When I am low on motivation to paint, I like to tell myself "put one brushstroke on the model" ANY paint on the miniature at all. Inevitably by the time I get my pallet set, paint on a brush and paint on a model I always ALWAYS keep going. Dips and lean painting periods are pretty normal especially as our skills plateau after a growth period. Motivation is fleeting, so you need to go after it with a club.
I’ve been struggling for 6mo, I get things built, & primed, usually zenithaled… then nothing. Let’s not forget the two humongous dragons sitting on a shelf I’m afraid to even touch.
My friend told me something similar yesterday, so i pushed him into doing one figures skin and hair while we were hanging out, and I feel this comment deeply. Maybe grab an easy model like a skeleton or just put your favorite color as a base coat on 1 part of a model to get you started, then stop if you want. But don't give up. Maybe I can challenge you to get one model painted this month? Just don't start with one of those dragons. They are intimidating. lol. I'm about to paint one soon, though, which will have a video, so maybe you can get inspired by mine to start yours. I'm just happy to hear you haven't given up completely. Remember, you can do it. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
Unfinished projects?!?!? BWAHAHAHA!!!!! I have many. Seriously we all have a few. I recently finished a big one because I had it in my head it had to be ready for a show. That worked out well for me. Another one you didn’t mention was to join a club. I freely admit that much of what i have done would not have happened without those guys. One other thing you touched on was to make it your own!!! I strongly feel that everything that comes off my work bench should have something about it that makes it uniquely mine. I don’t even do that intentionally. I just want every build to be special in some way even if I am the only person who knows about it. Trust me when I say I have a bunch of unfinished stuff so I appreciate this one
Yeah, you've seen my "store". I feel like those fit under deadlines... even if it's just a deadline to show it off, but great additions! And your unique spin is really important, but I was planning on a whole video for that (once I get around to it). As an art form, it's the whole reason to do any of it.
