Thankyou so much for doing this video. My husband and I just bought the 87 palomino pop up canvas tarp .He just had a heart attack so he was worried about the wieght. We are planning a full renovation of this camper. This video put his mind a ease. Thank you again.
Thanks for the video! I have a TXL-SC that is huge. Bought it from a guy that only used in for a week every year or so to go fishing around Va Beach. Perfect condition with everything you can pack in a popup - regular home type AC housed at floor level, 19,000 btu Gas Heater, bath with hot water heater, gas stove for inside and out cooking, water pump, electric self-contained recirculating potty, gas and 12 volt refrigerator, electric screw lift on the tongue, and awning hooked to the roof. King bed one end, full on the other. Had it about 1O years and used it three times. Busy working, but now I’m retired. Love the rubberized canvas on each end. Like another review that said to put snaps on the canvas to supplement the Velcro. IT’S A GREAT CAMPER. Bought it for $3,500 and it didn’t need a thing done to it. Pulls like a dream, too. I have considered an A-Liner, but can’t bear to part with the self-contained Palomino with all the convinces and much more room. One thing. After I bought it, I searched and found the old Palomino folks and they had 4 new lift springs in stock. Snapped them up. Install was easy and it helps with the lifting of the large and heavy roof. The beauty of this camper style is that you get the enjoyment of tent camping at night when in bed under the canvas, and the security and stability of hard sides. Oh yes! Also replaced the heater thermostat with an electronic model. More accurate, especially the time I had it out in the winter. Again, enjoyed your video. I will try the method of going to the open door to snap the sides in place and lock the sides right then. I have been doing it at the lift rod on the end, and it’s harder to snap it in place that far from the center😊
Wow, amazing write up! Yeah it was a great camper for us to get our feet wet. We are un a larger hybrid camper now but soon we will be upgrading once again and getting something larger. We camp a good ten times per year or so.
been looking at getting an older one as well and I really like and prefer the ones with the exterior arm Lift systems as Most of the ones ive seen (not all but alot) of the popups with the Cable lifts always seem to have brolen cables But stuff happens with age but seems these early to late 80s models of campers seem to endure the best over time Looking forwaerd next year to going camping again
Raisehell not sure where you are located (in the world) but I know that here in GA there are FB groups JUST for selling, repurposing, or buying used campers and RVs. Def check the FB market place. we may have to sell ours on fb. not sure yet.
Hmm, I'm in Texas, I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the tip. The add I'm looking at says air conditioning unit, does y'alls stay cool? I'd imagine GA summers are just as brutal as TX, and I'm too old for all of that.
Raisehell the account unit blows COLD but it's an old camper and can't pull that much current for long. I have ran it for hours for fear of burning on the plug, which is something I read online somewhere. ive also read that Updating the power unit inside helps
I just gifted this to a good friend for that same reason. we have a FOREST RIVER SHAMROCK HYBRID now and we love it!! I have a video of it on my channel also.
@@Garage-wt5jl Your video showed up on the Popup Camper Owners page, I'm a sucker for Palominos (grew up with a Puma Stalker, pre Palomino era), and found my '97 in great condition after a year of looking. I too went to hybrid, had wanted to do lawyerly volunteer work at the border, but other dockets got in the way, plus COVID wiped out our camping reservations, it's not working out as planned. Fuel mileage with the hybrid really sucks. Slowly looking for something with a smaller profile. Your Palomino set up is getting a lot of views. Here's my Palomino and rehab: legalectric.org/weblog/15644/
Thanks for the video! I just bought a 85, was a huge help! My camper did not come with the main sleeve to lock the first arm in place, I wonder how I can replace that... any suggestions?
Thanks for the video. We just bought an '87 Palomino soft side, but the interior looks exactly the same (I watched your other video, too). Do you have any idea how to remove the fridge? We want to change the door-it opens on the wrong side. But we can't pull it out to change it. Removed 4 screws on the front frame, but it still won't budge.
Awesome!. Thanks for posting, LaDarryl. Camping in Wisconsin means the weather can turn on a moments notice. When an unexpected storm rolls through I'd rather not be surrounded by canvas only. Is yours a ten footer? How big are the beds? ---John
Im not sure of the box length or the extended length. Sorry. I say its over 10ft but not over 15ft. I'll have to get out there with my tape measure to confirm. I have more videos of the camper (especially the inside) posted on here also. One bed is a queen size and the other one is a full, but again I'll have to measure then to be exact. I just got the camper around the time I made this video so we actually havent camped in it yet. We will very soon though. Spring is here!
Roger Melendez I'm really not sure where to find parts for these dinosaurs lol. I did find a place to purchase replacement springs but I can't even remember where that place is now. I recently did a lot of wood replacing and just updated parts and screws using what i could find at home Depot
TFierce you know what? Bigger tires would probably make a world of difference. I was just going to buy a low mount trailer hitch to level out the camper while in town, hoping that it wouldn't scrap the ground that way
Hey we were looking at an 88 looks like to be in good condition but one of the arms is broken....do you have any idea where to get replacement parts for these as ive been looking everywhere online for the pass few hours
Craig Trimmer sorry but ive ran into finding replacement parts myself. I've done repairs and have had to reuse as much of the original stuff as possible. I just serviced mine and the arms look like something that could be fabricated y using new steel poles depending on where they are broken.
Mine also broke at the hinge when I was purchasing it. I found it by googling and it was on the palomino website for 60.00 each piece. Was u able to fix yours or buy new
We didn't end up buying it, bought a different camper altogether, there was too much that needed fixed and working 6 days 10 hrs, well no time to be a handy man. We did find it, 55 bucks for half the arm or a whole new arm for 110.
Thanks for the information I just bought the 1989 palomino it has the shower and the toilet. But I have a question what do you use for the lube on the springs

Cool! I like this design better than cranking and dealing with cables. I have a 1987 Coleman Columbia.
Thanks for posting! Not a lot videos online on these
Yeah it was a fun camper while we had it

oh and Great how to video by the way Thanks a bunch for making and sharing never seen a hard sided popup before :-)
I was looking for a simple video to see what the camper looks like during and after raising. Thanks for the excellent instruction.
Martin Ross so happy the video helped.
I've been looking at getting an old palomino, but had no real reference until I found your videos. Thank you so much for posting these!

Thank you for posting this video. I am purchasing a 1985 version of this camper and your video helped me make the decision to purchase it.
Great video! Thanks for the tip on the dolly!
Nooo problem😎
Great little camper
Man loved the video it's way faster to set up than my crank from the back system and mines a1994
Thanks!
Great video! Looks like a super sturdy pop up!
Nice camper I like the solid fold down walls and the spring system and a little carrier that you got on eBay. happy trails my brother
Thank you very much!!!
Thank you. Great video
Thank you! I just bought 1 and was intimidated, but looks easy and good
Its not hard. Just choke the wheels and use as much leverage as you can while pulling back on the lift arms.
Thank you. This was alot of help with my 1989
you're most welcome
Nice camper! I'm looking at one on craigslist, thanks for posting this!

I just bought one today. has anyone replaced ac?
Love it!
Its a nice camper
What the heck that's pretty neat I had never seen that before I think that's easier than the Coleman .
I love the video I have a 1979 xlt hard side you should try adding pop buttons to the Velcro strips it keeps them closed for added protection
I love it !
Love your trailer!!! I had a '97, sold to go to hybrid

@@Legalectric oh really? thats awesome that its getting love. its an amazing camper. A good place to start. they need to make more hard sided pups.
Looks easy enough. Thanks!
Thank you so much for posting!
I just got this exact one, its hard to find any kind of manual for this model.
Noooo Problem! hope it helps!
You are a lifesaver
would love to see a better picture of where and how the springs go and look like.. bought a used pop up with broken broken spring
Dang. I no longer have this little gem. I wish I could have shown you.
My folks have a 87 hardside Palomino as well. Realky thinking about fixing it up.
I think you could replace those springs with struts now.
Really? That would be awesome! I've moved on to a larger camper now but that's good info for the masses to have.
Nice video! I wish mine was that easy to pop up. I usually need 2 people to lift it.
Yeah I really like how easy it is.
Good video.
Thanks yo!
Great video
cool 😎 my name is Elliott and l have a 92 palomino txl popup...l will connect back after the new year
premiumgifts hey Elliot. How'l are you and your camper doing?
Where can I get the rail where the big spring connects to the rod? Because my rod bended and couldn't open up.
Thanks for the video! I just bought a 85, was a huge help! My camper did not come with the main sleeve to lock the first arm in place, I wonder how I can replace that... any suggestions?
very nice!
I know this video is old, but did anyone ever locate the replacement springs? I have a 1984 Palo Pony like this

Do you know where I can get those pull up bars from? Thanks
www.rvworkshop.com/index.php?rn=698&action=show_detail&edit_item=0
you can try this place. I ordered an arm from here but still needed to modify it a little bit to fit
Excellent video. Any water leaks after it's set up?
We havent had any leaks BUT I also dont trust water so if its gonna rain hard and for hours on end I usually throw a tarp over it.

have you found a place to get replacement parts? I need the lifting arms
Good morning! Sorry for the late reply but did you ever find the lift arms you needed?
Have a palomino soft side but my hinges broken any ideas or help

Thank You! I wanted to see that. I may get one! Windering how they do in storms and wind??? Thanks!!
I have yet to use mine in crazy high winds but im sure it performs pretty well.
Thanks
no problem at all
Does anyone know what this lift system is called? I have a 1988 sun lite pop up that is supposed to have the same lift system.
I'm not sure but I know it's spring assisted
Niceee popup!!!
What was that??? What was what? Lol
40,000 wow.
Now its yours 🙂
i like the dollie
BRUT3MURD3R3R it's very useful around the yard
Great video! I have the same exact camper. Did you ever get bigger tires for it? I ask because it's pretty low to the ground.
TFierce you know what? Bigger tires would probably make a world of difference. I was just going to buy a low mount trailer hitch to level out the camper while in town, hoping that it wouldn't scrap the ground that way
That's exactly what I did. Got one with a bigger drop and it made a world of difference. Now it's 2-3 inches higher in back.
What is the weight on this? I am looking at one and need to be able to tow with my Subaru Outback.
I've never got the weight nailed down. I tow it with my Chevy avalanche with ease. I'm not sure the towing capabilities of an Outback
My springs must be bad cause it takes a TON more force to lower my Palomino hard side.
xBigRedDawgx oh wow.yeah Maybe so. it should be pretty easy.
xBigRedDawgx did u replace your springs? I just purchased a 89 palomino mxl and it also takes some power to get it down.

Just realized this is 7 yrs old. Do you still have it or did you "upgrade"?
