Future King Jae: Shout out for AK beating Arslan Ash in the Combo Breaker 2024 finals!
Tekken King Shaheen here. Tried him out in Tekken 7 and he felt like an incomplete character, but in Tekken 8 his identity is completely fleshed out and he's so fun to play. His gameplan can certainly be centered around his slide, but he's got many other great low options such as wc df4, which can go into his stance into mixup options, be cancelled into the same move or just block, or finish into wc df4,1 to punish mashers.
Other things he has include:
Second best hopkick in the game
Traditional safe DF2
Best slide in the game (in my opinion)
Amazing poking string with df4,1
Mid and low heat smash
Combos that can always get you to the wall no matter which side it's on
Things he does NOT have:
Broken strings that will carry you
Infinite range attacks
Amazing frames
Shaheen is a great character for a solid fundemental player, as well as for those who wish to improve their fundemental play. Just keep in mind that he will NOT carry you. He is as only as good as his player.
Can confirm this. He's my first character to mighty ruler and it was a struggle. I switched to a top tier and dominated with ease even against other top tiers because I was able to understand the roots of the game better.

I feel like he has because nobody knows the matchup and the fall for WR3 constantly.
If you want a super easy beginner combo:
Hopkick, DF2, magic 4:
Launcher / 4,1 / 4,1 / F2,3 / 4,1 - for wall carry
100 % agree that he is slept on, he has all the same good poking, 13 frame counter hit on his 4,1. All the good tools that he ever had and now just gets the insane charge move pressure, f2,3 on hit wallbumps so you can just go for the charge move again after cashing your guaranteed damage. 2 heatsmashes.
Shaheen has great 50/50s, strong oki, good counter hits, one of the only characters that can delete recoverable health. All of his knife hand moves (UF+1, b1, snk->1+2) recover rage meter on hit and do a ton of chip on block. Been playing Shaheen since day one and every day I see more people recognizing this character as a great choice.

Taking away grey health is one of my greatest joys in this game
Yeah it feels good when my Shaheen do it... But it need a setup for a counter hit or make the opponent duck

@@NoName-zh1jz hornet is great 100% but my fat fingers couldn’t allow me to do it concisely and I say they people tend to unga I’m no different and b2 is easy and quick

Shaheen has always been kinda nice, but he was lacking flavour in t7, so I'm glad they sorted that out in t8
I picked him up during this game since I played King and figured he would help me learn a better neutral and defense. To say I fell in love with this character is an understatement. The hardest part about playing him is not having a lot of resources to learn him since he is so unpopular, so thank you for this.
What i really like about Shaheen in this game is how creative you can be with how you set up al ghoul master ( his charged attack aka سيد الغيلان) the sky is the limit with how you can set it up and that makes him so much more fun to play
I watched Ghirlanda walkthrough and it was mention that Shaheen is possibly a Intermediete character. This is one factor why he could be slept on over the popular characters. That said, I have had so much joy learning Shaheen from Tekken 7. The fundamentals you develop carries over to Tekken 8 flawlessly. My favourite move is the charge one!
Glad Shaheen is starting to get some recognition! I went into this game very vocal that he didn’t belong on the starting roster, but completely ate my own words when I tried him.
None of my mains made into the initial launch so I had to find new main. Tried several characters, but to my surprise I found this new version of Shaheen the most fun to play and immediately connected with him!
There’s quite a lot of depth to this character. A lot to learn and he’s someone that really is as good as you are. He can compete with the best characters, and in the right hands can be a real menace to play against. He’s just more so dependent on the player’s skill.
Having an absolute blast learning and climbing with Shaheen! I feel using him has actually improved my overall Tekken play. The devs did an amazing job in giving his gameplay some character. Really has a style that feels unique to him, and is so much fun.

yo if you are playing shaheen in tekken 8 then more power to you.. you guys are bringing a sword to a god damn nuclear bombfight... they don't come any more honest than shaheen in tekken 8.. but at least you guys can sleep at night lol. you need hella fundamentals to play shaheen, i got him to mighty ruler as a pocket character and honestly in this game he is pure tekken in a world of unga bunga party mode
That's the thing; Paul is fairly honest, but he got the Death Punch if he feels like getting stupid. Shaheen has no such tactics. You have to know all of your tools and when to use them.
I've been playing him in Fujin and I agree. He suits the fundamental style some of us miss in T8 but with some tools to compete against the top tiers. I'm really happy with him and I'll continue playing him until Miguel comes out.
That’s funny Miguel was one of my mains in T7 and was really bummed he didn’t make it but ended up really jiving with Shaheen too!

Shaheen is like ryu in sf6, he teaches u the core fundamentals of the game, with his simple buttons, which makes u better overall at the game, But as u rank up u realize, Ken does all that plus more/ Other characters in Tekken
Shaheen has all the fundamental tools but he does have the best slide mixup in the game, the ability to remove recoverable health, and that charge move guard break. He may not be broken like some characters but he is very competitive.
Good analogy and I always felt since T7, he’s a good character to pick up to learn Tekken.

His jump/slide loops are pretty funny. You do slide into stealth 2 into u1 cancel. Before you land you can buffer another slide that will come out the moment you land or just do fc df2 as a safe mid option. And if you go for a slide and it hits you can repeat the sequence :)
Shaheen can also do the charge move from stance, that means your stance has the low heat smash, or high guard break instant tornado launcher, or mid heat dash launcher, or counter hit high that guarantees db2,1 into heat dash WR2 for nearly 60 damage

I've seen pro players use Shaheen, which seems like the only ones who use him, and he looks a lot more interesting than in 7. I don't know for sure, but he also seems stronger in this game than in the previous. I hope Jae considers using Shaheen in 8, even if it ain't a main.
Been a Kazuya main for years and i still love it but i wanted to learn some other chars in t8. Played raven for 1 week and had ton of fun and there are honestly no other chars that look that interesting to me but shaheen might be worth a try. His new stuff looks insane

Hes my main. Every gets on the hate train because hes lackluster in tekken 7. Which he was. But in t8, hes fixed!
For some reasons his dash block is literally a korean backdash like try dash blocking and youll see what im talking about also yeah Shaheen is avery slept on character i think his really good 👍🏽

Try key charging after a bound and use db3,4 on their wake up
I played him a bit in t7 got bored but with him. He was a goood character but he was boring now he looks fun and hes even better

Also All his + moves do chip. He can really take advantage of his knife hand to eat up your grey health cause its really easy for Shaheen to chip you like there's no tomorrow.
Hes definitely more enjoyable to tekken 8, even tho he lacks the style and stance stuff that i like in characters, but still feels good to play him

His hopkick is reason alone to main him. It's probably the best i15 frame launch in the game only Lars f1+2 is after it.
Not saying it isn't very string, because it's definitely top 5, but I would put Claudio's first then Shaheen. Lars f1+2 leads to great damage but is more negative than a normal 15f launch so that brings it down the list for me

Like Lars. If he is going to punish a -13 move he will do it with f2,4 i12 not f1,2 i13
Or like Leroy if I'm going to punish a -13 it's gonna be with 12 framec 2,2 for 30 damage. Same with Yoshi. Same for almost the whole cast

I like that he is good but not broken. He plays Tekken, unlike half the cast.

I think this whole idea of relying on having a strong flow chart to win matches is just making people develop bad habits, seen way too many high ranking players that can’t block punish consistently or refuse to and just want to go unga bunga donkey kong all the time 💀
In my opinion besides his looks/personality, people don't want to play him because they don't want to learn neutral and fundamentals. It's a shame too because this game encourages the unga playstyle. Why play shaheen and have to sweat, when you can just make d jin heat smash go brrr or get crazy dmg with drag.
People want the easy win, and while it's understandable it definitely takes away from the tekken experience for me. I hop online and it's the same azu, reina, vic, mishimas, king.
I think the reason people aren’t playing him is he just seems very ‘chicken and potatoes’.

Its funny because he is Tekken in its purest form. Nowadays, characters who play true tekken are considered boring and thats kinda sad imo but it is what it is.

A fair assessment. Shaheen is a solid character, but he is visiblly bland compared to characters like Victor or Yoshimitsu.

It depends on your definition of underrated.
To me (in terms of fighting games) underrated means the character is ranked lower on a tier list than they should be imo. But it sounds like you guys are talking about character usage stats. And if this is the case, Leo is has a higher usage on all platforms than Shaheen.

Your average Tekken fan doesn't play him because he's lame. The try hard tekken fan doesn't play him because there are better options at the moment. The loyalist are as is with a side character in their pocket to cover weaknesses. That's all there is to it really. Shaheen doesn't exactly give anything unique as a counter pick or last ditch effort. Other characters are always cooler and excel in each area Shaheen has.
It's because of personality in conjunction with story. We already have characters who have beef with Kazuya due to him getting a loved one killed (Leo for example lost their mom thanks to Kazuya). We didn't need this in conjunction with a bland personality. It doesn't help that literally all he talks about is his dead friend.

I would say out of the 3 slide character, it goes Law, Shaheen, Lee. Shaheen just has the best stance out of the 3 and an orbital. Not sure what he can do better per say but he’s got the simplest game plan

I don't think shaheen is that good. most of his options you have to win neutral before even attempting and in tekken 8 people can skip neutral and bully you if your not super careful. he don't get much damage from his combos and much wall carry compared to the rest of the cast and i hate his combo route. his while rising 2 is hella punishable. his while rising 1 is 14 frames and he only gets a back forward 2 compared to other cast members that are 13 and they get full launch. with a few tweaks shaheen would be really good but right now I value leroy way more
Their's a difference between you not liking him and him not being good. You're free to not like him but he is absolutely a good solid character.

He's just boring, just the most esthetically boring character. No personality. His place in the story is basically just Miguel, but at least Miguel looks cool. most use he ever got was in T7 when he was the best slide character in the game. (Even his playstyle isn't unique) As soon as he got nerfed, you never saw him again. I suspect as soon TWT starts you will see him if he is as strong as we think. You will see more of him after that then when they nerf him people will drop him again. His apeal right now is that he's a strong character, and most people don't know what he does.
I personally enjoy the character. Sure he doesn't exactly stand out but that's part of what I like about him. In a game full of flashy gimmicky bs, Shaheen is a solid fundamental character with good tools if used properly.
@Reapra Not a problem, I know some people will enjoy him. I'm only stating that the reason you don't see him has a lot to do with what I mentioned earlier. PS I also like simple characters, and tbh I'm not a fan of all the flashy anime stuff they added to the game.
I don't think BAMCO will nerf him because BAMCO knows that not many people play this dude... It might even be possible for shaheen to get some buffs 😅.
Also, i'm glad that more & more new Tekken players are starting to play him, he's a cool character (if you don't compare him to other characters). 👍
No just no. This quite simply just isn’t true. He’s always looked cool. He literally has the look of badass who can kick ass.
You can argue backstory or personality is “bland.” Sure I guess but not really. None of you have a problem with Jin being mega mega serious lol. Also every other non Mishima character isn’t all that fleshed out in the tekken verse anyways so that’s not a good argument either.

He’s the only character in the franchise that excels in full crouch mix ups. Think about how nutty that is in a game like tekken where it’s dangerous to duck cuz mids are what kill you.
That alone makes him unique, dynamic and thrilling to play
@versatilelord8893 you and the other 50 Shaheen players might think he's cool but the rest of us have eyes. He's bland as hell, period. His personality and background are both bland and not original. The only unique thing about him is that he's a Middle Eastern fighter. I'm sure if you look at the usage data, it would reflect it. It's probably not even that bad for him because he's actually really strong. Which I mentioned is then only time he gets decent usage rate which once they normalize him he will go back to not being used by majority of people. That same trend happen to him in T7. People played him when he was top tier and dropped him when he wasn't. He's the only character that excels at full crouch mixups? In just tekken 8 alone lee and law would like a word with you lol. And those two are the ones directly in his archetype.
