1 Gareth Edwards 2 Richie McCaw 3 Dan Carter 4 Serge Blanco 5 Jonah Lomu 6 Jonathan Davis 7 John Eales 8 Gerber 9 Shane Williams 10 O'Driscoll I will add 10 most overrated in no particular order: Campese Wilkinson Johnson Guscott Cullen Batty Du Randt Wood Barry John and the entire England team who lost to Fiji this morning.
Best player ever is very subjective. There have been so many great players. Most complete player ever would have to be Dan Carter. He could run, pass, tackle and kick.He was master tactician. He destroyed the 2005 Lions team.He is two time world champion. Best forward ever in my opinion is Zinzan Brooke. Zinny was a forward but he could kick drop goals, run, pass and tackle. Zinny was playmaker who could out think the opposition. He was always step ahead of everyone.
Here are some others for consideration: Barry John, Mike Gibson, Don Clarke, Frik Du Preez, Dawie de Villiers, Bob Scott, George Nepia, Serge Blanco, John Eales, Colin Meades, Gareth Edwards.
Look at that try edwards scored against Scotland, no other player could have scored that genius, a few other players overlooked , Colin meads, JPR, Barrie John, Tim Horan, John eales, Danie Gerber, Naas Botha, Mike Gibson, joost van der westhuizen, John kirwin, Christian Cullen, phillipe sella
I would like to get me some of what you are on......of all time suggests since the Ellis chap picked up the soccer ball! Some names prior to the late 1960's when your oldest player Edwards started: Danie Craven - played several positions in the forwards as well as the backline, famous as a scrumhalf, and was instrumental in handing the All Bkacks their first home series defeat in 1937. Hansie Brewis never played in a losing test and as flyhalf orchestrated the only series whitewash handed to the AB's in 1949. Hennie "windhond" Muller the man who revolusionised, and created the way eigthmen should play, who showcased exceptional speed and was also a member of the '49 team that walloped the AB's as well as Grand Slam win in the UK, France and Ireland in '51/'52. This tour included a 44 nil drubbing against Scotland when tries scored amounted to 3 points! Frik du Preez unparralelled as lock and flanker, in his playing days against players like Willi John Mcbride, Colin Meades (all 3 could probably feature in a group naming the best locks af all time)etc. Two Lions series wins, in '62 and '68 a loss to the AB's in '65 and win against AB's in 1970 and whitewash against Australia in 1971 and for good meausure was a great goalkicker! All members of the Hall of fame, which must prove their graetness as, like on your list, the selection of Springboks are lacking, eventhough they were never beaten in a series from the 1890's up to 1955, dominated results against ALL opposition(especially the six nations sides) including the All Blacks up to the 1995 RWC final, won the RWC at their first attempt, and is the most succesful team in RWC history to date!
We keep getting these ‘greatest of all’ lists, often from ex-players. Isn’t it strange that all of those chosen are within the memory of those doing the choosing. No Jack Kyle, no Cliff Morgan. No Colin Meads,no John Kirwan. The fact is you can’t choose ‘the greatest ever’ when different eras are involved.
no? add up his achievements and its pretty easy to see . 148 tests , over 100 wins as captain 2 world cups and many many other trophies , world player of the year 3 times , 1st captain to go a complete year win streak , 1st equal win streak. just to list his bigger wins . there is tons more at domestic level and probably more at international level . no other player even comes close to that
Gareth Edwards was in the lions team that won a series in New Zealand and South Africa. That lions team was all time great team. Not too many teams win a series in NewZealand and South Africa. 1971/1974 Lions Mastermind and chief playmaker was Gareth Edwards. What has Dupont done????
Once again the bias against the BOKS. Four time world champs yet they do not have quality players to make your top 10. Shame on you. The northern countries only manage to win one world cup amongst themselves. The BOKS fifty percent of the world cups tournaments they played in yet none of the players are in the top ten.
BS list. DC should be no1. Johnson even here is a mockery. No Eales. No du Randt. No Etzebeth. No vd Westhuizen. No Brooke. No Horan. No Habana. No Wood. No New Zealander would even have Lomu in the top 10.
Nope. Just nope. Some of these guys deserve to be near, and even on, this list, but there are others who don't even get a mention? McCaw, the greatest ever? Seriously?! Lomu at #2? Come on, friend. If youwant to teach us to suck eggs, you should at least know something about eggs. 🥚 The list needs Fitzpatrick, Sella, Gerber, Matfield. I can live with Carter, Blanco and Edwards being here, but where's my guys Leonard and Du Randt? Ever heard of Christian Cullen? Engage your brain, please, and try again.
In my lifetime as a New Zealander, Don Clarke and Colin Meads are the standouts. Frik du Preez, Dawie de Villiers and Barry John were the ones who gave us problems - obviously greats. Dan Carter is not in their class to my mind.

I will add 10 most overrated in no particular order:
Campese
Wilkinson
Johnson
Guscott

Barry John
and the entire England team who lost to Fiji this morning.
Danie Gerber and Naas Botha should make it
Barry John should definitely be in. And Sella.

No John Eales and I'm supposed to take this seriously? At least you didn't put one-hit wonder Jonah Lomu at number 1.
JONAH LOMU 🔛🔝
Dan Carter is the most complete and greatest player of all time
u wish Jonah lomu will always be the goat
Read through a list recently of the top 100 - Martin Johnston
was no 8 - yet Brian O’ Driscoll, was 67???
W T actual F ?
The best running fullback of all time is Christian Cullen.
He scored 46 tries in test matches.
Quality of his tries nobody comes even close.
Not one South African, really…
Yes really, that’s because the list is personal choice, I don’t agree with all the choices but I would not bleat about it.
It is very subjective.
There have been many great players from South Africa.
My personal favourite is Danie Gerber.
Naas botha@@markrutherford6010
Great list but Gareth is no.1

What about Colin Meads and Joost van der westhuizen?
Johnny Wilkinson is lucky if he's top 200, Jonah is not a top 20 AB. I'm from NZ as well
John Eales left the chat:
McCaw at number 1 is insulting. Great player, but not even close to being the best rugby player of all time.
Tf?

Debatable yes, Not insulting at all, the man was immense
Greatest captain yes no doubt
But not Even the best flanker of all Time (for me)
Im sorry but Gareth Edwards is the most complete player, my No 1
Started well ended poorly and no a mention of Joost Van Der Westhuizen
Lomu is number 1
Brub really forgot John Eales
He is one of the greats for sure.
Maybe an umpopular opinion, but I think Antoine Dupont is now a better scrum half than Gareth Edwards
@@markrutherford6010 Dupont is the most complete and greatest player of all time
@@alphamale9715 How many World Cup victories has he had???
Did he win a test series in NZ and South Africa???
@@markrutherford6010 wikipedia is your friend😏
@@markrutherford6010 Gareth Edwards is a great,
but it is also another era, which has nothing to do with the current level.
No Joost Van Der Westhuizen? Your top 10 list is flawed!
Whoops. Thought he was there. He should be in the top 5.

Hugo Porta está entre los 10 mejores de la historia!!!!y no está en tu video
Where is South Africa we have way beter players than England
