Did you copy the Monkey Paw design? I have a cheap Chinese pick set that includes an identical pick to your Monkey Paw, and I have had this set long before your Sparrows pick was sold.
@@toddlofthouse8383 It is a GOSO, according to the embossing on the handle, and a number 8 imprinted on the metal. I can't post a link to the photo, youtube doesn't allow it.
If something sells well, copycats will follow. Patents used to stop them, but all the imports on eBay and Amazon ignore IP protections, and the aspects of the turner that might be patentable (exact angles and length) weren't copied. We seem to have forgotten the lesson of WWII that a substantial manufacturing base is essential to the defense of a country.
Too similar for me is the name SP-1 as SP comes from the German word for tension and Haoshi does not seem to be a German company like Multipick is. Also this is clearly designed to show up in queries for SP-1 on online shops for example. I put this in the category of a blunt copy, like with so many other things.
Being copied is the ultimate compliment. However, by going through and pointing out the differences and deficiencies, you've now told Haoshi exactly how to modify their cheap copies to make them more accurate. Just can't win, some days... ;) Me? I'd prefer to pay the money to Sparrows and Multipick to get the real thing. In fact, I did...!
Clearly they do not understand why the original tools were designed the way they are. In case of the fake goat wrench, they even did not understand the purpose of the tool. And it doesn't seem like they bothered to buy one original tool to get the dimensions right.
I'd actually recommend reading The Hardware Hacker by Andrew Huang. It includes a section discussing attitudes to Intellectual Property in China. That might explain why - if these are copies from your designs (which would appear likely) - they changed the design enough to argue that they are "improvements" on your design. Even if those "improvements" actually negatively impact the functionality of the tools.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. They also say "THIEVES!". Sadly some people will buy the knock-offs instead of the quality Multipick set you helped to design. Nothing to be done about that except to say, buyer beware.
It seems that you're surprised by the facts that a) a Chinese company made a knockoff of a popular product; and b) they did it poorly. Both are quite common. In fact, I saw a note at Banggood that said they had temporarily removed one of their more popular tools because it had been made with the original company's logo by mistake.
I saw them for some time ago. 🙄 While shopping around on one of those chinse sites and my very first thought was: Damn, they are fast to rib off Lock Noob's design...😮 Then i remembered, that you ones said, that the designs on lockpicks, tension tools and other lockpiciking equipment was rarely protected by a patent.. So this was actually unavoidable and it would eventuel happen at some point... And we all know, that if you see a chinse man taking pictures of somethings here in the vest, then you will surely soon be able to see the exact same thing in China🤣🤣🤣 The Goat-wrench and the single ended Dimple-tensioners are already on my wish list. But somethings you should definitely never buy in China.. We want the real stuff that actually works 😉👍
Hey man dont feel bad, literally 1 minute ago i was on Aliexpress and saw that Haoshi already copied the Sparrows disk detainer pick that Bill and LPL designed…. Except its purple. It costs $38 i think i saw…??? Absolutely crazy…
I can't say for sure, but there's many signs suggesting our friend Haoshi is the man behind Lock Pick Mall. He's read his market very badly and in fairness has put a lot of work into thoroughly tarnishing his reputation.
it’s such a shame when you spend time and effort coming up with designs.. i know they might be cheaper, making them more available for some people but quality makes all the difference. i’d rather pay more for something that will last longer.. and also fit locks lol😂 Take Care ⭐️
While getting copied can be a compliment it can also hurt when it’s done poorly as it doesn’t include the hood or work just the end product. At its basics the things are just cut metal and outside of exact copies leaves room for interpretation and adaption; one big take away, at least regarding the dimple tools, is just how much cheaper in cost they could be given what they are. It would be nice to see some of these things from say Sparrows or Southord as they can both offer more inexpensive tools whereas Multilock tends to charge for the simple branding, not to -it their tools down as some are great but at least to me these turners seem really overpriced.
They've copied the aesthetics, but not the functionality? That pretty clearly says they didn't really understand what they were doing! They would have been better off copying the shape of your wrenches, and adding their own logo.
Multi Pick is gonna see this in be like "WTF NOOB"...using words like "adequate & quite well" for a product that is clearly trying to offer a cheaper alternative to yours...I would
The "dimple lock wrench" marking on the tubular not-wrench reminds me of AI pictures with pseudo-text. The source had text on it so the copy should have text as well, never mind if it makes sense.
Definitely a knock off. They are at about half the price but if you can't use them efficiently what's the point... I remember you said something (or someone commented on your video) about making a goat wrench tubular ball design hybrid. Too bad they thought they could drop production costs by going with the same thickness of their other tools.
It's definitely a copy, but like they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. I guess it's the price you pay for designing fantastic tools, glad the ones you designed are much better.
This is probably a hot take on this issue. There's enough nuance between all lock picking tools that they have their edge cases. Saying these are identical is like saying a short hook and a medium hook are the same. They made changes, therefore, they didn't do anything wrong. They made their own version of a product. That said, did they make any positive changes? Was the concept improved? From what I saw, no, it's an inferior product. A cheap knock off that though not legally wrong, is just not good. Your tools actually offer value.
I’m not a fan of knock-offs that are blatant and cheap copies, just on general principal. Especially of new designs. I might be more sympathetic if they improved upon a design/execution AND lowered cost.
Totally copied the tubular tool, the width, thickness and fonts of the original turning tools totally. But their lack of functionality is their out. They can say their version doesn't work so how can they get done for copyright? If they were copying you then they would have made tools that worked in the locks, cheers
Yeah. The knockoffs from China, are basically the 'polymer 80' of the locksport community. Cheaper prices... & You get the pleasure of completing the work yourself.
It looks like a poor copy of a good set of tools. The only problem I see is that you’ve just told the other guys everything they need to do to make them as good as yours.
