Josh Turner and Carson McKee with two acoustic guitars produce some of the finest live music you can watch on youtube at the moment... and I don't say that lightly. These guys are at the very top of their game.
I have to disagree with “top of their game”. These guys, along with their equally talented group of friends/collaborators, are still young. I keep watching them improve and evolve year after year with delight and amazement. I’m quite certain these fine musicians haven’t even come close to peaking yet!
There’s just something magical about this setup of two people playing and singing directly into the same microphone. Really gives you that in person feeling
I think their voices were recorded in an studio, because I can hear the sound in stereo, Josh at left and Carson at right channel. I mean, probably they used the sound of the video recording as ambiental sound but also layered with a studio recording of each voice. Or maybe it was recorded with some kind of bidirectional stereo microphone (¿?) Anyways, it's sound amazing, organic, real and very intimate. Loved it
@@LuchoRocha I think that under that furry cat wind jacket is the bidirectional Double Capsule microphone about which Josh did an unboxing video a long time ago. The two capsules are directed 90 degrees apart such that the separate right and left channels of stereo can be recorded from a "single" microphone.
Alright guys; that was just fantastic! So many things about it that I have never heard before, but love. 1) Guys singing it. 2) The harmonizing. 3) A killer bluegrass arrangement. 4) The flat-top pickin' breaks. 5) The A capella rhythmic finish. 6) the entire balance & flow. Truly well done!
Do you play guitar? If you do, you know how rare this skill is -- it's not just talent. It takes an incredible work ethic. And the vocals are world class. Our lives are enriched by you guys. Thank you.
Been listening to Josh and Carson (and their friends) for some time. They are the gold standard for music videos because WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET!! Great music and NO LIP SYNCING!!! Whether it's Take #1 or #33, what you are hearing is what you are seeing. No fancy choreography or MTV-type theatrics. Just world-class musicians sharing their talents. 649,000 subscribers seem to agree. Looking forward to seeing them get that 1,000,000th fan!! .... Wake Forest, NC
Right. Josh, Carson, Del Cid & Toni, Mary Spender. This is just good, clean, professional, honest-to-God music. No tricks, no lip sync, no auto tune. Nothin' up their sleeves. God bless 'em.
Hallelujah children, alright! You could have riffed on that back vamp all day! The opening was all right there, took me right back to Professor Gene Nichols. You have made an ole lady’s day.
I watched this video for the first time about 2 days ago. I went nuts! I'm still watching it some 10 times a day. What a wonderfull, rich and flawless version of this song that i love so much!
Linda Ronstadt rose to fame in the '70s by doing covers of hits. Her vocals and interpretations were so unique and so damn good that listeners bought the music even though they were covers. The Other Favorites' covers are every bit as unique in musicianship, arrangement, and interpretation as Linda's were nearly 50 years ago. Guys, I love your music and will show up to listen to your covers--I don't do this for any other artists on youtube.
Not only do you guys SOUND GREAT....but also you LOOK GREAT !!! Carson: sans moustache.....LOOKS GREAT Josh: with long, wild hair.....LOOKS GREAT The CORRECT, CORRECT HAIR COMPROMISE is a brilliant success !!!
Love your vids man. It all gives me hope that the younger generation are still keeping alive important musical compositions. The radio is fucking bonkers sometimes. And I’m actually all for it! There’d be no progress otherwise! I’m a pro audio engineer for the last 19 years and I work with many artists that are in the top 40s every day. It’s just that you can’t ignore whats come before IMHO and kids these days…… well, I’m starting to sound like my dad! David, keep doing what you’re doing!
Been watching you fellas for years on YT. Somehow y'all keep blowing me away. Both of you are such great musicians and when you combine powers its always special.
I love the expression on Carson's face as he savors the particularly juicy parts of Josh's guitar playing! Believe me, Carson, we viewers can relate. We feel the same way.
I put aside what I was doing and spent the last half hour watching this, over and over. What a great interpretation; there are so many musical delights here. And just a beautiful video as well, with the falling leaves and the unusual hue and saturation of the colors. Thank you, guys, once again.
You've done it again, and I love it. I'm fully convinced that you can take any soulful song, and add a touch of bluegrass to it, and it becomes your own. I mentioned on your fantastic cover of "Black Water" that you are saving an entire generation of great songs. As The Steve Miller Band said in their classic 1977 hit "Jet Airliner" (hint, hint), all you have to do is "keep on, keepin' on" whether it's you and Carson as The Other Favorites, or a group collaboration with the "fab four", you're are giving these songs a new lease on life.
Everything that comes from Josh Turner to me represents what quality is or should be! Thank you Josh for sharing your wonderful music and presentations!
That was beyond amazing -- please, please, please record that in the studio. I loved Carson's fills (no clue what the proper term is), they give the sound such a delicate depth. The a cappella finish was perfect and the harmonies were (as always) just grand. So very well done, thank you!

Oh my, this was wonderful. I was smiling all the way through and tapping my feet, I even remembered a lot of the words from back when I was a young girl! A superb choice of song to cover. Well done lads!
