  • Ascending to new heights with the Novation Peak, Himalaya is the result of an intensive sound programming project undertaken by Soundsauca.
    This is part 1, part 2 can be found here: • Novation Peak/Summit s...
    Having spent what feels like an eternity in the clouds discovering new sonic landscapes, I set about making sense of the sounds I’d made. From this you'll find beautiful analog renditions, choral pads, retro strings, ambient washes, plucks, arps and classic leads.
    More info is available on my website:

    Thanks for stopping by, I hope you like and if you do, I'd really appreciate a sub here or a thumbs up there!
    Recording:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Recorded at 48khz, -6dB (Peak Setting) into Logic Pro-X via an RME UFX. Peak volume knob at 12 O'clock. Fades are used to transition between sounds, but the sounds are pure Peak. No compressors, limiters or EQ were harmed in the making of this demo;) 2 sounds feature my Roland TR-8s underneath for a bit of fun.
    I assume that these will also be compatible with a Novation Summit, but I have no access to one so I cannot confirm.

    If you make VST patches I nominate Vital. It is the best software synth I've heard in recent years and completely free! Double filters including comb filters and wavetables like classic Waldorf synths. Amazing for pads and atmospheres. Would insta buy.

      @Soundsauca  2 роки тому +2

      Hi alan. Yes I do have Vital. I confess I haven't played much with it - too many synths not enough time! I'll certainly keep that in mind though for the future. Thanks a lot.

    Ich bin leider kein Profi und frage mich, wie man vorgeht um sowas zu produzieren. Mit Ableton (oder anderer DAW)? Wievielte Tracks braucht man. Der Synth kann doch bestimmt immer nur einen ganz begrenzten einzelnen Sound? Ist dann eine Drum-Maschine dabei?
    Wenn man viele Spuren hat - wie fängt man an? Erst die Pad Sounds, die Drums, die Melodie? Gibt es Hilfe, um sowas zu lernen? Was macht man, wenn man mit einem Sound anfängt und dann etwas anderes einspielt (und daher die Einstellungen ändert) und später merkt, dass man noch etwas mit dem vorherigen Sound benötigt?
    Den Synth und die Presets kann man kaufen aber damit fängt es ja erst an ... Hut ab vor den tollen Sound-Beispielen. Leider ist kein "making of" dabei. ;-)

      Hello! Thanks for your message. I think there's some misunderstanding in what Soundsauca is. The video presentation is just that, a showcase of the sounds created using a visual platform to add interest. To help you a little though, all sounds are played/sequenced one by one - I don't have multiple Peak synths! The decisions made on order, how they flow together is made as I create it. There's often times where I scrap entire sections, re-record pieces, change orders and so on. It's a very organic process based upon whether the sounds work together or not. I've even got near the end and gone back to the beginning. Is that efficient? no! But I enjoyed making them! The main thing to know is that each sound was recorded, as is with no addition effects or processing. I hope that helps!

    Inspiring sounds. I love the creativity. I am debating between the Summit and the System 8, which you also made a patch directory for. Which ever one I choose, I'll be getting one of your downloads, for sure.

    • @Soundsauca
      @Soundsauca  2 роки тому +2

      Hi @MACRO. It's a tough one. I really like both! The System-8 naturally has that Roland sound down really good with so many plug-outs and algorithms. The Peak/Summit can get pretty close to many of these but does have its own character too which goes to so many different places. Roland has more bite, Peak has more bottom end. It really depends on what you're after. Both are excellent choices though!

    • @macro1748
      @macro1748 2 роки тому

      @@Soundsauca It is a hard choice. The Summit may have the edge as a pure keyboard, having 61 keys, with after touch. However, the System 8 is like a big old log fire at Christmas. WARM!

    I wrote a review of Novation's Summit when it was released, considered it to be a good synth but nothing I would put in my studio. Now I've just bought the Peak simply because of your soundset. Amazing work, @Soundsauca! I am really looking forward for your announced next one, coving the dark and dirty side of Peak/Summit!

      Hey Michael! Thanks v much for your message of support. Wow! I hope it didn't disappoint - I've had a few that are never happy regardless of how much I try!
      Mariana - (working title), there's even a small snippet on Soundcloud... More than enough material here to release but it got parked last summer and I need to complete it. The only thing missing... Self belief, I'm working on getting that one back but it's a slow road. I promised myself I'd never do this and cash in. It has to be right, so until then, thank you:)

    • @michaelous
      @michaelous 2 роки тому +1

      @@Soundsauca I saw and commented the snippet on SC. Great potential, I am looking forward and would buy it!
      Of course there will always be someone left disappointed. It's a fact you have to cope to when dealing with customers. But why not take money for your work? It's good and I'd say in about the same league as the great names in sound design who work for the synthesiser companies. I've just checked Himalaya on my peak and it sounds as great even without the wonderful animations and your nice playing. Already gave me an idea for a new track - what could I expect more?
      So keep on the good work!

    Well I was already thinking I'd like to get a Peak and this had really helped seal my decision, absolutely gorgeous sounds. But then I found your website and started checking out other sets, like the Argon8 and Cobalt8. Now I really don't know what to do, lol.

    • @Soundsauca
      @Soundsauca  6 місяців тому +1

      I hear you! it's tough to decide. It depends on your preferences. In terms of pure synthesis I would choose the Peak over the Modals. Don't get me wrong they're great synths but Peak is overall a much better synth (and costs accordingly). The caveat would be for pure wavetables where I'd say Argon is better at that sound, but Peak does have them, they just don't sound quite the same. Analog quality Peak vs Cobalt. Peak all day long IMHO:)

    • @rhythmace1
      @rhythmace1 6 місяців тому

      @@Soundsauca Thanks, that makes sense. It does sound like the Peak would be the best choice for me. Of course, I could get an Argon AND a Cobalt for rather less than a Peak! I think when it comes down to it though the Peak will win out if only for the fact it seems like it has more of a traditional, hands-on operation, whereas the Modals, while I'm sure they have a well thought-out control system, seem like they might be a bit more display-led, and the whole point of me buying hardware is to add as many modeless knobs and buttons into my tweaking life as possible!
      That does lead to me to something I was already thinking of asking: do you have a favourite synth to program (not necessarily for the resulting sounds)?

    • @Soundsauca
      @Soundsauca  6 місяців тому

      To me the Peak is near as damn it perfect for hands on control. My System-1, whilst no match for Peak is an example of the original “Roland” panel paradigm, which Novation developed upon. Not all features are hands on with Peak, but the crucial ones for sculpting, learning etc are all there. When menu diving is needed, Peak is very logical. Modal’s UX is slightly more novel but hasn’t got the feel Peak has.

    • @rhythmace1
      @rhythmace1 6 місяців тому +1

      @@Soundsauca Good to hear your overall impression, and your description matches the impression I've got from watching Peak videos, I really feel like I will have a good handle on how to program it without too much menu diving (and none particularly deep) or having to hold too much configuration in my head at once. I got burned in my first period of doing music years ago when my first synth was a Korg Prophecy, that was a nightmare! So this time round and for my 2nd hardware synth, I want to make sure I get something really intuitive!
      Assuming I don't change my mind before I get the money together I'll definitely be buying this set, I'm still listening and it's so rich and inspiring.

    • @Soundsauca
      @Soundsauca  6 місяців тому +1

      Ah thanks a lot! It sounds like Peak is a good fit for you. I mean it's my go to "analog" sounding machine really. I've got a few others but it's by far my most versatile. Yes Prophecy is not a great synth to start out on. I've never owned one, although I have the Korg Collection and have fiddled a bit with it.

      Buying synths for me is an investment as I use them on professional basis. The Summit is on of my best investments since my Virus TI. To give you an idea, my Waldorf Iridium even didn't last 2 hours in my studio...

    • @Soundsauca
      @Soundsauca  Рік тому

      @@sK3LeTvM1 Can't argue with that. Whilst I'm far from pro, I view synths like these as instruments with individual personalities.
      Never touched an Iridium so the gas is there to always try any synth I've never played. Your opinion is interesting. I've got the feeling Iridium requires a big time investment and may not suit everyone.
