I swear Brad IS the nicest guy ever! He's always smiling and encouraging others and very appreciative, but then he gives the keys to his very nice jeep to a guy that brakes down every time he goes to this event so the guy can get his trail badge. That's awesome, and so was this video. 👏👏👍👍
Sometime you should do a video on all the prep you do before an adventure like this. All we ever see is a fully equipped jeep leaving the trailhead
He has an older video where everyone takes turns on the lift where everyone goes through and checks rig.
We prepped for this event like we did for any trail that we have been on. For food, we only needed lunch and snacks for the days you are there and whatever you bring for the potluck dinner. Breakfast and dinner are catered. Fill up your vehicle with gas in Claude or Amarillo and bring your Rotopax just in case. They have showers and bathrooms available at Merus.
It seems like it takes me two weeks to prep for a four/five day trip...not just prepping my truck. All of the little stuff. Paper towels/TP. Coffee stuff, batteries, salt and pepper, watching the weather forecasts and bringing the right gear. Planning meals....
@@scottymac5174 That's more like I would imagine. I can't believe people would just leave all their camping stuff in their rig between trips. Then the cleaning process after a trip must be a project too

I try to watch other overlanding channels, but i keep coming back to TrailRecon… the satisfaction i get from watching these videos are unmatched to other outdoor videos!

It's been 11 years that I've wanted to own a Jeep, and I started watching these kinds of videos in 2016. I knew I could go to AZ,CO,UT and rent a Jeep for a few days with my wife to have that experience, but this looks sooo much better. The fact that you can rent a Jeep there for this event is fantastic, please let us know the date for next year so we can try to get there. cheers from New England

This is our second year attending and you are correct. The spirit and comradery of the people you meet is just amazing. We've met so many people and coincidentally, we met a couple that lives like two miles from us back in Florida. LOL

Purchased my 2018 JK on Wed. and Jerry has ordered all the parts for the build 👍. Trailrecon order has started showing up on my porch and we are excited.

I own a 1970 Jeep wagoner 4x4 i just put 31/10.50/15 tires on it I knew you own one do I need to upgrade the suspension because it rubs every now and then I enjoy your channel awesome adventure God bless ✝️🇺🇸

I'm in bed recovering from a partial knee replacement surgery. Fantastic video for me to watch. I forgot about my pain. But I sure was Nervous about some of the folks on the trail... But your right positive attitude makes a hell of difference!!!!!!!

I'd love an interview with the Rivian owner to find out what they think of its performance and how they manage the battery while out in the wilderness. Looks like a fun ride and some good food. It shows how much of a stand-up guy you are to let someone drive your Jeep to finish the challenge.
This event, Brad & Regena, the Merus Team, Chris Jolly and all the old and new friends made this one of the most memorable experiences in my life.

Funny you mention turning of your gps device. I like to use it to get to my main area, then turn it off also until needed. I find it distracting on the trail, taking my thoughts off of the beauty I came to see to begin with. Just those few second looks back at your devices every few minutes really begins to distract. I spent my younger years backpacking with no electronics or vehicles but now enjoy using my Jeep to get way out in the backcountry but still like the back to nature feel with modern distractions put away.
I think there is something to be said about trying to get back to using a basic map and just really focusing on exploring.
Hopefully next year I can be part of the group as it looks like a great time.
Brad-my wife and I have been watching your videos since we purchased our Gladiator last December. We love your content and always look forward to your next adventure, but this video really has us pumped to join you next year!!! Love what you stand for, and being a veteran as well, look forward to supporting Operation Home Front during the night ride when we do get there. Do you know the date of next year's TR Summit yet?

I lived in Amarillo for 5 years. It is the real “Windy City”. One day it was -11 F with 35 mph sustained winds. -47 chill. It was the coldest place in the nation that day. Pablo Duro Canyon is a special place wind or not.

As always, thank you. We just came off of the Kokopelli Trail. Two “extreme” parts gave us great views, and opportunities to test our Jeeps - but - my Jeep JL Sahara with 33” tires and a 2” lift kit would NOT have made it on those “extreme” routes. Front and rear lockers, skid plates, and higher lifts with 35”-40” tires were absolutely required. Now it’s time to look at upgrades vs buying a Rubicon. Decisions, decisions. Any thoughts?

The ONLY time I use a map is on a
Hat-McC trail if I haven’t done the system in a while. My usual riding spots, I’ve memorized plenty of trails.
Would a full size truck make it around Merus? I seem to remember a video you did at Merus where it was super tight for your Jeep and my Power Wagon likely wouldn't have fit. Was that on the extreme trail?

Like the minimum mods for beginning rock crawling and overlanding, then some more moderate mods, then compare it to a heavily modded Jeep? Thanks! Love your vids! I would agree with putting your Gps away especially if someone else is leading . My wife calls me her personal TOM TOM and it use to bug people in a 4wheel drive club i use to belong to. I was a tale gunner on a run of a trail that i laid out years before. They got to a point on the trail where you could go 3 different ways. I just kept my mouth shut and let them figured it out. The guy that was leading the run was to busy looking at his GPS when he recorded it when i had lead it before that he never looked up at landmarks or like you said enjoy your surroundings.. I am going to have to get to this place. Lots of the stuff looks familiar but its been probably 30 years since i did the Pala Duro Jeep Jamboree.. Really have been enjoying your Videos

I highly suggest learning to read a topographical map and carry them with you of the area your off roading in. I almost wrote area of operation 😂.

There's no list but you can register for next year's event, which will be Oct. 3-6, when we open registration sometime in Spring 2024. As we get closer to registration, info will be posted here on the community tab, on Facebook, and Instagram, and Merus will have info on their website too. We do our best to post info about any events we're doing on all the socials.

Sorry, I haven't had a rooftop tent on my Jeep for years. James Baroud is a quality tent, although they're pricey.
We ended up with a Smitty. When you took the Rhino rack off of the top of your Jeep, what did you do about the holes that you drilled?

Military here as well (still in). I’m lucky I can sleep in until 8 if I try which almost never happens bc my body is just programmed to be up at 5 and the rare occasions I’m comfortable in bed the dogs are up and asking to go out lol
