My wife and I tried having children for 10 years and when she finally got pregnant we were the happiest we had ever been. My baby boy was born too early and unfortunately didn't make it. I got to hold him while his heart beat got slower and slower until it stopped. This song reminds me of him and everytime I would hear it I would cry nonstop. This composition is so beautiful it makes me smile thinking about him. Amazingly incredible how this composition turns a song that makes me cry into a song that makes me smile. Thank you

The goal in life is not to look for happiness, else you eill never be. You must enjoy this moment now else how do you know that when you are actually happy you won't be looking for a future happiness moment instead of enjoying the present. Hope that makes sense.

At the end, when they reach their goal they do not know how to enjoy themselves and just pursue another goal. Just like businessmen who only know how to make more money and not how to use it.

Just saw him play this in the TIME PERSON OF THE YEAR as they showed all the people that passed away in 2020. Its crazy how we are dust in the wind. I cried of sadness but also of gratefulness that I got to live in this perticular moment in time and i got to see many things. To anyone who reads this comment God Bless you, your family, and friends. May you live a happy life, and if your still alive forget all the madness just make the most of your every days because we will be gone one day. Much Love to everyone.

In these times of universal deceit, it is comforting to know that there are real people who share of themselves truthfully.
This song and this building speak so much to me. My soulmate Henry often played Somewhere Over the Rainbow. His daughter played it at his funeral after he passed from this world and she played it so beautifully. And the location the building is where the former Madras Shop was, where my family ran the business. The Madras Shop was there and across the street for 40 years. I feel my whole family and my husband sending me such a strong message through this. Yo-yo Ma plays it with such exquisite sensitivity and expression; we are blessed to have him share this with us.

It was my sister's song too. She passed in 1981 at the age of 15. I was 6. This rips my heart out

The location is a beautiful place in Rockport, MA where my family ran the Madras Shop for 40 years that later became the Shalin Liu Performance Center. We spent many hours working there, enjoying the view of the water, and sharing meals on the back deck.

Gosh, this brings tears to my eyes. For those who might be unaware, this particular song is as much a part of American culture and heritage as just about any other. Our sweet and beloved Dorothy--the fabulous Judy Garland--sang it to us all in the 1939 movie "Wizard of Oz," arguably one of the greatest and most revered movies in the history of American film making. The heartwarming story about a girl and her dog's return home, and love for home, is most beloved. Much of the movie being filmed at that time in color adds to its popularity. This score and the rest of the film's music is marvelous, much of which will be played for generations to come. Yo-Yo Ma and Ms Stott are right to include it in this repertoire--the collaboration here is truly a song of "comfort and hope." Many thanks to them for playing it and sharing with the world.
Credit is profoundly due to composers Harold Arlen and EY Harburg, who won Oscars both for the song and the score. "Over the Rainbow" ranks number one on the American Film Institute's list of best movie songs.

My mom died 6 days ago. The night before she passed, I played this song in my ears while my mom was groaning in pain, losing her consciousness. Her condition is very critical and honestly, nothing could help. I was crying quietly, knowing really well that it's time. My mom wouldn't be her with me anymore. In the morning, she passed. I saw it. My aunt and the nurse trying to pump my mom's heart, putting a oximeter on her finger with no positive result. I was screaming in pain. Calling my dead mom. She's my hero and losing my mom at 14 is very heartbreaking. I cry every night. If I could make a wish, I wished my mom is alive, without all her sickness. I just want her to hug me and kiss me like what it used to be.

I live in Kansas so I hear this song in different forms quite often. This has to be the most beautiful version I have ever heard. Sometimes I look at the hate and anger and awfulness in the world and just wish it would all stop. The really good musicians always have smiles on their faces as they play. They do it for the joy they bring to people… yes they get paid a lot of money, but they would be just as happy busking down on the high street playing for people passing by, as they would be playing for 10,000 people in a concert hall.
