In 2016, I was detained for more than 48 hours without a trial just because someone maligned me as a terrorist....though there were no proofs, no incidents, not even any links or evidences, no intentions, no violence etc...having found nothing, they put me in IMH, completely unnecessary....I was not even a dissenter or whatever ....but there was no way for an innocent citizen to defend himself? No avenues for recourse? I am stumped...but now they decided to take away my daughter against her will, just to punish me for blowing the whistle...sick

Dr. Thum, how do I contact you? I was wrongful arrested under section 7 simply because the arresting officer was the same officer whom I had previously filed a complaint against for not investigating my previous complaint on stalking. I was held on holding cell for several hours where I was humiliated, shouted at, molested and even spat at. Over 2 years since injustices occurred, I have sought for answers from SPF, Attorney Chambers, SMC and still I have been shunned and was dismissed as me being vexatious! Extremely sad for you. Please don't leave for UK! There many in Singapore need you be our voice and conduit.

“It is the responsibility of a historian to use that knowledge to make the world better.” Awesome!
So long as academics have been conditioned to remember which side their bread is buttered it will be an uphill task getting them to exercise their responsibility.

Eventually the power you given to the establishment to trade for better earning will also be the future power that is going to take your wealth back for its own. This is exactly what Singapore is experiencing now and the freedom will only diminishes with time as it goes.
The only change will happen is when the PAP is kicked out from power.

    • @LonganLee

@@marxseet Why would you say that ? I asked the question whether China model is better. I think it's not bad. Very efficient. That's said , liking it does not mean I hope sg to become it. SG can have an adapted version of it since there are no rules to political system given the fact that the ruler of the system is the ruler and each system is sovereign. There is no standard for democracy. There is no standard for dictatorship. These are just names. It's not just what the constitution says but also what the people perceive it to be that makes it a democracy or not. A China model is such where the ruling party has a word called communist in it's CCP but in effect China operates as a Capitalist Socialist system . There is no contradtiction because there is no standard for political systems. A democracy can be effectively a Dictatorship. Our good friend North Korea is one such example. Dictatorship can be the best model . Democracy can also be the best model.
It all depends on the ruler. Ideally if he is a saint, there is no need to check
