Seeing the very first pair of look pedals. I owned a pair of these, even then they looked like a huge wedge but worked faultlessly for years, then moved onto the Carbon pros (which were also superb). Back then, these were one of the best purchases i made for my road bike.
Always love gcn videos showing how things are made in factory. Makes people understand the price the products command and appreciates the tech and lengthy process that goes into producing them
GREAT VIDEO, I love seeing quality products made! Interesting history report too! The quality control outstanding, makes it clear you get what you pay for. Have you seen the Cinelli M-71 pedals? They pre-date Look and are clipless, but no quick release. They locked you in place for track racing, no accidental release.
Fascinating. I love these factory vids. Interesting to see the quality control. Next time you wonder why one pedal is more expensive than some no name brand (discounting the marketing spend), QA has a lot to do with it and you can be sure that your pedals are more than likely to keep working for a good while. p.s. i don’t own a pair of Looks, just prefer Time but you can’t say they’re not a solid product.

I owned a pair on their original white pedals back in 1987, and changed to TIME then they hit the market a year later...If only LOOK would manufacture different length spindles for their road pedals, so us folks who are broader across the beams could have the correct Q-Factor...
I have Look 2Max Blade pedals that use the cabon spring blades. These pedals have the pre fixed tension settings that cannot be adjusted. The problem I have is that the spring tension of one is different from the other. And there is no way I can change this.
With all that testing it’s a pity Look don’t do a waterproof/sweat test. The last 4 sets of Keo Blade 2 Carbon/Ti pedals that I bought were all sent back with seized/graining bearings within 6 months of purchase. I sweat a lot and live in Malaysia but that’s no excuse with their most expensive top end pedals. I use Speedplay now which I love because I can service them myself whenever they need it. Super easy to do compared to Look pedals that cannot be serviced!
Have you folks at gcn looked at time road bike pedals? They also make great carbon pedals. Look pedals are not the only great pedal in the world. Perhaps a test?
Is that a Crank Brothers Eggbeater under Ollie's left hand at 0:52 or a Look knockoff of it? Are the two Look factories the only places Ollie can teleport between?
Probably was to do a weight comparison to show how blade pedals are lighter, but someone probably realized Crank Bros have sponsored GCN/GMBN before and cut that segment out.
Similar here... I use MTB shoes and SPD cleats (and occasionally flats) for errands, commuting, etc., but the longer/harder "real" rides are with Look pedals and road shoes. In a pinch, though, I like that Look pedals can also be used as flats. 🚴
Everything made by look requires that you take out a second mortgage to make a purchase . If you ask me it's all way overpriced even when comparing to other high end bike companies
Nice job Ollie, would like to know how many of those pedals go for 2 weeks of stress test per batch? What is their mean time for failure? Someday would like to get me a pair of these carbon bike pedals, they look very cool. Great video!
I tried Look pedals cept the back plate worn down (which hooks to the back of the cleat) - the carbon spring of the top pedals is too stiff on it, and on the front of the pedal, the cleat wears the inner section of the front of the carbon body tho Shimano's wears a bit better. You've got to keep carbon-body pedals pretty clean!
It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
I'm trying to deicide which pedal to use on my Specialized Flat Bar Sirrus Elite? I would like to try the keo max 2 but I like the freedom of flat pedal so I can just jump on the bike and ride without having to put on special shoes.
Someone please explain to me why every keo padal has so much slop between the pedal body and axle right after you ride them the first time. Every pair I’ve seen has this same issue. My mind is blown…$400 pedals…
Anyone have thoughts on the Look SPD vs Shimano SPD? I won a set of Look ones through racing and trying to figure out whether to sell the Look unused, or change from my Shimano. Thx.
I use the Keo 2 pedals.. Super light pedals, but just like how the pros put tape/sticky bar tape on them, the pedals have slide to slide play when pushing the power up hill :\
I don’t get it. People keep calling them ‘clipless’, but you have to clip in to them to ride. I’ve been riding Look pedals sine the late 1980s. I would have thought we’d have a better name for this type of pedal by now.
Elena Dolgin, Um, yeah I get that. I ride Shimano 105 pedals like that before the Looks. But the thing at the front actually wasn’t a clip. It was a metal or plastic loop with a strap that was closed with a buckle. There actually wasn’t anything clip like about it. Modern pedals have a spring actuated clamp, clip, or binding... just like Look’s origins in ski bindings. That really is a clip. You could call them binding pedals, snap in pedals, or cleated pedals. But clipless just doesn’t make sense.
Hi Ollie, I just worked it out Look has been a big part of my life with bicycles, 13 year old me went all by my self with my new birthday present race bike to Peerless cycles in 1987 the obviously knowledgeable South African gent sold me a pair of Sidi shoes which i still own and a boxy pair of grey looks (stolen with the bike a few years later) I still own the Look Arcs which I replaced them with in the 90s. funny that they decided to reappoint you for advertising their brand after last time’s blunder!

I have ordered my Look Keo Ti Carbon Pedals. Along with a 12 speed Ultegra Di2 Groupset/ Rotor ALDHU Crankset instead of Ultegra. Lighter & stronger
