I absolutely love these ranking videos. Incredibly well done. And I'll just add that the 2009 reboot is easily my favorite of this entire franchise. The prologue is some of the best straight-up slasher cinema that I've ever witnessed.
Best part about Part 6 is the director Tom McLoughlin. He just wanted to have fun with it and make a movie that the fans would have fun with too and it shows
@@corymiller536 I don’t think so. We remember all the final girls. We remember Shelley from part 3. Tommy from part 4-6. Even the minor characters that die by Jason are more like able than any of the characters in the remake. It’s almost as if they tried to make the characters in 2009 annoying and unlikeable. It’s a matter of opinion…or taste really.
I think the Friday the 13th remake is cool because it combines his evolution from 1 to 3 so you get a lot of Jason in there with some other fun tropes of the series.
Glad to see part 3 get some props! I had never seen any of the movies and decided to marathon parts 1-3 this Halloween season. I think I actually liked #2 the best, though, because I actually felt myself caring for some of the characters and thought it was awesome that the girl outsmarted him towards the end. Still, I agreed with everything you said about part 3. I think next Halloween season I'll have to watch 4-6, and Freddy vs. Jason. (By the way, your Freddy ranking video convinced me to watch movies 1, 3, and new nightmare, and I loved them all!)
Really appreciate the care and detail you put in to these. If you do this again next October, I think Final Destination would be interesting. The increasingly Rube Goldberg death sequences, the contrivances of the opening death avoidance…it was a franchise that seemed a little one trick pony at first, but actually proved to be somewhat sustainable.
Kane Hodder is one of the nicest people I've ever met at a convention. So humble, so kind, so generous with his time and thoughts. He's a lovely human being.
I would love to see you do a James Bond ranking at somepoint in the future- to see how you rank the Craig movies against the Connery and Moore installments
Jason X is one of my favourite in the series. Silly premise, great kills, likeable characters, even a good guy character that also seems to be unkillable. Basically everything I want in a Friday the 13th movie. I also hold the opinion that Jason Goes to Hell is a decent horror movie that suffers from trying to be a Friday the 13th movie. I really enjoyed the 2009 reboot too. My most unpopular opinion, I think, is that the original Friday the 13th is a boring slog of a movie that I barely made it through with an ending I didn't buy at all.
You all must be kids. lol. Jason x isn’t a Friday the 13th movie. It’s not. It just has Jason in it. And barely. Even Jason goes to hell. The only thing Friday the 13th in it is Kane hodder. lol

Finally! Someone who loves Part 3D as much as I do. It’s a great, cozy film. I love the farm setting. And #1 isn’t surprising either. Part 6 is top two for me as well, Dan.
I can confirm that Derek Mears is a great guy! I met him at a horror con years ago, and he was so enthusiastic to talk with everyone! He also gave photo ops free with an autograph! Definitely make time for him if you’re ever at a Con that he’s attending. Also, F13 reboot was pretty good, especially compared to the farces that directly preceded it.
These ranking videos are awesome, Dan - keep up the great work! If I had to rank the films in the franchise, mine would look a little something like this: 1. JASON LIVES 2. THE FINAL CHAPTER 3. 2009 Remake 4. Part 3-D 5. Part 2 6. Original 7. FREDDY VS. JASON 8. Part 7: THE NEW BLOOD 9. X 10. Part 5: A NEW BEGINNING 11. Part 8: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN 12. JASON GOES TO HELL
Glad to see Part 3 ranked so high, it's in my top 3 as well. Some memorable characters, there's humor to go with the kills and Chris is far and away the prettiest final girl in the series. Part 3 also has one of the creepiest moments in the whole franchise, at the end when Chris is out in the canoe and she looks up and sees Jason looking at her through a window
My top 5 ranking: 1. Friday the 13th Part 2. The best in the franchise. It includes Jason as murderer, counselors and the mystery around Camp Blood. The movie includes many surprises that makes it less predictable than other movies in this franchise. 2. Friday the 13th Part 4. This is the best true Friday the 13th movie (Jason with Hockey mask). It's scary and has many nice kills in it. 3. Friday the 13th Part 3. Classical Friday the 13th horror with a great ending. 4. Friday the 13th (1980). I would rank this higher if Jason was the killer. 5. Friday the 13th part 5. The last good Friday the 13th movie. A lot of people may dislike this movie because it isn't Jason who is the killer. But I think that was the only logical step from part 4 and it makes the movie more similar to a Giallo than a slasher movie. I like the humor and I think that the two hillbillies are quite funny.
My favourite thing about 2009 remake is that it was produced my Micheal Bay and he left the screening of the movie complaining that it had way too much nudity and sex. Now that's the height of irony coming from him.
I’m glad you had the 2009 film so high on your list! It was the first horror film I saw in theaters and was shocked to find out that it was so thoroughly disliked by the fandom.
I think most people have it at least near the middle of the list. For what it’s worth, it’s better than the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake by the same director, which is a very controversial take.

Enjoyed your ranking. I grew up watching this series and it's always cool and intriguing to hear what someone who watched most of the series as an adult, thinks. I enjoy the remake more than I use to. I think I criticized it at first cause it felt like a few other horror films that came out during that time, but that can be said of the original films as well. I love your attention to details Dan 😂 the property damage count was awesome. Love the ranking! Didn’t watch any of these movies since horror movies aren’t for me but always like to know the story so I enjoyed knowing what each of them was about.
Man, Friday the 13th VII doesn't get nearly enough love. I'll never understand why people seem to take some issue with the fact that the main girl is psychic, when Jason is just a walking undead monster by now. The movie at least goes for something a little bit different by adding a separate supernatural angle for someone to fight Jason with. I also think Jason's look in VII is the best it ever is in the series. The ragged clothes, exposed spine, and chain around his neck, along with Kane Hodder's performance makes it by far the most intimidating Jason has ever been. I feel like putting it along sides VIII, IX and X, and so much further up than the reboot, is a massive insult to that movie.
Couldn't disagree more. Part 7 is where the series took a nose-dive and never recovered. The story was bad and the telekinesis aspect was horrendously dumb. My god, the ending with the dad that's apparently been right under the dock for a decade, come on. Hodder was slow and boring AF. The heavy breathing and over-acting was laughable. In part 7 Jason basically turned into "Big Ben" from House. 7-10 are the worst films of the series. They look and feel like they took about a day and a half tp make from start to finish. Ted White was the best Jason followed by Brooker and Mears.
Jason Lives is without question the best. I would not put the remake or Fred V J quite as high up on the list, but your opinions are fun. Keep up these lists Dan 👍
Dan, you’re a lovely person for putting yourself through this. I recently caught the last ones I’d avoided and they weren’t even high school film class quality. Movies like Jason X reek of the contempt and laziness of disinterested out of work film types who needed a paycheck
I can't believe you watched all of these movies and did a countdown. Thank you for the video and the hard work that went into it. I've met Betsy Palmer, Tom Savini, and Kane Hodder, and they were nice to me. I don't think I ever want to watch a Friday the 13th movie though, so this will be as close as it gets to watching one.
@@NotMorganFreeman. Yes, you would think that I would have seen at least one of the movies all the way through. When I was working as a bagger in a supermarket, I bagged for Betsy Palmer once. She said she had been an actor all of her life but I probably knew her as Jason's mother. When I went to a Fangoria convention, I met Kane Hodder and then I met him again at a pumpkin patch event, and then I met Tom Savini at a Fangoria convention. I never told any of them that I haven't seen a Friday the 13th movie. I think I've seen parts of the movies, but never all the way through. There was another young actor who played Jason that I met at a Fangoria convention but I forgot his name. I worked for free at a couple of Fangoria conventions. It was a lot of fun. Tom Savini actually said I could work with him for free and if I did a good enough job for him he would hire me, but I couldn't figure out a way to live in Pennsylvania with no money so unfortunately, I couldn't take him up on his offer. I was this close. This close. I even asked if I could live in the attic of his shop until I got hired. Urg! It was years and years ago. Thinking back on it, he probably knew I couldn't take him up on his offer and was just being nice, but it was a nice dream to live through as it was. 😀
Love these rankings videos, my ranking is different but oh well, (my favourite is 7 the new blood and 4 the final chapter) hope you do the Halloween series even though only the first one is good.

Nah, nah. Jason X is near the top. Not only is it the best standalone title. It introduced Uber Jason. Which was the first post-1999 cinematic use of the term Uber to denote a hyper upgraded version of something. Can you even imagine somewhere out there Jason is killing aliens and predators teens trying to breed.
Those first 8 movies are so fun and the 2009 one is super fun too. I didn't care for Jason X, I thought it was too corny and I haven't seen Jason Goes to Hell. My sister and I saw the first five when we were young, it's probably the first horror franchise I ever watched, my sister and I used to recreate scenes and we still quote certain parts to this day.
Jason Lives is great because of many things, but I want to point out that it might be the only movie in the franchise that actually has somewhat of an action hero character in the lead. Tommy Jarvis is just kinda iconic in this movie, no wonder they brought him back as a special character for the videogame.
1) Friday The 13th 2) Friday The 13th (2009) 3) Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter 4) Friday The 13th: Part 2 5) Friday The 13th: Part 3 6) Friday The 13th: Part VI - Jason Lives 7) Friday The 13th: Part VII - The New Blood 8) Friday The 13th: Part VIII - Jason Takes Manhattan 9) Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning 10) Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday 11) Jason X
Fantastic stuff as usual! My ranking aligns pretty closely with one major difference: The 3rd movie is middle / low for me. It feels like it should be really good, but the shoddy forced 3d / low budget combined with an almost entirely unlikable cast, makes it one I don't ever enjoy as much as I'd like to. Even still, it's leagues above the likes of Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, Jason Takes Manhattan, & Friday part V. Aside from that, I wholeheartedly agree with the love for VI, IV, & the remake! Those are probably my top 3. Honorable mention to part II, FvJ, & the original too, then a pretty substantial dropoff (just as Dan says). Am I being foolishly optimistic to hope that we might have a Halloween film ranking video coming? Would love that!! Either way thanks for the great stuff!
Hey Dan I love watching this one and keep doing it for entertainment value. Love it. Especially the doors and windows count. Genius! Anyway I just wanted to check in to see if you were affected by the hurricane? I don't know if you live in Tallahassee as well but if you do then you probably were. Anyway hang in there and let us know how you're doing. Nick from Portland Oregon Portland Oregon
I want to back you up and say that the 2009 remake is one I like a lot, too. I watched it back to back with the original and definitely liked this one better. Still need to see some of the others. But I wanted to say that I support this high ranking.
Friday the 13th the Final Chapter is like my favorite non-supernatural 80s slasher, and I hate part 3, so this kinda hurts. Like the characters/acting are pretty good, and the kills are among the best deaths in horror cinema. Part 3 is so boring with some of the worst characters. The kills are pretty good, but it’s not as good as most of the early installments.
Soooo, Red Letter Media collab when?? They put out a set of vids all about the Ft13th sequels, and it seems like Dan and them could have a pretty good Convo about these, and tons of other stuff
Yeah I thought the characters were way more likeable, Clay was a good protagonist and I liked Jason kidnapping his sister because he looks like his mom
Jason Mears does such a good job playing an interesting and different version of the character. It makes sense that he would be this kind of survivalist. Also, The opening of the film is probably the greatest Friday the 13th movie of all time. It’s legitimately terrifying.
As far as the Friday the 13th 2009, I think 🤔 people just hate the 00's so much with a passion, That they hate everything that came from that era, even if some movie's where kind of decent

My top faves are 2 and 1. Part 2 was the first I got to see in a crowded movie theater and it was a romp. The guy that got pierced with his girl went on to cab driver in Dressed to Kill and then writer for NY Daily News. I saw 3 in a dilapidated grand theater on 42nd Street in Times Square. I recall the dank, echoey setting more than the movie during the 3D revival era. Part 6 actor in the camper having sex is Travolta's nephew. Happy Halloween 🎃
That theme park ride video comparison for Jason X is so spot on it blew my mind.
It also looks like Alien Resurrection, although I actually enjoy that movie

Part 4 is pretty good. It does have some amazing work from Savini as well.
"Frozen Face Smash" sounds like a Cannibal Corpse song 🤘
My personal absolute favourites are Part 2 & Final Chapter
I'm recovering from COVID. This was a nice distraction. Thank you Dan!
Love these rankings videos, my ranking is different but oh well, (my favourite is 7 the new blood and 4 the final chapter) hope you do the Halloween series even though only the first one is good.
These have become my fav videos you do
Great ranking. Thank you.
Why not have the uncensored version on youtube for members only? Seems like a better way to me
I don’t currently run a membership through UA-cam - maybe in the future!
the best kill has to be the UA-cam logo lol
I'm surprised when you talked about the sleeping bag kill in 7 that you didn't mention it was so great that they copied it in Jason X.
Dude yes I love these
My Ranking
1- Friday the 13th
2- Friday the 13th 7
3- Jason lives
4- Friday the 13th 2
5- Friday the 13th 4
6- Friday the 13th 3
7- The Remake
8- Friday the 13th 8
9- Jason X
10- Friday the 13th 5
11- Jason goes to hell
Great Video! And not just because I’ve literally never in my life heard my name said out loud so many times in 45 minutes.
Love these ranking videos Dan! Have you thought about putting these lists on Letterboxd?
I dig Freddy vs Jason too. It’s one of those things you wouldn’t see today.
3 is my personal fave🎃
Those first 8 movies are so fun and the 2009 one is super fun too. I didn't care for Jason X, I thought it was too corny and I haven't seen Jason Goes to Hell. My sister and I saw the first five when we were young, it's probably the first horror franchise I ever watched, my sister and I used to recreate scenes and we still quote certain parts to this day.
This is my all time favourite horror franchise glad to see you give it some love
Thank you, for this video!
I've never seen a single one of these movies in full, but I'm definitely watching this video!
great list you have to do this more
I love doing these! They take a lot of time for not a lot of viewership (yet) but I’m definitely going to keep doing them now and then
Great list! 3 is my personal favorite, but 6 is great too, and having 3 in the two spot is highly respectable!
Jason Lives is great because of many things, but I want to point out that it might be the only movie in the franchise that actually has somewhat of an action hero character in the lead. Tommy Jarvis is just kinda iconic in this movie, no wonder they brought him back as a special character for the videogame.
1) Friday The 13th
2) Friday The 13th (2009)
3) Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter
4) Friday The 13th: Part 2
5) Friday The 13th: Part 3
6) Friday The 13th: Part VI - Jason Lives
7) Friday The 13th: Part VII - The New Blood
8) Friday The 13th: Part VIII - Jason Takes Manhattan
9) Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning
10) Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday
11) Jason X
Fantastic stuff as usual! My ranking aligns pretty closely with one major difference:
The 3rd movie is middle / low for me.
You mean you don't like annoying Shelly, the goofy stoner couple and the worst hollywood bikers ever lol
Soooo, Red Letter Media collab when?? They put out a set of vids all about the Ft13th sequels, and it seems like Dan and them could have a pretty good Convo about these, and tons of other stuff
I know its your own list but damn ..both Jason Goes To Hell & Jason Takes Manhattan over Jason X ?
Jason X is waaaaay better than last on the list
I love the 2009 remake tbh
It's probably my favorite one. I definitely didn't feel that way when I first watched it in 2009, but I watched it again years later and loved it.
Would be cool if you also ranked Jason character designs!
Yup Yup Jason Lives is by far my favorite! Homage to classic monster movies! Great list Dan!
Great video! I agree with you 100% with the 2009 Friday the 13th
Thanks for this video! Love Jason so much!
So great! Thank you!
As far as the Friday the 13th 2009, I think 🤔 people just hate the 00's so much with a passion, That they hate everything that came from that era, even if some movie's where kind of decent
Jason Lives is definitely the best movie of them all, but 3 and 4 are pretty awesome too.
2 is the best film in the series. Best setting. Likeable cast. Great final girl. Introduction of Jason.
More horror movie franchise rankings please!
I wanted to do a couple more this year but ran out of time. Next Halloween!
Love the song you used for the Crispin Glover dance scene.

Wow I actually requested you would do more of these on the last video! Christmas came early!
One of the greatest crimes in horror films was that they never got Kane Hodder in Freddy vs Jason.
Agreed. I couldn't believe it.
Couldn't disagree more, Hodder is a bottom 2 Jason and criminally overrated.
