back in june, my grandfather showed me this video. it was the first song i've ever heard yo yo ma perform, and i instantly fell in love with it. here i am, two months later, this song is in my top 10 songs of all time on spotify. i listen to this song everyday on repeat. my grandfather passed away 3 days ago. i'm going to get a swan tattoo to honor him. i will love you forever, papi

Also, I have developed the very crass habit of whistling along with the music.
How funny that you should write this! I have played this video over and over...I love watching his hands!! AND, after I practice a piece, my husband will be whistling that piece for several hours after :-)
My dad was a cellist. He passed a month ago. I don't know why but this piece reminds me of the way his voice sounded whenever I felt sad and he tried to console me. It reminds me of the warmth in his hands when he tried to dry my tears. Now, he's not here to do that. But this piece is. I'm inheriting his cello. I don't know how to play it, but I'm willing to learn just to learn this piece and this piece alone.
this sounds like when you complete life kinda when you are older sitting in the front porch of your old wooden home with your lover, by this time you are atleast 60-70 years old and you two are watching the view as the world starts to end sitting there holding hands, loving each other, you look at her she looks at you one final kiss goodby “i love you” she says, you start crying because now you realise that you will never be able to see her again or hug her or hold hands with her or kiss her, you say “i love you too” as you die in each other’s arms.
every recording of yo-yo ma ive watched leaves me struggling to look away from the screen, he plays with such an amount of confidence, emotion, and thought into just about every cadence of his music that just makes it seem effortless, graceful, and beautiful. definitely one of the most gifted artists of our time
ju_tu i do too! I'm not great because I don't practice much but the reason I play is because I'm completely in love with everything about cellos and cello music. Also Yo-Yo Ma is incredible i listen to this on repeat
This song tells a tale of a love so subtle and unexperimented thats died long ago, but as the last moments of their lives together they look into each others eyes and see, it could’ve been perfect.
Thanks to my parents for giving me "Carnival of the Animals" when I was young. Now I'm a music teacher. I recommend my young students to listen to it as an introduction to classical music. "The Swan" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created.
I play the cello but I haven't been playing for long and I'm not that good at it..😕 sometimes I find myself crying over how much my fingers hurt and I have thought about giving up many times. But every time I listen to this song and see YoYoMa's passion I remember why I started this in the first place and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be learning how to play such and beautiful instrument❤.
Hope you have kept working at it, I too am learning cello and it was very hard at first, but if you save a recording and then listen to it a month later you will realize how you have improved.
First heard this piece when was a teenager - I cried then ,, and I still cry now,, And seeing it performed as classical ballet piece makes it even more moving..
I used to listen to this song when I was breastfeeding my baby a few years ago. Today, when I was listening to it, he sat on my lap, rested his head in my chest and immediately started sleeping! ❤

This makes me want to sob, because this song is so beautiful. I have so many emotions I cant express it. Whenever I play this song on the cello I start shedding a tear because this song is truly amazing.
This piece has made me think of when my husband and I first met for years. It was a scandal for us to be together at the time so there was much back and forth of emotion from elation and excitement to sorrow and worry that we would be torn apart, to overcoming it all and fighting to be together, consequences be damned because in those quiet moments of bliss together we were assured that we truly belonged together. "So right, but so wrong." When he proposed to me at a beautiful pond, believe it or not, a pair of swans swam right up to us at the moment he asked me for my hand... 24 years we've been together now!
This reminds me of love at first sight. Just the build up feels like looking at the person for the first time and you immediately freeze up. And your heart beats out of your chest. Everything is in slow motion and everything is blurred except for them
Every time i hear this, I always think you are alone in a ball room, as your soulmate plays the cello, while you play the piano. Every note, it gets more and more emotional, just thinking, that one day a stream of pain will go through you entire body, as your last feeling of touch. You recap your life choices, realising all the selfish things you didn't even notice you did to others.
For years I tried to figure out which emotion I felt when listening...was always a love lost, bittersweet, but still love...then my father passed away a year ago and I realized it's grief. I lost one who I loved but the love is still there.
It hurts when the ones who's supposed to support you are the ones who mocks you, I remember my dad saying I'm being overdramatic when I tried Suiciding, I left the house and ran away yet they still find me. I needed help but where were they when I needed them the most? They didn't even bother to let me go to a therapist when It's obvious I need it.
