I drove past a local Tesla dealer the other day. And I was amazed at the pile of worn out tires in the back of the dealer service area. They eat through tires big time.
I drove past a Firestone service center and was shocked at the amount of used up tires they had scattered all over. You wouldn’t believe the amount of tires cars go through.
Thats what happens when you floor it all the time. My EV is at 100K miles and its only ever had two sets of tires. First ones lasted to 58K. My current set has at least another 30K on them.
This is still my dream car. After 200k miles and 8 years of EV ownership I am still waiting to get a Tesla and am aiming for a 2016 Model S 90D. Should be able to find one with free unlimited supercharging and it has a lot of the revisions by the 2016.5 model years to fix motor, battery, door handle, and other problems that were infamous for the first few years.
Most of us have never seen a Tesla up close. And never ever seen how it's constructed. So I love your inspection. Just to have an idea how the car works. Based on your assessment it looks like someone took out the full battery pack.
Great video guys! Man! That is unbelievable that a 10 year old car with close to 300,000 miles, that spent its whole life in the Northeast is in that good of condition. WOW! Taking the car to Tesla for a diagnostic check sounds like the way to go. I'm looking forward to the next video.
I replaced my PTC heater a couple years ago. I had to remove the passenger knee air bag, glovebox and associated items to allow the PTC heater to slide out. The wood interior trim above the glove box didnt need to be removed. I unbolted and reused the existing high voltage wires from the defective PTC so I didnt have to run the replacement wires to the DC to DC converter.
We found a shorted IGBT in the PTC heater module. Replaced the device and fitted a new 40A fuse and not had any issues. The simple fuse replacement was a challenge in the 2017S due to its location.
Wow,what an impressive video I was more than surprised that how well they are made and how well you navigated around the electrical circulty .Looking forward to the next installment.
Shows how little you know. The early Model S is proven to be extremely unreliable and poorly designed and built. Need a source to prove your pure ignorance and arrogance? Just hang out on the owner forums.
Yes you are right I know nothing about theTesla I was commenting on the remarks that Randy made about the build quality and the fact that the car has travelled nearly 300,000 miles, not bad I would say for a car thats unreliable and poorly made and built. You my friend are the ignorant and arrogant one.@@JetFire9
this tesla is in real good shape for the age and mileage. hopefully the dc to dc inventer is easy to replace. great video randy and glad mike is there. maybe send it to tesla and let them look at it.
Tesla Model S and X have a standard OBD-II port under the dash. While the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y lack a standard port, there is a connector at the base of the center console accessible from the back seat where there is access to the CAN bus.
As previously suggested, take it to Tesla for basic diagnostic, welfare inspection. So much of this vehicle is modular therefore often not extremely complicated to replace repair. Many/most modules are too complicated to home rebuild without Tesla specific vendor parts, test tools, quality values, and/or computer software upgrades. Follow every safety precaution/advice working with high voltage DC is more hazardous than AC.
This looks like newer generation of battery because you have the service cover for the DC battery fuse on the battery in the front right. Originally the fuse was on top of the battery so you had to in case to access it, remove the battery from the car. In case you're interested you can check the label from the battery, its in the front right wheel arch.
You should get those license plate border frames, they put on a car at dealerships with your UA-cam channel because that would really help promote the channel and people would know at the auction ,that they're getting a car that somebody put a lot of work into🎉
Randy you an Monkey Wrench Mike are the best team an i pretty much only watch yall along with Santa an i sure hope that Monkey gets 100k subscribers by the end of 2024 . Yall rock
Why do you think it’s the inverter? Just measure the 12V and see that it’s charging. Discinect the fan motor and test if it has voltage. Test the motor with 12V from a battery (strap it in a vice). Then ypu know… No need to throw parts on it.
Great comedy team (again) and the occasional BZZZZZT really tops it off - lolz - nice going - but really Randy, you know far more than the average Tesla guru. Thx for sharing and keep Mike on your vids - I think this is really interesting to see this Tesla with over 300k on it - and looking at the overall on it - great content
@Auto Auction Rebuilds there is the service mode you can access on the screen on the Tesla on the screen go to software then it will show the cars name Tesla model S P85 hold that for about 10-20 seconds then a box should appear then type in the box service
Great video Mike I loved it. As a preacher's kid it was funny to watch. Of course we never had vehicles like that but we had what we needed to get from point A to point B. My dad was a pastor for almost 52 years before he passed. Keep up the great work and videos.

Gloveless... eeeks! Danger!... you made a deadly mistake already. The HV system is (by design) totally isolated from the car chassis, so measuring from Chassis Ground to the HV connections means NOTHING. Only check from the HV (+) to the HV (-)... that's how to know if it's safe to work on!
My 2017 100d will hit 200K before the unlimited mile warranty runs out in two years. Nothing has been done to it, one page car fax. Things break….but let’s be honest after hitting 120k miles a little 2k in maintenance is ok. Brake jobs and a new set of tires could cost that much unless people budget shop or DIY.
Woe randy I’m l surprised how you couldn’t fix stuff so good! Hopefully you get to charge it soon too! Keep it up Randy, love the content as ALWAYS! Love that MWM is working on it too 😂 after that Nissan video
What is the heating problem with Tesla? Over 26,000 Model S, X, 3, and Y vehicles from the 2021 and 2022 model years are included in the recall. The problem is due to faulty software that can cause a valve within a heat pump to stay open, according to documents Tesla provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).Feb 9, 2022 Hi Randy, I hope that this can help you to fix the heat in your Tesla ! Enjoy
So is it the DC inverter? Guess we’ll find out once we get the results of the Tesla run diagnostic test. More importantly, what is current range of this 300 000 Tesla, and how does it compare to the original claimed range?
An inverter is a device that converts DC to AC. A DC-to-DC converter can be a boost (raise the DC voltage) or buck (reduce the DC voltage). Is there any such thing as a DC-to-DC inverter? Guess you could call a boost or buck DC converter feeding the input of an inverter that.

Randy, what is it that you attract the whiners of the world? My theory, which I think I mentioned before, is jealousy and envy. Myself, I’m happy to see your success! Peace my friend, DrRick
The scariest thing I've seen you do so far is work that inverter with bare hands and a ring on. I've seen a few guys that had their wedding ring fused to their hand because the ring touched a live wire or hot spot
Our society urgently needs to adopt a greener approach, and mobility is certainly a part of that. However, the transition to electric vehicles is currently moving too fast. The technology is not fully developed, the electricity supply is not green enough and it is financially impractical for many people. Punishing those who do not drive electric cars and making them feel guilty only creates resentment rather than compassion.

In the netherlands you pay extra for house (fire i)nsurance when owning a electric vechicle because of that an additional 170dollar more
DC to DC is converter. DC to AC is inverter.
If it’s engulfed in flames how is a fireman going to cut that loop?
If it's enhulfed in flames that loop isn't going to do anything anyway. Its really just meant to decrease fire risk after an major incident.
