    What a masterpiece of education for a photographer taking advantage of the many churches that have stained glass. Heading out today to capture a much smaller version of what I'm viewing here but, very excited for the prospects. Thank you sir for the work you do and the inspiration you promote!

    Excellent vidio and some very interesting angles. I like the cropped images showing close-up detail. That is a very good idea. Over the years I have developed the habit of using three bracketted exposures and standing back a bit. I then blend the shots in Photoshop (Edit - Scripts - Statistics - Stack Mode = Median - Browse in the three images and check the attempt to align images box) before editing in ACR to edit the combined image usually to tone down the highlights and brighten the shadows.. Back in Photoshop I use the Lens Correction tool to swivel the image forward so, if I have done the job right, it seems as if I have taken the shot at eye level with the window. It works for me most of the time.

    Really enjoyed watching this, as with all your videos. As an Olympus user myself, I never cease to be amazed by the image quality that can be coaxed out of the RAW files.

      I am committed to saving to RAW as you have more flexibility to complete the image in post-production. Every picture is different.

    Superb image,s Derek, not my interest, but a lady freind will love this, she has the Pen F, a work of art, not just a camera, and I am very envious, however my EM1 will suffice.

      One of my first and most watched programmes was about the PEN F. In case you haven't seen it, here is the link: -ua-cam.com/video/oiFDw81PiIw/v-deo.html

    This video was simply awe inspiring! I have loved looking at your images of cathedrals and stained glass for years and I am still dumbstruck every time I see a new one! There is a certain beauty and magic when these windows are captured correctly and the interior of the church brought to life in Lightroom. Since I developed an interest in photography and consequently discovered your UA-cam channel, I have never found another photographer that can come close to your artistry! I would think you are considered to be the Best of the Best in the UK of Cathedral and Stained Glass photography, as well as in the Landscape photography genre. You are in my book…

      When I completed the programme, for once I was particularly happy with the result. One tends to be self-critical of output and it is good to get your positive feedback confirming my own thoughts. I have a natural feel for landscape and architectural subjects which I don't have for other photographic areas.

    I really enjoyed this video. When you spot meter the highlights, do you add extra exposure (say 1 or 2 stops) to avoid them to become middle grays but still not being blown out?

    • @DerekForss

      I don't add extra exposure when spot metering, I have never believed in exposing for the so called right. I save to RAW and adjust in Adobe Lightroom. If you go to my UA-cam Homepage, link below, you will find many programmes about photography that you may find helpful. Thank you and best wishes.

    Lovely images. When you spot meter, do you use the highlight spot metering setting or the regular spot metering?

    • @DerekForss
      @DerekForss  2 роки тому +1

      I use regular spot metering. The area covered is sufficiently selective as to which part of the image I spot meter.
