    I wish Toyota and Nissan would make an HD. I've had a Titan XD and it was great to have a lot of features, all that power, and still have 1800+lbs of payload, but I'm talking a true HD. It's about time and it'd be nice to see some additional competition in the space.

    • @sly9263
      @sly9263 Рік тому +3

      Agreed, but of the two companies only Toyota would be in the position to do so (and they wouldn't do it anyway). The Titan is the worst selling pickup in the US and Nissan itself doesn't have a great name for many reasons, setting aside their money issues. Toyota only makes the Tundra in and for the US market as far as I'm aware and the invest for them to move into HD would be steep. A big part of the HD market is businesses and fleets, neither of which are Toyota's demographic in the US, on top of the fact that the Tundras are a bit overpriced when compared to the big 3. Toyota doesn't have nearly the build options and customization available for their vehicles either- this is less of an impact for consumer vehicles but more so when moving into HD. They make a few trim levels that have a couple minor options and that's it- you get what you get. Toyota doesn't have any diesels in the US and neither their diesel or gas V8s are anywhere close to the realm of capability that the US manufacturers have. The HD market is very competitive and saturated, so from an investment perspective it doesn't really make sense for Toyota to push into that anyway- they are smarter with their money than pretty much all other manufacturers. Toyota doesn't really take risks, which sucks sometimes, but benefits both them and their customers most of the time.

      @@sly9263 totally agree. I think this late in the game it is a real challenge. It’s a darn shame the Titan doesn’t sell better as I really enjoyed mine. That being said it is worth noting that generally speaking I feel like the HD trucks are where the domestic manufacturers have built some serious no nonsense vehicles. While not for everyone, I have a feeling that the failure rates on their HD products are probably the lowest of all their lines.

      Shacking up the HD market would be awesome especially if they can keep pricing down compared to the big3. Problem is Toyota couldn’t produce the truck alone and would need to develop the truck with another manufacture to make it happen but hopefully someone will shake it up, it needs it badly 👍🏾👍🏾

    You hit on several reasons why I always preach towing with an HD truck. To begin with, the E rated tires are at 3750lbs each and are 10 ply that will help with sway and are way safer. With an HD truck the brakes are larger, the cooling system for the engine and trans are larger, the rear diff is larger...basically everything is larger and made for safe reliable towing. Another reason is capacity. The payload on our 2500 is 3472. We don't have to worry about a thing with our camper at all and what we put in the bed or how many people are in the cab. No worries at all. What I don't like is people that own 1/2 ton pickups looking at towing capacity only. Sure their truck is rated for 8 to 9k lbs. But that's all they look at. Payload and GCWR along with rear axle ratings never enter their mind. I'm glad the manufacturers are putting in weight sensors. It might wake up a lot of people to how unsafe they are when towing their camper or whatever else. And for those that think they can't afford an HD, I call BS on that. We bought a 2022 Chevy 2500 Custom model that had 9 great options on it for 53,500. So they can be had for an affordable price.

      Bullshit you bought your truck for 53k. Maybe that was the sale price but if you financed, it definitely wasn’t the out the door price. And if you make the argument that you paid cash, you’re a bozo if you think everyone can do that. People have trouble saving 5k nowadays.

    A lot of people who have these trucks do not know that you have 2 tow haul modes for towing? One for under 5,000 pounds an one for over. If you didn’t know that then that may be your issues. I tow 30 foot tow hauler with all our camping equipment ,golf cart, side by side ,ATV’s an 4 or 5 people over all kind of mountains an does just fine. It’s no HD but I have towed this set up with HD Dodge with gas an it’s about the same. About the capacity warning they all have that same writing in all there owner’s manual. If I would tow a trailer 30 or 40 times a year an it 10,000 plus weight You would be better off HD non gas!! Of course the bigger the truck means it’s not daily driver an it would be a 2nd truck at your home, I bought in 2008 tundra an if I hadn’t lost in a flood I would not have bought a new one. I’ve got several friends who on that time period have had 3 or 4 truck purchases, you get much much bang for your buck with the tundra. I’am still out on this twin turbo , but I have a friend who has one of the first ford twin turbo’s an it a service truck tow big trailer 7 or 8 thousand pounds got 175 thousands miles on it an in 10 years zero break downs, so they must be good engine setup. Love your vids keep it up!!

    I agree Justin, If you tow a lot get a HD truck for the safety of your family and everyone around you, and do the homework on your trucks payload based on what your hauling. I see a lot of weekend campers being towed with a 1/2 ton truck obviously overloaded, and I'm pretty sure they didn't do their homework to assure a safe experience on the road,. I love that you keep pounding this home JB, so keep doing what you're doing, it could save people a lot of grief and keep people safe on the road.

      I know that 1/2 tons check a lot of boxes for comfort and size but this video opened my eyes about the axle ratings these trucks have. You literally are exceeding axles before GVWR and I know some people are going to say to use a WDH but that’s not gonna solve 300#’s of weight because the air suspension lifted the truck back up. Ultimately these trucks have a primary purpose of passenger and load carrying and this video really should sway people to look for smaller trailers if they plan on purchasing this truck. Good video. I’m actually shocked you didn’t exceed the GVWR when you exceeded the rear axle rating by that much. If that doesn’t confirm your statement that Toyota doesn’t want you towing primarily with the Tundra I don’t know what else would.
    Also just any half ton truck towing a trailer like that is not a good idea. It’s just too big. Even with a weight distribution hitch I don’t think you would have gotten back under the rear axle rating. But people will do it and it’s probably ok if you’re going on short trips and not interstate speeds. And not towing it that often.

Toyota clearly doesn’t want you to tow with this truck especially when they have a higher GVWR available for the heavier trims/Powertrain.

    It's not just Toyota, I've looked at Chevy, Ram, and Ford and none of them can tow an 8000 lb trailer with any amount of gear in the truck and stay within the specified cargo capacity. Nissan Titan XD is about the only 1/2 ton type truck that can barely qualify.

    • @JB_WhoWork

      Some of the competitors you mentioned have payloads over 1500#’s but this video shines a lot of light on axle ratings being to under rated. If a truck has payload over 1500#’s, it should have at least a 4200# axle at the minimum.
