The problem I have is you get in such a relaxed rhythm you don't realise you've started noodling and are not actually thinking about what you're drawing anymore and it becomes a mess.

Ahh, yes. That is the flip side of the coin I guess. Thanks for the warning!😀

Thanks for another video loaded with pointers. I'm grateful that you spend the time to explain how to get into the right headspace when laying down a line or series of lines. I find it comforting(!) that what you describe is quite similar to how I've learned to think about drawing in order to have my linework look good. This is probably one of those areas where I'll always be working on in the background since there's always room for improvement (at least in my case).

Thanks Scott. I think we’re all always be working on our marks, but it sounds like your in a good direction with them. All the best.

@@stephentraversart Question to the side: Do you (or are you planning to) draw wildlife pictures?

Half way through the video, I imagined you drawing a statue in the clearing in the foreground and middle. I found it difficult to imagine. I think that this is due to the sides and background, which helped to create depth, which wouldn't work with a statue. I think that this is a testament to the quality of the minute details.
By the way, have you considered going into comic book drawing? With all these details, i think that you might enjoy hiding things in your drawings. An action packed drama might show a ninja hiding in the shrubs, for example.

Haha. No. Comics were a special part of my childhood and youth, we had the complete set of Prince Valiant comics from the 1950s from an uncle and I found the illustrations as compelling as the stories. But not for me to draw. If I’m going into an imaginative world, I would rather it were from someone else’s imagination. Glad you the found the depth effective. That was a big part of the aim. 😀

Your videos are very helpful, you’re good at breaking things into smaller pieces, thank you. I’m curious though, how long does it take you to make a drawing like this one?
