      The current tolls are absurd as it is, can cost up to $55 just to commute from Jersey adding everything up. And it will only worsen traffic in Staten Island and the GWB since no one will be able to get to the tunnels.

      Adding in the other tolls it could cost up to $80 to commute both ways from Jersey. X 20 days/month = $1600, like paying a 2nd rent just to commute! Tolls are a scam, those bridges and tunnels and the MTA has been payed for 10x over by now.

With the tolls we pay they should have enough for the next century. Or don't give it all to the MTA, since that money does nothing to fix the subway anyway. It's a revenue scam, just like the bus lane/ speed cameras and absurdly low speed limits on highways. I like how they lowered canal street to 20 mph lol, as if you can ever exceed idle speed on that

      I think she is saying that the congestion pricing for the whole year is worth two months of her salary. So $9 x 7 days x 52 weeks = $3276 a year. And $3276 would be two months of her salary so her yearly salary would be $3276 x 6 = $19,656. That number still doesn't make sense. Some bad math skills going on here.

    • @nyct54
      @nyct54 8 годин тому

      @@starventure that’ may or may not be true , but its clear that as the years and decades go on the city continues to expand. This includes more motorists and people. Since COVID(pandemic )people started driving more to avoid being around others(understandable) . Given there are no tolls on the 59st , Manhattan, Brooklyn, Williamsburg bridges . Then you have the people whom were required to go back to work whom was working from home. It’s best to say they are also in that group of people whom are driving in. The deliveries to the countless businesses in that area adds even more vehicles. Something needs to be done to mitigate that congestion . As a bus riders it’s frustrating having to be delayed , sitting an unnecessary traffic because of all that traffic . Some times you have to sit for 5 or more lights to just get through because of the congestion, the blocking up the intersections. Everyone is trying to get by and are frustrated for sitting in traffic so that when the intersections get blocked , then you have cars turning from the third lane because they don’t want to wait, which then causes you to have to go all the way over. Atleast, it’s a reduced a bit, with an on and off peak price. People are complaining, you don’t have to drive into those areas. I hear in her case that she has to push her equipment and it’s to many different transit options for her. She lives at 60 street, she doesn’t have to park her car in the zone. She can park it a few blocks north to avoid it and just push her equipment like we see her doing. We have to improvise. We did it when the pandemic hit America.

    There are millions of people who actually live in Manhattan. So they have to pay a tax just to get home. Why should Manhattan residents be charged when people in the Bronx, or Brooklyn or Queens have no such tax on them. People don't have to pay that tax who live in Suffolk or Nassau. Only Manhattan residents are so burdened, as if they aren't also paying hidden taxes just to live in the Cit, higher prices on everything including a City sales tax and City income tax. Janno Lieber is full of it, MTA workers get free rides but he wants employers to pay the CP costs for their employees.
    This money making scheme is so shady. It’s be easier to adopt several means to raise funds for the MTA vs penalizing people for driving.
    1.) Adopt a low tax for each household. $125 x 8 million = 1 billion.
    2.) Charge tourists an entry fee of some sort. Could be $2-$5. 62 million tourists visited in 2023. That’s an easy $124 - $310 million depending on the amount of the fee.
    2.) Adopt a zone based fare. Could have a $1.50 base fare and a ¢10 increase per zone. Swipe upon entry and exit of the system.
    3.) Reduce the # of ride share vehicles on the streets. They are a major factor of congestion.
    MTA also needs to get serious in regard to their spending habits. They burn through billions like it’s going out of style.
