I think some of them just go around looking for things to be offended by so they can whine about it. 😠
Mel said in his Playboy interview that he had to include the fart scene because in all the cowboy movies, they are all sitting around eating beans and no one ever farts. He had to do it!
In the silent and short clip of the Farting scene shown here at the end, you can see the cowboy on the far left suppressing a smile as the cowboy on the far right rises from squatting to break wind and start the ball rolling…
And dem' was some damn fast acting beans, too. If I could get a couple tons of beans that gassy I'd convert my car to run on methane. I'd save a fortune, and as long as I was downwind of where ever I parked, I'd be able to just follow my nose when looking for it in a parking lot. Then again, I just might not care where I left the stinking thing.
This was the first movie I ever went to unsupervised by my parents. What amazes me was back in the 70s I was far from being able to go to a movie of this kind with this content without parental guidance. It was a group of friends from school that went to the Odeon theater in my town to watch it. To this day I watch every time I see it come on TV. 😊👍
My future husband and I saw this movie on our first real date, 48 years ago. We loved it then, and it is still one of our favorite movies. We recently introduced it to our beloved niece and her husband, and hope that someday they will introduce it to their daughter and any other children they'll have.
Mel made the funniest movies ever. He was not only a brilliant writer but he knew who could really deliver the characters he created. Blazing Saddles was a movie I watched at least 5 times in a row just to hear all the stuff I missed by laughing so hard. The camp fire fart scene was totally amazing. Thanks, Mel!

The true genius behind Mel Brooks and "Blazing Saddles" was that he dragged racism out of the back, threw it on the ground and stomped it to death with wit and laughter. One of my favorite movies of all times but am so sad that when shown on TV now the politically correct crowd is responsible for censoring some of the funniest things. I remember reading that the cast as a whole didn't want to say the "n-word" and Clevon Little and Richard Pryor had to convince them that it was okay because of the satirical nature of the film.
Cannot agree more. Brooks made fun of every one, every thing, every way possible. Cleavon Little "Where da white women at??" was priceless!! Just funny from start to finish.

Mel Brooks is a hero, from WWII to comedy, every part of his life is inspiring. I can’t pick a favorite out of his works, but quote them all quite often.
I can never quite decide which is funnier: "Blazing Saddles" or "Young Frankenstein" (Werewolf? There wolf…" And of course, "He was my BOYFRIEND!"). But then again, "Springtime for Hitler" may just tip the scales in favor of "The Producers"…

I hope he succeeds. I don't think we'll ever see such comedy genius again. I didn't know he collaborated with Buck Henry on writing for the Get Smart TV show, one of my favorites along with The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres. Glad you explained the use of the N word with Richard Pryor's help.

Thank you for recognizing this movie. It is in my top five favorites. It even made my most uptight aunt laugh, so its got to be outrageous! Thanks Mel and Company!
Mel Brooks is a legend. One of the best directors in Hollywood. His birth name was Ivan Kaminski, and he was a corporal in the US Army engineers, where his job was to deactivate enemy mines.
Combat engineers , back in the day , would get on their hands and knees and probe the ground with trench knives looking for buried land mines. They didn’t have the magnetic detectors we think of . One wrong move and you’re done. Amazing courage.
@@brianjones7660 WRONG. They DID have mine detectors, SCR-625's to be specific. They used bayonets to dig up the mines, but they'd find them with mine detectors. They only had to rely solely on bayonets when trying to find mines that used wooden boxes in later years, and that was rare, because once a minefield was discovered, they'd go around it.
Work work work work work work work ... Hello boys I miss you and too many bother great lines from Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. 2 of my all time favorite movies. Thank you to all the cast members for more than 40 years of memories ❤

My favorite line? Sheriff Bart goes into Lilly's dressing room after having seen her onstage performance. She, of course, is secretly acting as Hedley's agent. She is suppose to seduce the sheriff. After 'slipping into something more comfowtable" she inquires of Bart, "Tell me Sherwiff, is it twue what they say?" The lights dim to darkness. The sound of a zipper is heard. Lily exhalts, "It's twue! It's Twue!! Fade to the following morning. Tears me up every time. I'll never forget when and where I first saw this film. I was going through basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Tx. I was in my forth or fifth week of training. That Saturday afternoon was the first time my flight had been given leave of the squadron. We were allowed to go anywhere as long as we remained on base, and out of the Airman's Club. Another trainee and I decided we might as well spend the afternoon at the base movie theatre since we couldn't drink beer. When we entered neither of us had any idea of what we were about to experience. The marque outside only had the title of the movie. We figured it was just another dumb-ass western, but we were there with nowhere else to go, so in we went. I sat there as the opening scene of a railroad being built began to play. I recognized almost immediately this was not going to be just another dumb-ass western, yet I had no idea what was to come. I can tell you this much, when the movie concluded my buddy and I walked out exhausted, our cheeks stained with tears from having laughed harder than either of us previously though possible. I count this one moment as one of the greatest of my entire life. Thank you Mel, Clevon, Gene, Harvey, Madeleine, Slim, all the other players, and any who had a hand in the creation of this classic comedic expression. This is something special created by those who were beyond special. P'S. Another classic from the genius of Mel Brooks, one that never garnered the attention it deserved, is "Dracula: Dead and Loving It." If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor, and do so it.. It is as good as 'Blazing Saddles." Had it been released before this film it would have gotten as much or maybe more praise. It really is that good.
In that scene Cleavon had a line that he was supposed to say after Madeleine's "Is it twue what they say?" That line was "Pardon me, ma'am. But you're sucking on my elbow." Mel Brookes originally went for it but realised that for the times even it was way over the top so it was removed; a pity as it is very clever slapstick

There are lines in Blazing Saddles that were so funny that only those in the audience knew yiddish could laugh at. I am laughing as I write these lines. The indian chief saying (in yiddish of course) "Are you crazy? Their blacker than us...Let them go!" and more LOL.

The western brawl busting down the wall to the set of the musical directed by Dom Deluise (another comedy legend in Blazing Saddles who was unfortunately overlooked in this "then and now" video) was the exclamation point in laughter no one saw coming.
It was a masterpiece of a scene. The "Strike up a Pose, Stick out your Tush" song was a clever adaptation of the movie theme tune, and it only took me a few decades to make that connection. Layers upon layers upon layers.
Nobody will ever be able to remake it without someone else crying that they're offended by everything in it. Same thing with all of the Marx Brothers movies.

The first time that I ever saw this movie , was when my old Elementary School showed it to us !! ( It was a " Goodbye Gift " for those of us whom were finishing Sixth Grade , and going to go on to Junior High !! )
I saw this film at Crawley cinema in the UK when it came out and I laughed so much that the cinema manager actually asked me to leave the cinema as my (almost crying) laughter was stopping others from hearing the lines. But within 20 minutes EVERYONE was crying with laughter. The absolute funniest film I have ever seen.
Great director and a funny guy but there were so many that were just as funny. Peter Sellers. Richard Pryor. Don Rickles. Jonathon Winters. John Ritter. John Belushi
Yes, Mel is a great comic, but not the best. That title goes to Don Knotts. Loved him on the Andy Griffith show. Loved him in, ' Shakiest gun in the west'.
Gene Wilder was my Hero. My favorite actor as a kid. I watched Young Frankenstein so many times by the time I was a teen I knew every line. And that's saying something since there were no VHs, dvd or streaming devices. I had to wait for it to come on TV and I would make SURE I was home to watch it. Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs, were close 2nds. But I also loved Willy Wonka and watched IT every time it came out. We had the best childhood
"Blazing Saddles" is my all time favorite Mel Brooks movie. Along with - "Young Frankenstein (Fronk-an-steen)", "History of the World, Part 1", "High Anxiety", and "Space Balls."
Mel wasn’t the only one who created this movie but Richard Pryor as well. Cleavon Little was a master of his craft and it was the other way around. Cleavon helped Gene with comedic antics.
Madeline Kahn actually went out of her way to get fired from a stage production, so she could do Blazing Saddles. Seems like a good move now.😉👍 Her part in History of the World Part I was also hysterically funny. Her as the empress married to Dom Delouse was awesome.
As a teenager, I had just come out of surgery, my mother was hovering over my bed (military hospital) She asked, "Are we awake?" Even in my haze coming out of anesthesia, I remember answering her. "We're not sure, are we black?"" She responded "yes we are", I finished with "Then we're awake" LOL, the hospital staff were highly confused. Best movie ever!
It always amazes me how a small group of people, namely the Jewish people, can contribute so much in every field, arts, science, mathematics, philosophy.... I am a fan, a gentile fan.
I would say Stanley Kubrick was the greatest Jewish film director. As much as I admire Mel’s fine work I would probably say that George Cukor, Woody Allen, Billy Wilder, William Wyler, Ernst Lubitsch and Roman Polanski were better directors.
@@prp3231 it’s not just our contributions but also our survival. Through the 3,500 year history of the Jewish people they were many times decimated, ostracized, forced to convert and exiled. All Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder productions are the best!! I saw Gilda Radner at the Winter Garden Theater in NYC before she died, and Guido Sarducci was her opening act. Best live solo show I've ever seen. RIP Gilda, you are missed!!

In1974 I was a teen living in Ontario, California. A friend told me there was an afternoon showing of a test film to gage audience response. It was free. Had to fill out a questionaire. Film was Blazing Saddles
The film is the funnies I've ever seen. I can watch it over and over again and not get bored with it. It's comedy that you'll never see again. The days were people didn't take things too seriously and saw it as friendly fire. No oohs, are's or can't say that. I have many mates, Male & Female from the 60s - 80s of different race and backgrounds. Who have seen this film, whom laughed and watch it many times. Let's lighten up people and enjoy life.
Fun fact - behind the scenes (pun intended), Warner Brothers were a tad nervous about really offending, well, anyone really, so they had post-movie attitude researchers interviewing cinemagoers at the end of each screening in various other countries. So, one question the researchers asked us here (Dublin) was how offended were we with the way us Irish were portrayed (c'mon - you KNOW which line I'm referring to)? Typically everyone just laughed and more-or-less said it was badge of honour to be mentioned in such a gem [still is]. Along with their other findings, Warners discovered that some of us actually DO have a sense of humour (a necessary part of self-awareness - the ability to laugh at ourselves - just ask Americas last 'president' [small 'p' on purpose there]) and still do/always will - despite the best efforts of the MEEBs (Mind Everyone Elses Businessers) and their Thought Police. "OK, we'll take the Ns and the Cs - BUT WE DON'T WANT THE IRISH...."
So what about the president we have now? I say he doesn’t deserve the privilege of having even a lower case “p”. He’s just a resident in the White House.
Laughing at one's self is one thing... taking pot shots at others is another... another aspect of self awareness is being aware that NOT everyone agrees with one's political perspective...that president DIDN'T get us s involved any new wars and DIDN'T expand the one we were in. Our employment rate rose dramatically for all groups and so did pay...for the first time in years. Talking smack about another country's leaders kind of the invites them to do the same... something to consider. Are you actually saying you feel a lot more secure about the present situation?? Or do you imagine expensive fuel and fertilizer won't effect Ireland? Do you suppose Irish troops won't be involved if one of Putin's bombs happens to land an inch into Poland?? 🙄🤔

Just watched this masterpiece again after probably 30 years. I watched it with my teenage son to show him how bad things have gotten in terms of free speech and how people have forgotten to laugh at themselves. He thought the movie was rather slow and not that funny. But I guess that was more an indictment of the comedy of its era, because for me, the first time I saw it, I died laughing. There was nothing like it before.
I think younger people are used to faster editing. I loved Jerry Lewis in The Nutty Professor... hadn't seen it in decades.. rented it and watched it.. but it was now sooooo slow.. parts unfunny.. I couldn't watch the whole thing.. strange
Yeah, the speed of films is really a problem for younger people, and it comes up all the time. Take Star Wars. We thought it was a great action movie, but that scene where Kenobi tells Luke about the force is utterly boring to kids today, as it is too slow for their taste. I'll watch an Avengers movie, and there is almost no story or exposition, and I'm like, "What the fuck am I watching?" I realize I sound like Bosley Crowther talking about the Beatles in A Hard Day's Night, but does the movie have to rape my eyes for two hours?
Blazing Saddles is a movie I've watched incessantly since a little kid on VHS. It introduced me to comedy greats. Mel Brooks is truly a comedic genius and his body of work is downright hilarious.
I can't count how many times I have watched this movie , I even hunted down the deleted scenes of how sheriff Bart captures mongo .I agree that this movie took racism and drug it through the mud . This movie shows if you can laugh at something you take away its power to hurt.
I showed this in DVD to a 90 year old close friend and she laughed through the whole movie. We would still repeat Madeline Kahn song lyric of "coming and going and coming and all to soon", every time we would hear from anyone saying coming or going. One of would sing the lyrics from the song and have a good laugh. We laughed together every time we were together. She been gone now for 3 years honestly I haven't enjoyed anyone's accompaniment since. Missing you Peg.
Well, to be fair, it's quite obvious that she posed for the picture, and I can only assume that she fully expected that the public would see it. It's not like someone hid in the bushes and waited for her to come out and get her mail.
I worked with a guy for a number of years, and I swear we quoted Blazing Saddles daily. It just never gets old!!!

They couldn't make any of his movies these days but especially this one. I think it's one of the funniest movies ever made but there's too many people out there that get offended by any little thing. Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are my first and second favorite movies. Love you Mel Brooks!
Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges! There are so many great lines in blazing Saddles, this one hits the spot with me.
This line originated in a Humphrey Bogart film TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE and was already well known so obviously Brookes would bring it onto BS
Well fuck if you want to fart then Fart 💨

On TV it's probably cut, censored and sped up. Buy a DVD copy and you get the whole experience.
I did the same thing as a freshman in high school. I dubbed it "Blazing Buttocks". At 14 a lot goes over your head.

You could say he dragged racism outa the woodpile.

My pick for the funniest movie of all time. I still love that line, "The sheriff is DING". That makes me sad how many greats we've lost. Gene, Cleavon, Gilda, Alex, Steve, Slim, Harvey, Carl and Madeline, at this time I think Mel is still living and apparently planning to live out his roll of 2000 year old man in real life. I hope he succeeds. I don't think we'll ever see such comedy genius again. I didn't know he collaborated with Buck Henry on writing for the Get Smart TV show, one of my favorites along with The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres.
Amazing courage.
...APPARENTLY, HE DID A BANG UP JOB-(!)
Well, I am so glad he was an expert in deactvating mines, otherwise think what we would have missed.

I can't believe nobody commented very thank you for sharing that story.

I'll watch an Avengers movie, and there is almost no story or exposition, and I'm like, "What the fuck am I watching?"
