This is an incredible band .. over 90 (soon to be 100) song catalog and all are super interesting and melodic as hell ... All the skills of the greatest of hard rock bands, the arrangements that would make The Eagles, The Beatles, and Elton John jealous, and the poetry of a Japanese 'Leonard Cohen', combined together with beautiful ladies with their own unique and interesting personalities!! I think a work colleague who I introduced to BAND-MAID happened to mention your channel the other day......and lo and behold, here you are reacting to BAND-MAID. Good to hear a fellow Scot reacting to my favourite band. The costumes (which aren't particularly visible here are Maid costumes (clue is in the name). The rhythm gutarist, Miku Kobato, whose idea it was to form the band used to work in a Maid cafe in Japan, and wanted there to be what is referred to as "the gap" between the 'cute' costumes and the hard rock music they played. It works. BAND-MAID are by far the best band I've happened upon. I've listened to them every single day since I found their song Domination (live) on UA-cam back in March/April. I've also spent an absolute fortune on their music and merchandise since then. I'm not even normally a rock/metal fan (Grunge was probably the last time I listened to 'Rock' bands with any regularity, and before that some of the late 80s Rock/Metal bands - G'N'R, Metallica, Poison etc) but I absolutely LOVE this band and their music. Despite Kanami (lead guitar and main composer), MISA (bass) and Akane (drummer) all being really talented musicians and Saiki (lead vocals) fitting the band's music so well, and Miku's solid rhythm playing the band still manage to somehow be greater than the sum of their parts. Check out Domination or Freedom (both live from 2020) on the official channel......or absolutely anything by this band - they incorporate a lot of influences and styles into their songs (2nd verse is usually different to 1st verse, and there are riffs etc aplenty scattered through the songs). You are unlikely to be disappointed (having said that, "Thrill" was their breakthrough video but is a little 'weak' compared to where the band are at now, and I'm not personally overly keen on "The Dragon Cries" which was produced by Tony Visconti and is sung in English - but others do rate it). There are NO songs that I skip past when I'm listening to BAND-MAID. Enjoy.

Most talented and IMO already best band at the planet right now... Writing the songs on their own, they are over the top on their instruments, they always have fun on stage, they are best friends with each other and doing A LOT for their fans! They build everything on their own and they are not casted like most of the asian groups out there (doesn´t matter for me how good people are, it´s about chemistry for me). These girls are crazy talented, i must've heard 50+ different songs from them so far and not a single one i didn't enjoy! Best Rock band out there. The lead guitarist is Kanami and she is the main composer for the band, Miku the rhythm guitarist is the main lyricist. As an old fart( and a drummer from a past life😉), it's always great to see a guitarist air drum to a song. As you can tell, this was an instrumental. My air drumming is definitely better than my real drums - but, like every guitar player, as soon as the drummer steps out of the room I'm right behind the kit playing the one drum beat. Very badly!
these are "traditional" maid uniforms they are wearing :D listen to them a bit more and you will understand the gist (or the concept) of it. I see no reason to comment much more on it, because the video was dark and you couldn't see them properly anyway... let's spare this for your next one ;) if you are into the old nearly forgotten sound of the 70s/80s (some say 90s or 00s...) sound - you have a "Zeppelin" poster on display - you're going to love them. I'm sure about that. They are a hard-rock band at it's core, but they move in the spectrum a lot - pop-punk, pop-rock, blues, jazz, some metal-influences (but they don't go full metal). they have softer songs, harder songs, and even can go from to the other in the middle of a song - and it's not that it hasn't been done before, but all about the way they do it... it's perfection. their song-writing ability is just great. and they are still stepping up their game with every new album/release in that regard I'm sure you'll check out some non-instrumental song of them next, so you see all 5 of them. Because in this band there is no "best" one, no "most favorite" one, no "most talented" one, ... - they all are equals! All of them get their time in the spotlight, they are basically the definition of "teamwork". as for next one - just start checking out their youtube-page...

Fun fact: the rythm guitarist is the student of the lead guitarist. She has began learned guitar from the lead guitarist when the band has formed on 2013 until now (she still learning). But you've seen how good she is and the whole band is amazing. Nice reaction.
Really good honest review of this song,so difficult in parts,particularly the tempo changes. Akane on drums is superb in these parts. No consistent beat to work on so requires quick fills to adjust to the variation. There's another reviwer who tries to play the tapping and makes a complete fool of himself. Miku plays rythmn guitar. Couldn't play at all 6 years ago when she joined. Kanami taught her.To see them all playing near darkness with strobes,lasers shooting around is an astounding musical accomplishment. Just another reason the band has so many admirers worldwide. Reportly 70% outside of Japan. Fans from 88 countries watched their last virtual performance on December 13th. On a large stage,would send shivers down your spine. Her timing and feel for the solos are something special. Many guitarists can play non sensical solos that don't tie in with a song or are just rambling pieces. Kanami compacts them into beautiful art forms. Listen to Anemone and Puzzle in acoustic form for outstanding live performances. Very easy guitar chords but the emotional Saiki vocal that accompanies Kanami guitar really is beautiful. A power ballad is Daydreaming featuring an outstanding fast Kanami solo with beautiful Miku backing vocals. It really sums up the astounding musical ability of the ladies. Kanami has the unique ability to incorporate different genres into a song with timing changes and variations. You have to be good to play these styles especially when it's fast. It's The Maids trademark and why they're admired worldwide. There's really no better all female band in the world. Kudos to the parents and Art programs in Japan for recognising and developing this talent. One of the reasons why this country produces some of the best musicians on the planet. Currently, there are three BAND-MAID live BLU-RAY (DVD). at Shinkiba STUDIO COAST in 2017 [1h editing] at Zepp Tokyo in 2018 at Line Cube Shibuya in 2020 However, other than the 2020 live, 2017 and 2018 are currently out of print, and AMAZON has a premium price for each. 2017 BLU-RAY 27789yen (268.49 $) 2018 BLU-RAY 49600yen (479.23 $) Due to Amazon's system, the premium price as a high evaluation for this BAND-MAID is not returned to BAND-MAID, and only the seller makes a profit. In other words, the purchase is ridiculous. ONSET, CROSS, REAL EXISTENCE, uploaded to the official channel are from 2018 live. However, none of the 2017 TAKEs have been uploaded to the official channel. There are no signs that they will be sold together at the official channel store, 2017 Live 2018 Live. I agree, totally! I’ve watched a couple of other reaction videos to this track - not musicians tho - and I didn’t see anyone mention it. I genuinely have no idea what the timing is there. It is very clever and I guess must have taken a while to rehearse. I think Akane is just fantastic in those parts, it’s almost like she is hearing the beat, but is playing something different that just fits in as if by magic! A really great track.
@@DunsysGuitarWorld IKR. Her drumming you can set a clock by. I "think" her and Kaname (lead) are using a metronome or something for timing on this piece in their headsets as their is a synch play over on the second "verse" Almost sounds like a 3rd guitar. They have to be on the same timing for it to kick in like that I think. Im sure a bunch of fans will tell you, theres a sweet Drum solo in the official LIVE "Freedom" track. Like everything this band does, its both top notch but not over the top and she (even then) doesnt lose beat with the main song it is is in. Crazy! You might find playing back by ear easier on that song too haha. Theres a kid on youtube who does have their guitar parts down pat and posts them for you personal viewing. May help figure out WTH is going on on that 5/3 (I think?)
I'm 52 and love them. You're the first person I've seen mention the 90s alternative sound sometimes...a lot of this song reminds me of Ned's Atomic Dustbin if NAD had much, much better musicians.

Yes, Band Maid is incredible. I grew up on classic rock here in the states. Heart, Boston, Journey, Zepplin favorites. But since 2003, when i found Nightwish, my music is in Japan and Europe, where rock music thrives. You are witnessing Kanami on guitar here. She is such an incredible guitarist and songwriter, composer. Misa is the bassist. Miku is rythum guitar, she worked in a maid cafe in Tokyo, while in school. She thought what a gap, women in maid outfits rocking. Kanami is one of my all time favorite guitarists now, she creates such incredible songs, blending various genres of rock, and music. Onset is a live song, they use to give vocalist Seike a break. The dragon cries, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination are songs to try. Puzzle is an incredible song, where Kanami packs it with many riffs. Rinne is a heavier riffed song. Jimmy Page went backstage at a show in Tokyo, he caught, and got a photo with him and drummer Akane. He calls her one of best drummers since Bonham. But you can find the pic online. Kanami says Carlos Santana, Larry Carlton were influences. She tweeted a beautiful tribute to Eddie Van Halen, saying how she loved his phrasing and tapping. I found Band-Maid about two years ago while being bored at work watching silly Japanese Music videos. (see Baby Metal "Gimme Chocolate"). They kept popping up in my recommendations, but the thumbnail clearly showed them wearing silly Maid costumes. But hey, that day I was watching silly videos. OMFG! is all I can say. After you watch and listen to these musicians you will never think of them as silly. The first thing I focused in on was the Drummer. I had assumed this was just another Pop-Idol group where the girls just sing and dance, looking cute as they do their thing. But from the first ("Start Over") the Drummer was clearly playing a funky tasteful groove. It went from this kind of light guitar pop to slowly built up piece that had me clicking on the next one on the list: "Thrill." A total throwback to 80s Hard Rock nearly Metal. The drummer is sprinkling in double pedals and just keeping it rock solid. At this point I'm impressed and had to keep going. "Real Existence" is what put me over the edge. Akane (I had read the comments to find out her name at this point) goes completely Keith Moon wild on the drums while never losing control. Each verse, each chorus and the guitar solo all have multiple sub sections on the drums, and it is simply amazing. Simple, but ever moving, changing and perfectly locked into the rest of the music. So, after watching every last official video on their channel multiple times, made my first iTunes purchase EVER (and first money spent on new music in DECADES) I called up a friend of mine who had played guitar professionally in Japan back in the 90s. "Dude, I just found THE MOST AMAZING Japanese band! and they're all girls! and all dressed up li...." "Oh, you found Band-Maid, here, let me send you a link" ONSET. I think I cried as guitarist tapped her way across the strings. I've not been THIS into a band since first learning to play drums listening to Rush. They are THAT good.
I love this story of yours! 🤘💕 [start over] as an entry point to the world of BAND-MAID is quite unusual. Many fans dislike it, for some strange reason. I personally love those songs where BAND-MAID ventures into jazz, at least a little bit. I remember when I first started listening to them, I imagined that they could go into some jazz metal style in one of the later albums. At the time, the only song which really indicated their love for jazz, was LOOK AT ME. Starting with almost a primitive AC/DC riff, and then suddenly switching at 2-28 to almost Herbie Hancock groove... That was amazing. This expectation is gradually materializing in songs like [start over] and [Wonderland]. BAND-MAID is not really going too crazy about it, but I welcome their attempts at going beyond the narrow confines of one particular style. As Chase Carneson keeps saying, they are indeed important for modern music. And long may they rock!
That part with the different time signature is 5/4, but I only know that because of another reaction video that pointed it out. It doesn't help that the guitar lines all go over a measure and like, end halfway through the next. But if you count it out and just pay attention to Akane's drumming, you can see that it's 5/4. Nicely done in figuring out that much of it! Much better than I could do, that's for sure. Thanks for this wonderful video.
Band-Maid is a phenomenal band. Bar none one of the best hard rock band at this time. Like you noticed they don't follow the conventional timing like majority of the bands that make them unique. Their songs are very catchy but yet brings in some really hard rock with metal elements in them. I encourage you to listen to some of their other songs in their Discography. Their singer, Saiki, has an amazing voice. Great first reaction to this amazing band. Looking forward for more.
Yeah, as soon as I heard the time signature on that part I was like "what on earth is that?!" - I guess musicians are always thinking about what is happening tune and timing wise whenever they listen to a song.
Imo these girls are teh best hard rock band on the planet right now. so so much talent, and you haven't even heard Saiki's singing yet. I echo Blooming, but if you want one which is "Simpler" but with really amazing guitar work try Dice.
And this is "literally" their filler stuff just to give the lead singer a break. Yes they are this good. Yes they kick fucking ass every day of the week.

Hi Dunsy , I think the observation you made about the delay setting ( that is usually referred to as ' dotted eighth delay' ) is absolutely bang on. The sound , ( not the playing , the sound ) is very, very like Pat Thrall on the live Pat Travers album. Just a couple of suggestions I thought would be great to see you do a video on ....Enuff Znuff ; Mother's Eyes, Girl ; Overnight Angels , Wild Horses ; Criminal Tendencies . They are notorious for messing with the timing of their songs... Band Maid is extremely technical. Wait till you hear their non instrumental songs... make a mental note of how the 2nd verse changes from the 1st. They’re known to do that as well a lot.

I've listened to this song for almost a year, hundreds of times literally and still can't figure what the time signature is. I played drums for years and listened to a lot of YES I thought they had head scratching time signatures, but I could always figure it out....let me know when you find out..LOL! Yeah, the guitarist in me immediately thought “I have absolutely no idea where the beat is and what is that time signature?” I spent ages listening to it and I couldn’t even get close. If the drummer in my band came up with that pattern and asked me to play to it I would have to just pack my guitar up and concede defeat!

The first one hundred times, probably 😂 Then I finally grabbed what she's doing there. It's similar to all those Led Zeppelin Black Dog rhythm shifts, and to what King Crimson always loved to do with their songs. And Kanami is doing it just for fun, to give her beloved Saiki a break!
Yeah, I tried to find a studio version to try and learn the guitar - such a great tune. I genuinely loved this one. I’m a guitar player and the parts are so well put together. That said I know a great drummer when I see/hear one too!

It was originally ment to be an instrumental, but the studio said "No" so they added lyrics. Band-Maid also frequently modifies and adds extra to their live songs. They are a consummate live show groupm

All the skills of the greatest of hard rock bands, the arrangements that would make The Eagles, The Beatles, and Elton John jealous, and the poetry of a Japanese 'Leonard Cohen', combined together with beautiful ladies with their own unique and interesting personalities!!

I think a work colleague who I introduced to BAND-MAID happened to mention your channel the other day......and lo and behold, here you are reacting to BAND-MAID. Good to hear a fellow Scot reacting to my favourite band.
The costumes (which aren't particularly visible here are Maid costumes (clue is in the name). The rhythm gutarist, Miku Kobato, whose idea it was to form the band used to work in a Maid cafe in Japan, and wanted there to be what is referred to as "the gap" between the 'cute' costumes and the hard rock music they played. It works.
BAND-MAID are by far the best band I've happened upon. I've listened to them every single day since I found their song Domination (live) on UA-cam back in March/April. I've also spent an absolute fortune on their music and merchandise since then. I'm not even normally a rock/metal fan (Grunge was probably the last time I listened to 'Rock' bands with any regularity, and before that some of the late 80s Rock/Metal bands - G'N'R, Metallica, Poison etc) but I absolutely LOVE this band and their music. Despite Kanami (lead guitar and main composer), MISA (bass) and Akane (drummer) all being really talented musicians and Saiki (lead vocals) fitting the band's music so well, and Miku's solid rhythm playing the band still manage to somehow be greater than the sum of their parts.
Check out Domination or Freedom (both live from 2020) on the official channel......or absolutely anything by this band - they incorporate a lot of influences and styles into their songs (2nd verse is usually different to 1st verse, and there are riffs etc aplenty scattered through the songs). You are unlikely to be disappointed (having said that, "Thrill" was their breakthrough video but is a little 'weak' compared to where the band are at now, and I'm not personally overly keen on "The Dragon Cries" which was produced by Tony Visconti and is sung in English - but others do rate it). There are NO songs that I skip past when I'm listening to BAND-MAID. Enjoy.

Writing the songs on their own, they are over the top on their instruments, they always have fun on stage, they are best friends with each other and doing A LOT for their fans! They build everything on their own and they are not casted like most of the asian groups out there (doesn´t matter for me how good people are, it´s about chemistry for me). Another old guy here. I've been a fan of band-Maid for five or six years. I started at Thrill and have been addicted ever since!
these are "traditional" maid uniforms they are wearing :D listen to them a bit more and you will understand the gist (or the concept) of it. I see no reason to comment much more on it, because the video was dark and you couldn't see them properly anyway... let's spare this for your next one ;)
if you are into the old nearly forgotten sound of the 70s/80s (some say 90s or 00s...) sound - you have a "Zeppelin" poster on display - you're going to love them. I'm sure about that. They are a hard-rock band at it's core, but they move in the spectrum a lot - pop-punk, pop-rock, blues, jazz, some metal-influences (but they don't go full metal). they have softer songs, harder songs, and even can go from to the other in the middle of a song - and it's not that it hasn't been done before, but all about the way they do it... it's perfection. their song-writing ability is just great. and they are still stepping up their game with every new album/release in that regard
I'm sure you'll check out some non-instrumental song of them next, so you see all 5 of them. Because in this band there is no "best" one, no "most favorite" one, no "most talented" one, ... - they all are equals! All of them get their time in the spotlight, they are basically the definition of "teamwork".

Really good honest review of this song,so difficult in parts,particularly the tempo changes. Akane on drums is superb in these parts. No consistent beat to work on so requires quick fills to adjust to the variation. There's another reviwer who tries to play the tapping and makes a complete fool of himself. Miku plays rythmn guitar. Couldn't play at all 6 years ago when she joined. Kanami taught her.To see them all playing near darkness with strobes,lasers shooting around is an astounding musical accomplishment. Just another reason the band has so many admirers worldwide. Reportly 70% outside of Japan. Fans from 88 countries watched their last virtual performance on December 13th. Kanami on lead guitar really is the genius here. Composed all of their music for the last 3 years. Misa on bass and Akane on drums are amazing as seen here. Educated at a music Academy. All 3 are multitrumentalists.
The Maids really shine live. Many bands produce studio albums that they can't replicate live. This is an area where these ladies excel.
Misa and Kanami's solos are something to behold.

There are other uploads of Kanami going wild in lead ins to Moratorium in small gigs in London and States. Something else. Sounded brilliant in a small club. On a large stage,would send shivers down your spine. Her timing and feel for the solos are something special. Many guitarists can play non sensical solos that don't tie in with a song or are just rambling pieces. Kanami compacts them into beautiful art forms.

Very easy guitar chords but the emotional Saiki vocal that accompanies Kanami guitar really is beautiful.
A power ballad is Daydreaming featuring an outstanding fast Kanami solo with beautiful Miku backing vocals.
It really sums up the astounding musical ability of the ladies. Kanami has the unique ability to incorporate different genres into a song with timing changes and variations. You have to be good to play these styles especially when it's fast. It's The Maids trademark and why they're admired worldwide. There's really no better all female band in the world. Kudos to the parents and Art programs in Japan for recognising and developing this talent. One of the reasons why this country produces some of the best musicians on the planet. There's so many prodigies in the wings that will blow your mind. Lisa X at 15,Petty Rock at 11 is internationally recognised from Thailand and Ayu from Indonesia are outstanding professionals for their age. All amazing lead guitarists. The two live performances are recorded with the enthusiasm and wonderful performances of a young band riding an updraft.
But now, the praiseworthy live show is about to be buried in the dark.

I agree, totally! I’ve watched a couple of other reaction videos to this track - not musicians tho - and I didn’t see anyone mention it. I genuinely have no idea what the timing is there. It is very clever and I guess must have taken a while to rehearse. I think Akane is just fantastic in those parts, it’s almost like she is hearing the beat, but is playing something different that just fits in as if by magic! A really great track.

I "think" her and Kaname (lead) are using a metronome or something for timing on this piece in their headsets as their is a synch play over on the second "verse" Almost sounds like a 3rd guitar. They have to be on the same timing for it to kick in like that I think.
Im sure a bunch of fans will tell you, theres a sweet Drum solo in the official LIVE "Freedom" track. Like everything this band does, its both top notch but not over the top and she (even then) doesnt lose beat with the main song it is is in. Crazy!
You might find playing back by ear easier on that song too haha. Theres a kid on youtube who does have their guitar parts down pat and posts them for you personal viewing. May help figure out WTH is going on on that 5/3 (I think?)
I'm 52 and love them. You're the first person I've seen mention the 90s alternative sound sometimes...a lot of this song reminds me of Ned's Atomic Dustbin if NAD had much, much better musicians.

Yes, Band Maid is incredible. I grew up on classic rock here in the states. Heart, Boston, Journey, Zepplin favorites. But since 2003, when i found Nightwish, my music is in Japan and Europe, where rock music thrives. You are witnessing Kanami on guitar here. She is such an incredible guitarist and songwriter, composer. Misa is the bassist. Miku is rythum guitar, she worked in a maid cafe in Tokyo, while in school. She thought what a gap, women in maid outfits rocking. Kanami is one of my all time favorite guitarists now, she creates such incredible songs, blending various genres of rock, and music. Onset is a live song, they use to give vocalist Seike a break.
The dragon cries, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination are songs to try. Puzzle is an incredible song, where Kanami packs it with many riffs. Rinne is a heavier riffed song. Jimmy Page went backstage at a show in Tokyo, he caught, and got a photo with him and drummer Akane. He calls her one of best drummers since Bonham. But you can find the pic online. Kanami says Carlos Santana, Larry Carlton were influences. She tweeted a beautiful tribute to Eddie Van Halen, saying how she loved his phrasing and tapping. I found Band-Maid about two years ago while being bored at work watching silly Japanese Music videos. (see Baby Metal "Gimme Chocolate"). They kept popping up in my recommendations, but the thumbnail clearly showed them wearing silly Maid costumes. But hey, that day I was watching silly videos.
OMFG! is all I can say. After you watch and listen to these musicians you will never think of them as silly.
The first thing I focused in on was the Drummer. I had assumed this was just another Pop-Idol group where the girls just sing and dance, looking cute as they do their thing. But from the first ("Start Over") the Drummer was clearly playing a funky tasteful groove. It went from this kind of light guitar pop to slowly built up piece that had me clicking on the next one on the list: "Thrill." A total throwback to 80s Hard Rock nearly Metal. The drummer is sprinkling in double pedals and just keeping it rock solid. At this point I'm impressed and had to keep going.
"Real Existence" is what put me over the edge. Akane (I had read the comments to find out her name at this point) goes completely Keith Moon wild on the drums while never losing control. Each verse, each chorus and the guitar solo all have multiple sub sections on the drums, and it is simply amazing. Simple, but ever moving, changing and perfectly locked into the rest of the music.
So, after watching every last official video on their channel multiple times, made my first iTunes purchase EVER (and first money spent on new music in DECADES) I called up a friend of mine who had played guitar professionally in Japan back in the 90s. "Dude, I just found THE MOST AMAZING Japanese band! and they're all girls! and all dressed up li...." "Oh, you found Band-Maid, here, let me send you a link" ONSET. I think I cried as guitarist tapped her way across the strings.
I've not been THIS into a band since first learning to play drums listening to Rush. They are THAT good.

[start over] as an entry point to the world of BAND-MAID is quite unusual. Many fans dislike it, for some strange reason. I personally love those songs where BAND-MAID ventures into jazz, at least a little bit.
I remember when I first started listening to them, I imagined that they could go into some jazz metal style in one of the later albums. At the time, the only song which really indicated their love for jazz, was LOOK AT ME. Starting with almost a primitive AC/DC riff, and then suddenly switching at 2-28 to almost Herbie Hancock groove... That was amazing.
This expectation is gradually materializing in songs like [start over] and [Wonderland]. BAND-MAID is not really going too crazy about it, but I welcome their attempts at going beyond the narrow confines of one particular style. As Chase Carneson keeps saying, they are indeed important for modern music. And long may they rock!
That part with the different time signature is 5/4, but I only know that because of another reaction video that pointed it out. It doesn't help that the guitar lines all go over a measure and like, end halfway through the next. But if you count it out and just pay attention to Akane's drumming, you can see that it's 5/4.
Nicely done in figuring out that much of it! Much better than I could do, that's for sure.

Band-Maid is a phenomenal band. Bar none one of the best hard rock band at this time. Like you noticed they don't follow the conventional timing like majority of the bands that make them unique. Their songs are very catchy but yet brings in some really hard rock with metal elements in them. I encourage you to listen to some of their other songs in their Discography. Their singer, Saiki, has an amazing voice. Great first reaction to this amazing band. Looking forward for more.
Yeah, as soon as I heard the time signature on that part I was like "what on earth is that?!" - I guess musicians are always thinking about what is happening tune and timing wise whenever they listen to a song.

Hi Dunsy , I think the observation you made about the delay setting ( that is usually referred to as ' dotted eighth delay' ) is absolutely bang on. The sound , ( not the playing , the sound ) is very, very like Pat Thrall on the live Pat Travers album.

They are notorious for messing with the timing of their songs... Band Maid is extremely technical. Wait till you hear their non instrumental songs... make a mental note of how the 2nd verse changes from the 1st. They’re known to do that as well a lot.

Glad you liked Band Maid, what's not to like though. Of all the reactors I've watched, and that's many, you sir are the first one to question the time signature. I've listened to this song for almost a year, hundreds of times literally and still can't figure what the time signature is. I played drums for years and listened to a lot of YES I thought they had head scratching time signatures, but I could always figure it out....let me know when you find out..LOL! Yeah, the guitarist in me immediately thought “I have absolutely no idea where the beat is and what is that time signature?” I spent ages listening to it and I couldn’t even get close. If the drummer in my band came up with that pattern and asked me to play to it I would have to just pack my guitar up and concede defeat!

I'm not a musician, and I know nothing of the time signatures, but I do remember that I was cringing every time I listened to [onset]... The first one hundred times, probably 😂 Then I finally grabbed what she's doing there. It's similar to all those Led Zeppelin Black Dog rhythm shifts, and to what King Crimson always loved to do with their songs. And Kanami is doing it just for fun, to give her beloved Saiki a break!
And this isn't a song they even put on an album.
Yeah, I tried to find a studio version to try and learn the guitar - such a great tune. I genuinely loved this one. I’m a guitar player and the parts are so well put together. That said I know a great drummer when I see/hear one too!
@@DunsysGuitarWorld Their former studio seemed to have something against instrumentals. Look for their song Play, especially the live version. It was originally ment to be an instrumental, but the studio said "No" so they added lyrics.
