  • Brentwood High School senior Haven White has achieved a remarkable milestone by self-publishing a book of poetry. “How to Feel Better” is a heartfelt collection that blends fiction and nonfiction to document the emotional journey of a teenage girl navigating the complexities of growing up in a rapidly changing world.
“I had Haven in my fall semester of Creative Writing and was blown away by her talent,” said Julie Cohen, BHS English language arts teacher. “She is a tremendous poet with a keen eye for detail and imagery.”
Through a series of dreams, musings and personal reflections, White shares the highs, lows and transformative experiences that have shaped her into the person she is today. The book is further brought to life with illustrations by fellow BHS senior Norah Woodman, whose artwork beautifully complements White’s expressive poetry.
Together, White and Woodman have created a compelling and relatable work that resonates with readers of all ages. The book also helped White accomplish her lifelong goal of being featured in the “Brentwood Authors” section of the school’s library.
“This impressive accomplishment showcases the remarkable talent and creativity of Brentwood High School students,” said Libby Wilson, BHS library media specialist. “It also serves as an inspiring example of our young people pursuing and achieving their artistic dreams.”
White will attend the University of Iowa in the fall and plans to study elementary and early childhood education. Woodman will attend the University of Central Missouri and is considering studying education or history.
"How to Feel Better” is available on Amazon.
