Oh mine darling Robin i am now 65 and now i have cancer i lising not anymore to music till now Robin R.I.P. this song can sing alone by you!!! a lot of love
Mervyn Sullivan I'm ashamed to say that at the tender age of 44 and I've only just discovered it! I thought it was the hairy one that was the best singer but clearly not as this song is beautiful
I’m here because of my Father love it, he passed away 16 years ago I was 10 years old when he left us . I really missed him. Every time I’ve listened to this song my tears 😭 like a river . I missed you and I love you so much Pa 😘❤️😍
Though this song is considered old in musical reference, it still springs new to the masses who perpetually discover and rediscover the talents of the Bee Gees. Even those of us who have been fans for the span of a generation find new meaning in old lyrics as life carries us into dimensions we have never before explored. Often seen as a spiritual commentary on Robin's part, he has never claimed that to be the basis of the piece, as such. Experience draws us all in a diversity of directions, often all at once, and inspiration is the trickle-down of that overload. I am not one to climb into the great minds of our times and autopsy their brainchild of work but I have an awareness of something woven into the lyric here that I've never before seen discussed. The piece encompasses only eight lines of poetic statement, clean and straight-forward in appearance and delivery, yet steeped in the mystery of a thousand ages. This song leaves naked, parts of the soul we tend to keep covered, even from our own deeper selves. We see in it, our own personal sins of omission that do not look so pretty in black and white and are even more haunting when presented in a package of understated music and single-voiced verse. Although I do see where the spiritual intonation peers through the lyric at us, I see here, too, the personal commentary of an inner moral dilemma being posed by the subject and the step by step process by which he rationalizes his justification for not following his inner personal voice. This person wants desperately to shed his etiquetted skin and stand on the purity of truth rather than cower in civilized silence in the face of injustice. He theorizes the consequences of such an action on his part. He knows his statement will upset the world that, up to this point, was living comfortably in its own shallow self-deception. Because his view is so different from everyone else, he knows this will upset the sedate tranquility of those around him. In defensive retaliation, rather than re-examining, reforming, and admitting to the error of their ways, society would turn its collective, disdainful back on his statement and proclaim the fundamental truth he has exposed to be merely the folly of a prankster. He goes on to see that he will not be taken seriously and cries in the frustration of being the only one who has had this vision of truth and reality. He feels alone and small in the cosmos. At this, he knows the world will take great delight in his outward appearance of weakness and defeat and in their arrogance he knows they will unite in crushing declamation and mercilessly taunt him wherever he goes, all the days of his life. He looks up, seeking heavenly approval and resolve of the issue. He attempts to clear his eyes searching for a sign of the miraculous awakening of those around him. Just as he begins to dry his eyes in the faith that, because of his sincerity of heart, there will surely now be change, he tumbles out of his dream-state into reality. He falls hard from grace back into the moment. The enormity of the entire situation crashes over him like a tidal wave as he sees the ramifications of what he has started by his simple statement of truth. He is paralyzed in thought and can no longer make sense of his own words as they drown in the whirlpool of confusion between human emotion and soulful truth. He eventually dies a broken man because he knows the truth but never pursued it to the fullest of its intent due to his lack of courage in his own personal convictions. He saw himself as wholly inadequate to challenge what he did not approve of in this world so he never stood up for what he believed in. After his death, civilization perpetuates itself in its blithe ignorance, unscathed by the voice of truth he held within. He is gone, and with him, the potential threat he posed to a thinly-skinned euphoric society. In the end, he sees that he had indeed been right and that society was truly wrong. He knows then, all too late, that he would have made a difference if only he had not given in to his own imagined fears. He wasted a lifetime repressing himself and the truth he had once envisioned. He had become his own worst enemy. He had shackled his own soul down - not the society that he had tried to hold accountable for his lack of action. He ultimately became the very thing he once morally raged against - a silent, self-deceiving member of a pretentious urbane society. Yes, the joke WAS on him.

As of 2021, I am 14, and I mainly know this song because of my grandfather, he would always since this or at least the chorus when I was younger. He sang it so much that whenever I hear it, I think of him. I'm extremely lucky that he's still alive and doing pretty well for his age, although he can't walk as good as before, he's still pretty good and I hope him and my Grandmother can live long enough so that they can give my soon to be 2 years old brother the same memories they gave me
It’s such a beautifully painful song. Between the words you hear the pain and sorrow of a life gone wrong and no road back. Like much of the music of that era a true masterpiece.

The first time I listened this song when I was teenager in the late of 70-s, one day when my uncle came home from his study in a big city. I started to love this song till now im 60 yo
Someone said this song is the best in the universe for the history. I believe he is right. Every time I listened to this song, I started to cry soon and could not stop crying. The song always washes my soul and reminds me life is so weak and helpless.
Marquet Huguette What does Bob Dylan have to do with this? Robin Gibb is using hyperbole to express regret and remorse over the pain that he caused in his life. That is the point of the song. It has nothing to do with a blood pact with Satan. Good grief.
Love all those songs, no exception. Singing is a must for me. Thanks for all those that has bring love 😊 peace ✌️ harmony, etc with their voices, love you all, again; No exception 🌹💋
I was cleaning my gallery, deleting pictures when I saw a screenshot photo with list of golden songs including this. I remembered the purpose why I kept those list, to download these songs for my grandmother. I love it when she sings along with songs like this and sometimes make her dance. The photo that I took on April 1 that I only remembered tonight is of no use now, she died last April 15. If only....I want to make her laugh and happy for the last timeeee.
My lovely mum's song used to get me to sing along with her when she had a rare drink asked me to play it at her funeral Nov 2018 always brings a tears to my eyes when I listen the joke was never on u u was an amazing person and no 1 will ever compare to you miss & love you mum I'll never stop listening to this song❤️❤️
Papa tu es partie rejoindre les anges le 20 Avril 2020. J'ecoute cette chanson des Beegees car tu m'a bercer avec ces musiques. Mes larmes coulent, papa je t'aime.
It's so hard to believe that all but Barry have passed, even the youngest brother Andy many years before the twins. But it's so sad that such a talented and gifted family suffered such tragedy and loss in their lives. Robin did manage to live to be 63 before dying of Cancer outliving his twin Maurice who died at only 44...but the biggest tragedy of that family was when Andy (just days past his 30th birthday) died of heart failure and 5 shorts years later their father would join him dying also of heart failure. Now Barry and his wife Linda hold down the Gibb legacy and remind us of just how fragile life is and how no matter the fame or glory it can all come to a early end...so appreciate the now, love those you have in your life while you can and never allow their memory to fade. The Bee Gee's live on through the amazing music they shared with the world and will live on long after the last of them are gone. R.I.P Robin, Maurice, Andy and Dad Hugh. You're legacy lives on.

Beautiful song is inspiring to me it tells us to live dont waste time the joke is on us if we dont live this life ,everyone goes on after we finally die but we all know we are all dying every day from the moment we take our first breath so live it to the fullest. I didn't it know this but after surviving a mayor heart attack last year this song is inspiring to me . Be bless🇩🇴

Thanks conjuring 2 for this beautiful song 😭 want to cry now.... Hurting my head from the things I'd said.... Joke is seriously on me.
@Arturo Zavala do you know what I'm regretting reply to his comment on fb .. from that time my bad time has started
Someone said this song is the best in the universe for the history. I believe he is right.
Every time I listened to this song, I started to cry soon and could not stop crying. The song always washes my soul and reminds me life is so weak and helpless.
boohoo the amount of self-pity in this song is hilarious.
lithium2370 The song uses hyperbole to express remorse and regret over a former, foolish blindness. I'd say it's a masterpiece
Yes it does wash your soul
John Benko Bob Dylan and many other artists said they had signed a blood pact with Satan. I think it is the joke.
Marquet Huguette What does Bob Dylan have to do with this? Robin Gibb is using hyperbole to express regret and remorse over the pain that he caused in his life. That is the point of the song. It has nothing to do with a blood pact with Satan. Good grief.
What an amazing lirycs I ever listen and watch in my life. Love it! Bee gees.

I LISTEN TO THIS SONG AGAIN AND AGAIN, IT IS TOO BEAUTIFUL, IT BRINGS ME A LOT OF MEMORIES.

@ Anne B.~How thoughtful of you to share your insight with such an increasingly callous world. I am quite surprised that your commentary wasn't followed by many unkind or even cruel remarks. Thank you for caring.
So so sad... X
