He's probably gone most of his life without being held accountable for his bad behavior. Like, with his mom saying he was a loving person... she probably enabled his bad behaviors, since childhood, by making excuses for him & refusing to see or acknowledge that he was awful. So, to him, all his misdeeds were warranted somehow.

There's one decision I don't think I'll ever regret though, and that's to show myself compassion and patience at every turn in my life. From the moment I wake up, positive, GENUINE self-talk. All the chances others did not deserve that I freely gave away, shouldn't outnumber the chances I freely give to myself. I picture myself as a very small child and pretend I'm communicating with her, with patience and compassion 100% of the time. It's the easiest gift with the biggest benefits ever. It’s one of the hardest things I had to do because I do love him with my whole heart, and always will, but there were so many days where I would wake up and wonder if today was the day that I died, or if he was going to hurt me that day. Please, if you are in a physically, or even emotionally abusive relationship, seek out resources and reach out to your supports to make a plan to get out. I don’t think I would be here today if I had not left.

I feel exactly the same way… now that I am a mother myself to a 10 year old boy i understand why my dad was so overprotective of me and strict when I started to get a little older and became a teenager. He didn’t want something like one of these cases to happen to me. I remember resenting him and getting so mad at him for not letting me go to city walk at night with my friends which Was a place a lot of adults hung out and drank at the bars it’s at universal and it’s free to walk around and they have movie theater and bars and a teenage club just for teens but right next to it we’re two adult bars. And he wouldn’t let me go but I ultimately wound up sneaking out every Friday night to go there and I would get away with it because he worked at night until about 5 AM until one day I got caught I came home around 3 and found him and my grandmother waiting in my room for me… 😅 but i did soooo many dumb things from the time I was 16 til just before I got pregnant with my son at 22 years old. Times I am lucky to be alive walking home drunk alone from this city walk one night which it was 5 mile walk to my house and when I was 18 years old I was at a party and was drugged and raped by someone who I trusted and thought was my friend 😢 the next morning when I woke up naked at his house he refused to give me my phone or my clothes back and was trying to block me from leaving his room and “explain” to me so I was able to push past him and ran out of his house yelling for help and his neighbors called the police… when they got there they shamed me they didn’t even bring one woman officer with them which is what should have been done for me but they shamed me and made me feel like i was the wrong one 😞 that I was trying to ruin the guys life because I regretted having sex with him when I never consented but they ultimately made me feel shitty enough I didn’t press charges and now that I’m older I wished I did anyway that was just a couple of instances where I wound up lucky with my life. And now that I am a parent myself I completely understand and am scared for the day when my son becomes a teenager and I have to do the same thing my dad did I just want him to feel comfortable enough to come and talk to me and to call me if he needs help that is something I’ve always made sure of. I 100% know that she would've been going in & out of consciousness through it all. My water broke at 5 months & I had to give birth to a stillborn baby girl. There wasn't time to get an epidural so I had to have her naturally, which I've done before full term. I expected it to not be as painful due to her being so tiny, but the pain was so much worse than I ever remembered. After I gave birth the pain not only didn't stop, but get worse. The doctor saw that I was hemorrhaging & bleeding to death because the placenta was stuck. The doctor told me & my husband that this is going to be a horrible experience for both of us & is going to be extremely painful for me because he had to put his entire hand & arm in there & manually rip out the placenta so I don't bleed to death. There are no words to describe the pain I felt that day. My husband said it looked like a murder scene or something from a horror movie because the doctor was quite literally ripping out my insides. I was going in & out of consciousness the entire time & my body was in shock. What this woman went through was worse so I'm sure she was in & out of consciousness as well as in shock.

Otherwise he would have given the address first thing. He ignored every time the operator asked for it and just tried to get his story out. He was intentionally delaying getting her help and putting on a show. I don't know how he EVER thought he could pass this off as a tragic accident or her asking for it. Oh Annie, I can’t believe you did this one! I kept seeing this interrogation come up on my feed and I couldn’t bring myself to watch it. Well, my curiosity got the best of me one day and it made me sick! It took me months to get it out of my head. It will randomly pop up in my head and I have to fight to get it out. This was a sick one. That poor girl 😔 I give you credit for being able to handle this story.

I heard about this case and listened to the unedited interview. There were moments I had to pause and take a break and moments when I was on the verge of passing out from his descriptions of what he did to Maria. One of the _worst_ cases I've studied in true crime. Makes me sick to imagine what that poor woman went through, and you get an idea with what Fidel tells, but there's no way to know the pain and horror she went through as it happened. Truly heartbreaking.

I couldn’t imagine Maria’s last moments, even with the alcohol, I couldn’t fathom that pain. I hope she’s resting peacefully. I remember this case well, due to Mr. Black covering it on his channel. I have the utmost respect for him and his channel as I know you do as well Annie.
This guy is the personification of evil. Purely evil. Worst case I've ever encountered. I feel horrible for Maria. This was no easy death. She died hard. I cannot imagine the pain and fear she went through. He used her like she was an object and not a human being. Sickening. How is it not one of these neighbors who heard hours of destruction and screaming, didn't have the wherewithal to call police??? I just can't! As to your question, I don't believe she ever said her ex's name. I think her plan to go to Peru set him off. It was in his eyes a rejection. A personal affront. He couldn't control her. Pure EVIL. Thank you Annie for covering this case. I know it wasn't easy. Much respect my girl.

Thank you for your last bit of comments! This is the main reason why I dumped my fiancé and no longer speak to him. Eventually, I feared that he could KILL ME. I even told him a few times that I "feared that with his angry tendencies and reactiveness, he could kill me one day" to which he would respond I could never do that. I would become scared that my ex-fiancé would snap once he started drinking. I bet that's what Fidel may have thought before he snapped. I am fortunate I got away from that toxic and scary situation and I hope other men and women who are in the same situation can make their way out and leave!

He is an animal! I cried a lot listening to this because of how scared she may have been through all of that. He is a narcissistic monster making himself the victim blaming her as if ANYONE would want that! My ex was exactly like him always punching walls breaking anything that meant something to me just to see my reaction and then hitting me there towards the end. blamed me for it all and slandered my name to this day after he moved with his family. I was lucky enough to escape one morning and still to this day thank God I did. The fact that he was worried more about how much time he was going to be put away for shows the narcissist that he is instead of feeling remorse for what he did or for her. I hope he drops the soap where he is. He is a monster!
