past few years, the low battery sound is giving me anger issues. And tbh, I had RMA ones I had before, not even a year in, and now again, not even 6 months in. Not sure if just my luck, or quality is going to shit (and yes, after 6 months, battery is holding battery as much as puppy can hold pee).

I think the EU rules give you a pretty good hint as to the technical justification/excuse for non-replaceable batteries, and it's the same explanation we got for phones: Water resistance.
There's a reason manufacturers are going to be able to pick between user-replaceable batteries *or* IPX7 water resistance and a battery that holds 80% of its charge for 1,000 cycles.
If you charge your buds every day, 1,000 charge cycles is about 2.7 years. So my prediction is that 90% of companies will go with the IPX7 rating and keep the sealed-in design. They'll get the same 2-3 year lifespan, and they'll be able to advertise a higher water resistance (which they'll never have to own up to, because you know that water damage won't be covered under warranty).
It remains to be seen if the sound can be fixed. I know nothing about the acoustics of earbuds, but it's possible that the non-sealed design means that you're not going to get the same kind of sound you get from sealed earbuds.

so i am confused. you do recharge these batteries often ? at some point you can't recharge them and then you can replace them ? so these are little rechargeable watch batteries ? never heard of such a thing. what do they cost ? I currently buy ONN earbuds from Walmart for 10 dollars a piece. i love them, but lucky if they last a year or two tho. Run time gets unusably low. hate filling landfills with anything, but not see a viable/economical alternative at this point.

All earphone batteries degrade after 1 to 3 years. These earphones let you replace the batteries. They cost 149 Euros and are only sold in Europe.

They all have pretty much recharged watch batteries. I do once a year on my Sony wf-1000xm4. Pain in the butt though

I think that I heard from somewhere that this company was aiming for more of a flat sounding critical listening type sound signature with these earbuds. Is this what the graphs are showing us? Yes, I understand that flat is not the sound signature for the average everyday consumer.

It's not flat, it's missing highs

I don't think it's a good idea to put replaceable batteries! It will be a loss on two sides, the first is missing out on developments and keeping up with competition between other products, the second is a loss for companies by missing out on increasing sales, the winner is definitely the battery companies 😁

the winner is the customer because they will be able to fix simple faults by themselves without being locked out by the manufacturer. (and without any special tools) right to repair - it's how it should have been in the first place.

We've been at a performance flatline in many aspects for a while now, I'd rather get a device that lasts years with easy repairs now, instead of being conned year over year into buying new junk because of dead batteries, changing earbuds every 5~10 years instead of every 1 or 2 sounds far saner
