This was a fun interview. Ribsy is exceptionally good at interviews. He finds interesting people, he asks the right questions, and then "gets out of the way" and lets them answer in detail without being interrupted. Thanks Ribsy!
As someone who used to live in Brighton, this is without a doubt the most "Hove, Actually" thing I've ever seen and I love it! I just wish I'd gone and visited myself when I was still living down there. I just love how they're using some fairly high tech solutions like CNC routing and 3D printing to build things that are essentially obsolete technology, and because of those manufacturing methods they can sell them at a price that's accessible for a lot more people. Been toying with getting a 4x5 and this may have convinced me to make it an Intrepid! 😁
A lot people particularly Americans criticise Intrepid cameras for lack of features or rigidity. Some smart guy was comparing one to an Ebony. For the price, they are incredible value. Yes, some features are lacking, but none is essential for making photographs. Show me an 8X10 field camera that could be bought for less than £600.00 new. I don't own Intrepid, nor am I associated with them BTW. My 4X5 cameras are Wista Rosewood DX, MPP MK VII and Cambo SF monorail. Thanks for the video.
I've been thinking about buying one of Intrepid's cameras in the near future, and seeing this was really good. It's nice to see how things are made. I'm only just starting my experimentation with medium format, so it might be a while before I move into a 4x5 LF camera, but it's certainly somewhere I want to get to.
A nice in between is the Mamiya Press with a 6x9 back. Prices are reasonable and yields a large negative. You still have all the ease of using roll film. You also don't need a tripod. Lenses are 50mm to 250mm. The 50mm gives a nice panorama view equal to a 21mm on a 35mm camera. Focus is a rangefinder. The Mamiya Super 23 allows for a ground glass focus.
@@ribsy Investment is the wrong word. It's the word people who buy art use. As an artist, I can't stand it. Some things are worth having for your heart. Having a hand-made camera is very much something you buy mostly with your heart.
Last time I use 4x5 was 6 years ago 😊. Your video makes me clean up my Wista 4x5 and Chamonix 4x5, Schneider Kreuznach lenses and begin to play with the movements again.
thank you for the video. I live 25 miles from the company and did not know tha they were there. I will definitely be going to them soon. Thanks for sharing.
A bit late to this excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to show us Intrepid! I've had my intrepid since 2017--first gen after the kickstarter--and have really enjoyed it. Light weight, well made, and inexpensive. It is nice to put some faces with the names. I am currently saving for the 4x5 enlarger. Considering the improvements they have made since the kickstarter, I unhesitatingly recommend their camera to folks wanting to shoot 4x5.
Great tour and interviews! These guys are knocking it out of the park. Been seriously eyeing their 8x10, but now I’m thinking that the 4x5 would be a great hiking camera. I’m frankly surprised there’s so much demand, but happy too! View cameras can transform your photography. Cheers!
Very interesting - pleased to see Intrepid doing so well. I have their 4x5 and the enlarger. Very good products at a remarkably low price in comparison to other large format. My only request would be a hard stop or other feature to help quickly zero the camera. These videos are great - hope you continue to make them (Adox?, Chroma?)
With the experience they accumulated, they seem to be only few design steps away to offer self assembly for their cameras (concept they praise Prusa for in their video moreover). I am surprised they don't consider this given their budget positioning.
Thanks for the vid! Intrepid is a great company that keeps improving their products. I think it is the best value in large format, especially for the the beginner.
Very cool factory tour. I like 4x5. I hope someday they come up with a field camera as I'd like something hand held. Maybe get one of those LOMO backs for it so I can shoot Instax wide.
Got my 4x5 black edition last week, still far from perfect but you simply can’t beat it when it comes to value for money! Looking forward to the future of Intrepid and what other amazing products they can produce. The enlarger is definitely on my shopping list.
I looked at their site expecting crazy prices but was more than pleasantly suprised at the cost. Very reasonable! Your'e videos have come up a few times in my feed now and I've enjoyed everything I've seen. New sub :)
I am curious, how much would they need to grow for it to make sense to make injection moulds instead of 3d printed parts. Injection moulding is fast and cheap but making the mould is *really* expensive. Also if the parts have very complicated geometry you can't really do it easily. That is how I understand it at least, I am just a person who has read some stuff online.
Dude i am from the Bronx and work in RIVERDALE, would be cool to get together and go shooting, i shoot with an M6 and A Hassy 501cm, My next purchase will be an INTREPID for sure, this is an AWESOME video, Thank You for this.
Fantastic video. I wish Intrepid would make a 6 X 17 view camera. I’m looking for a new one and I believe that only Shin Hao makes new ones and it comes in at around $3,000. Can you imagine the market Intrepid would have with a $1,000-1,500 panoramic view camera? That would be amazing! Thanks, I’m a new subscriber.
Amazing video, I want one not for photography, but for display of this example of a beautifully engineered camera. Also to learn the intrinsic nature of 4x5 photography, I shoot 35mm mostly, and not sure to get into 4x5.
Ribsy, I have looked at the 5x4 enlarger for about a year now. Your video convinced me to pull out the wallet and order one for my 5x5 Anniversary Speed Graphic, giving me a 21st Century Graflarger. I'm looking forward to using this as a UV enlarger as well.
Thanks, another very interesting Video!! I"m getting the impression you moved....from UK to US? Have a great weekend, looking forward to your next video! CC
Thanks, interesting and inspiring video. I wasn't aware of Intrepid (it's been a few years since I've been in the UK). It makes me want to get back to my LF. You should try it (you could sell your digital kit and do REAL photography😉)!
hey, it's not the out of house manufacturing that worries us, as consumers, its the ROBOTICS, INcluding the cnc and 3D printing, as NO person does it with their own hands, like old school woodworking, blacksmithing, etc. these robots and computer guided machines take our JOBS, as only 1 is required to design, and 1 to load the input and take from the output of these machines, which is why it is soo sad, and the reason for such a High unemployment rate in the world today.

LOVED this! So cool to see how these cameras come together and "meet" the people involved.

Thanks for your video tours! I have had a MK4 for a year and a half now, love it. It's nice to see how it was made.
Very cool!
Amazing! The skill and dedication on display is inspiring. Seeing how focused the guy in the background at the end was, I was truly enraptured. Bravo
Yea! Lots of dedication
As a person who just ordered an enlarger this video is getting me so pumped for when it arrives! Loved to see behind the scenes
Get excited!

Thanks for the video, this company will get many more people hooked on film. Fantastic value for money !

I like my MPP Micropress 5x4 because it folds away with the lens in place.
I would love to try an Intrepid enlarger however.

You def should! That thing is huge haha

The whole environment looks so cosy. 21:45 did the founder give any indication on whether if a 4x5 Mk5 is coming out?
i know nothing 😅

Check out some 3D printed options
I enjoyed that Ribsy, are they going to make an enlarger that takes 5x4 negatives?
I think they already have one, it’s the original I believe
They have one already. I just ordered it for about 250 UK pounds to the States, including the 120 and 35mm film masks, shipping and packing.
@@Kitsaplorax I know they do 35 and 120 but I have enlargers that do that I want 5x4 negatives- just check it out and the original one does

Great Video!!! I loved watching the 3-D Printers in action!!!
Me too!
loving these tours and behind the scenes stuff! thanks for the videos!
Glad you like it!
I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable those cameras are. Certainly not cheap, but not nearly as expensive as I thought.
Yea it’s a good bang for your buck

Great work with the video!
So nice to see how they work!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks 😊
Great video and interview. Those folks are really into their product. Thanks. KB

Ordered my 5x7 a few weeks ago. Can't wait to shoot my homemade dry plates on it 🥰

Brilliant to see, I’m going to buy one when I’m able to.
Def! It’s a great cause
Is analogue the right word for film? Chemical maybe, but analogue?
Yea everyone says analog
Just wondering, is there actually any labs that will develop LF film or when getting into LF is it pretty much a requirement to do home development?
Yes. Portland has a lab that does 4x5. They also sell typewriters and film.
Plenty of labs in NYC that do up to 8x10
Yea a lot of labs do it
Another great video! I'm so glad to see young people coming up with modern equipment for analog photography. Good stuff, thanks.
Thanks for watching
WOW! Very impressive. Great video
Thanks for watching!
Nice one but is that drill chuck bent at 6:14 got a wobble on
Looks fine to me
It's a tapping head with a reverse engage clutch

4 generations in and they're still not using any light seals or even black paint on their backs, ffs.
Seems like that hasn’t been a problem
Hello, all our cameras have light seals inside and are fully tested in the darkroom before they complete in production.
Using the Intrepid will inevitably cause problems.
Why
Wait
Did they just say they’re working on turning the camera into a dark room enlarger 🤠
Nah that is crazy oh my god
yup 😁

Probably cuz she had the experience required for the role. Same reason anyone gets hired for anything
