I think another big problem holding Daima back is its place in the timeline. Putting it between Z and Super probably made a lot of people feel like it isn't worth watching since it can't change the characters or story too drastically. Which is a shame because the show so far has been pretty fun
Agreed. I also haven't seen yet a reason why it's not placed after super. Make it Beerus is sleeping and Whis is on holiday or something. Not dumber than letting buu sleep in during the super tournament arc. Or not calling the namekian dragon balls to make them big again.
This is true but sadly shows how small minded ppl can be. Yes the characters cant chamge dramatically however we can learn more about lore and the DB universe can expand. For instance the lore we have received about namekians and glinds. It didnt change piccolo or the supreme kai' character but it allowed us as viewers to understand more of their respective races
Dragon Ball needed world building and Akira Toriyama gave it to us..I loved this show more than ever..Dragon Ball needed a story, not battles. The real purpose of this series is clear, world building..
Exactly. I love that while yes the fight with the first Tamagami does have the usual Z/Super energy beam tug-o-war battle that ends every fight, it doesn’t end this fight. The fight actually ends with a silly Shell Game. I love that. That’s so old school Dragon Ball. Toriyama nailed it. His has great characters, not cool looking characters but actual good characters as well as story. Something the franchise has been missing since the Frieza saga back during Z.
Yep, that was the original intent of Dragon Ball Classic, it was an action adventure comedy, why I still love it but rewatching Z or Super feels like a chore. It's better to watch actions sequences in short format like on UA-cam, but in a show it's boring because it's drawn out. Meanwhile there wasn't that much fighting in DBC, it was few and far between, which made it feel like a treat, rewarding when we had a major fight. I haven't watched Daima yet, waiting till its all out to binge, but that's the vibes I got from Daima, a return to form. Even Toriyama said as much during Super, it felt hollow because it was too fighting centric, why he buckled down when making Super Broly, Super Super Hero, and now Daima. May he rest in peace, and hoping part of the problem is majority of people are like me, waiting to binge, feel it will get a major surge in views when it finishes.
the world building doesnt matter at this point because its just adding random fake shit that didnt even happen just for people to feel nostalgia about the original dragon ball. none of whar happens here will matter because its inbetween super and z and we already saw super. why backtrack? what world building do we need? goku gettint majorly nerfed is world building??? okay
Sadly Toriyama's passing was the most marketing Daima got. Edit: A lot of people are confused on what I meant so let me clarify. Toei or Shueisha were respectful of Toriyama's passing and did not use it as an agenda to promote the show. However after hearing this was Toriyama's final project with which he was extensively involved, a lot of people who weren't going to touch this show actually watched it as Toriyama's final work. Daima wouldn’t even be half as popular as it already is without the word of mouth amongst the fandom telling people to give this a shot.
The difference is that Digimon releases are so rare that fans will desperately cling to anything they make. They release a newshow every like 6-7 years, a new game once in a full moon if they feel like it, like if you aren't a fan of the Digimon Card Game, then there's really not much going on for you with Digimon right now. But we don't really have a lack of saturation for new Dragonball content. Games release every other year, we get a lot of movies, Super hasn't been that long yet, the manga is still running strong. If Digimon gets a mediocore series people will be "But at least it's a new series". If Dragonball releases a new series people will just consume the other Dragonball stuff and ignore it. Especially since, unlike Digimon, they know that more stuff is on the horizon.
I think it's due to the fact that original DB never aired in most Western nations. Most of Dragonballs Western fanbase grew up on DBZ. I think Toei still assumes most Western people never watched the original DB, so I guess they didn't bother advertising much for a series harkening back to that same vibe.
The major problem is the fact that it took FOREVER to move forward in the franchise, Then when they finally do the anime comes to a sudden end for some more years, Then when it comes back, they bring in a side story that moves the franchise backwards timeline wise. I actually think it's a really nice story with nice fight scenes and top tier animation. I just think the problem is a lot of people feel like they wanted something that furthered the story that's been beyond dragged at this point. Battle Of Gods was over a decade ago and we do all this just to return to a prequel arc?? How good it is, is being out weighted by what people were actually looking for.
This is pretty much it, right here. I have yet to watch Daima. Z was one of my favorite shows ever (Even if a lot of it was 19 episodes of someone screaming, inner monologuing and powering up before the actual battle). Super was a close adaptation to Z.. though I admit, I didn't care for all the callbacks that CONSTANTLY happened... But otherwise, it was pretty good. I was ready to see the things to come, with Granola, Moro, Ultra Ego and so on... But what's the next thing we get? A prequel arc that basically holds absolutely 0 merit. Again, I haven't watched it. Maybe I'm missing out? Maybe I'm right about it not mattering at all, because it's filling a gap between Z and Super.. But it still felt like having the rug pulled from under me, expecting to get the next arc, and instead, getting an arc that happened before the current series ever started. I don't mind the return to Dragonball style adventures and storytelling... I just didn't exactly want to move backwards to do so.
@@dominiquerobinson8888 it's not the same. Outside video games, Dragon Ball had absolutely nothing going on for like 20 something years before BOG came out. So people were very desperate and that's why it worked. DBS manga still moving forward and two anime movies moved the series forward as well not that long ago which is why this situation doesn't work.
@ The dragon ball story ended with Goku leaving with Uub and GT gave more of a final ending albeit non canon. As far as official content they had the specials, OVA’s, crossovers etc. Daima’s main issue is the story and concept of Goku turning back to a kid.
@dominiquerobinson8888 this literally has nothing to do with what I said. Just say that's YOUR main issue and leave it at that. This new generation of fans not even tripping that hard off Goku becoming a kid again like my generation was with GT. I've seen more complaints about timeline placement than the kid thing. Way more.
I am from Mexico, and no promotion for anime ever reaches my country and yet, other shows and older DragonBall series have gained a lot of popularity except Daima, so I don't think it is just that
Well yes he says that in the video. Daima is more of an adventure series as opposed to an action series. Dragon Ball fans are more interested in the action scenes (power ups fight scenes, ki blasts) then the adventure aspects of Dragon Ball.

Daima is honestly really nice with all of the callbacks, fights, the jokes, and the animation too. It genuinely feels more of a sequel to the original story compared to Super and GT (at least to me personally) Listen, I don’t hate GT and Super. Both of them have their issues yes and so does Daima at times. In my opinion, Daima feels the best out of the three when it comes to capturing what makes Dragon Ball itself next to GT. Is it perfect? Hell no. But it is a nice follow up to the original story’s sense of adventure
it's also quite a cool place to start, I've watched all of db, dbz, dbgt and dbs. But my friend said they'd watch daima with me, and they're enjoying it a lot.
Just imagine it went the other direction. And instead of being made for kids it tried to recapture its original audience, upping the stakes and the violence. That would have been epic
@@jameszahra8087 LOL, I can only see this as satire. Myabe just watch another fan made production with zero character growth outside of actually getting stronger. Then you can be one of the thousands saying how much better than super it is. (or I guess diama in this case)
I like Super better than Daima. Goku still not gonna get character growth. He is just a beat stick. The only character that is getting growth is the supreme kai. Unless they are gonna go back to the demon realm in a later story, none of this has any major impact. Because if your not a Saiyan in DB then you are a story tool that will be forgotten or useless later. Chi Chi, Launch, Tien, Yamcha, videl, yojorobi.

@@snakekingblues3017 because Super was NOT what Toriyama wanted out of dragonball and only did it to appease the power creepers. The OG Fans love this and HATE SUPER.
It’s always been fascinating to me how despite being the biggest anime of all time, Dragon Ball probably has the most divided fanbase of any franchise.
That's exactly what you'd expect to see though? How is that in the least bit surprising? It's one of the biggest fandoms, which means the most people, which means the most opinions. It's way easier to have a pretty universal opinion on something if the community surrounding it is smaller. That said, this is also a case of a show that took an extremely drastic shift in tone from one show to the other, the original Dragonball is extremely different to DBZ. So people who enjoyed the OG Dragonball with have widely different opinions than the fans of DBZ. That is also not in the least bit surprising. And that also explains why Daima is so divisive. People who liked OG Dragonball for the whimsical funny tone will love Daima, since it very much recaptures that. And people who liked DBZ with the higher focus on action and a more serious tone will be put off by how childish Daima is. And that's fine. The REAL problem are the elitists who think that not enjoying Daima means you're not a dragonball fan because you are ONLY a fan if you only like the original series. Which is absolute bullshit. There IS a reason why DBZ is vastly more popular than the original. Denying that is denying reality.
Ive spoken to too many people who dont realize the amount of effort Toriyama put into this. Theres this thought out there that "Now that Toriyama is dead theyre just crapping this thing out against what would have been his woshes" Hopefully the action in episode 9 will be hype enough to drum up more views.
I don't want to be the one to say it, but I do have to wonder, how grifters played a role here. Spreading a false narrative about the show being something made against Toriyama's wishes, when it was in reality Toriyama's last work (simply because they benefit from getting views from an audience willing to buy into the narrative) is very much a grifter thing to do.
@@TeamTowers1grifters? The only person I imagine doing something like this is perfection the natural selection (and smaller clickbait channels) I've heard more positive than negative
The show was announced months before he passed away and was likely finished being written by then as well. Don't know why that sentiment exists when it's blatantly false
I am waiting to binge it honestly. I don't really have the mental capacity to follow a week on week release schedule these days, just too busy, so getting to take a day off work, sit down, and watch the whole thing at once just makes the most sense for me. I did that for Tower of God, Frieren, Apothecary Diaries, Blue Lock, etc. and it has just been a lot more enjoyable than trying to follow a story as it releases
I think not releasing day and date with an English dub was a huge mistake. Dragon Ball has such a big dub following it's baffling to not have it out day 1. The same thing happened with Super taking a year and a half to start its dub
The fact that the dub is STILL not available is insane to me. There isn’t even a planned release date as of now!!! Absolutely agree it should have been released simultaneously; considering that most western Dragon Ball fans prefer the dub to the sub.
Exactly my thoughts. I'm from Argentina and I don't watch anime, but I'm a massive DB fan, and I have always watched it dubbed, from original DB to Z and GT and now super. I'm loving Daima so far, but I'm not eagerly awaiting the next episode just because Goku doesn't sound like LATAM dub Goku. Masako Nozawa is an amazing VA, but I can't connect with her performance just because I'm not used to it
for real. up until the first episode aired i genuinely thought this was "Dragon Ball kindergarten adventures" or something aimed towards an even younger audience. Im actually liking it more than Super as of episode 8.

I really feel like Daima needed a simulcast dub from the start: That plus even a basic amount of extra marketing with a few more trailers I think REALLY would have done a lot. The fact that we're 8 episodes in and we don't even know when the dub is gonna start to become available at all is a huge misstep.
I basically thought that what has happened was going to happen the moment I saw the trailer. I wasn't a hater - I like DragonBall as a whole. But the moment I saw it, I was like, "Welp, this isn't going to do well. At all. It might even just outright fail." Because if you were to ask someone, "Hey, you watched Naruto from start to finish - saw him grow from a kid into a young man, saw his rise to the occasion, saw the most interesting and the most suspenseful times in his life... wanna watch a show where we back-pedal on all of that and try to recapture the clueless era of Naruto?" No. Not because people don't like that, but because it's literally just a feeling of going backwards. It's this idea that - yeah, as a teen, it was fine for me. As an adult, I like that Naruto grew up with me. I don't need to go back in time with them. I don't need the stakes to be brought DOWN. Daima has to try and cater to a fanbase of tens if not hundreds of millions who like Goku punching people real fast while also shooting laser beams from his hands, all while roaring in a big, powerful, RECOGNIZABLE voice...... this is the equivalent of Marvel trying to pitch "what if the Avengers all turned into children for the next Avengers movie." Nobody would like that. JUST that. Like, that's literally the worst part for most people. Not just the adventure (although, yeah, it's not faito-faito). It's primarily making everyone children. Won't even get to the plot if you shut it out the moment you see it.
Also, its the repeat of not only db, but gt too. Dragon ball was peak when it constantly evolved and changed its tone, it got stagnant at the end of dbz. It shouldve ended then and there. Now they give this big brand to much younger and creatively bankrupt youth at toei, this sterilized shell of a series.
@@Woodsaras i dont think the return was bad in fact i think it was great having an ACTUAL adventure gathering the dragon balls again and making each one be guarded was really cool too

Exactly, thank you! I mean I love that a lot of people really like Daima, but for me it's the same. I don't like to see them as kids and I don't like the humor either. I have stopped watching it halfway through episode 4, if it gets good I might pick it up. But like I said, I'm happy for everybody who enjoys it.
I’m in love with Daima. As someone who’s read/watched the original Dragon Ball series, it’s such an amazingly fun return to form for Toriyama. Just a fun, action/adventure story. Plus the animation is absolutely gorgeous
The issue is the dissonance I have to have watching this. If you told me explicitly okay goku is now as strong as when he was a kid. Or as strong as guldo or something. I could get on board. But I'm just like okay why doesn't he just rush through this shit and beat everyone and save dende. Dragon ball worked as an adventure because that Goku wasn't a world destroying space alien. Why does kid Goku go to the bathroom every 5 minutes, why do space ships break to add tension but then just get repaired after Goku does another bathroom scene. It's the adventure, but with the stakes of a drama. Their friend has been kidnapped. Yep goku has no urgency or care in the world
@themangastand8475 Yes I completely agree. Dragon Ball Goku is fun to watch because he just punches a big angry monster and defeats him immediately, but with Daima, for some reason he doesn't really have the same response. I don't really understand why he or Supreme Kai are acting like any of this is a threat when they know how powerful Goku is

It's because most people don't want a show where everyone becomes kids again and the power level is dropped, they want a continuation of Super. As good as Daima is, it's just a side story. It's not the next big Dragon Ball thing, it isn't moving the story forward, it's not the next thing that happens in the story. And everyone knows you can completely skip it and miss nothing because we've had the entirety of Super take place without it existing. I know a lot of OG Dragon Ball fans want things to go back to martial arts and lower power levels, but you gotta understand the majority of fans want Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego and Black Frieza and world-shattering fights. This series had a very negative reaction when it was first announced because it's the opposite of what most fans want, so of course that carried forward into not as much impact.

After GT did the whole "Look everyone, Goku's a kid again!" thing ...poorly, a lot of fans aren't eager or excited for yet another "Look everyone, Goku's a kid again!" arc regardless of how good it is. Also there's a TON of Super that has yet to be animated and this feels intrusive the same way the Virtual World arc stopped the Battle City arc in it's tracks for months and months in Yugioh DM
I mean, that was kinda my perspective too, "why are they doing GT again," and "how good can that actually be?" I gotta be honest, the kid thing is lame, and I wish that didn't happen, but the show is actually pretty good so far. It reminds me a lot more of the OG Dragonball, and that's what I've been wanting forever. Super wasn't TERRIBLE, but it really wasn't great either. It just threw a whole bunch of new forms/transformations at us and continued the same power creep that's been a problem since the damn Frieza Saga.
Your comment about DB being a rare case of fans preferring it in their native language was great research, that's a fact and it would be a genious decision to wait to invest money on marketing once its coming out dubbed.
but why is the dub out later in the first place? making most of your fanbase wait for no reason while post-release hype slowly shrivels up is not how you effectively market your show imo

LORDY, I've never been so happy to climb off the hype train. Whether it's anime, videogames, or movies: marketing committees have no idea what they're doing, and have no incentive to be either honest or realistic.
I've been really enjoying the adventure personally, the exploration of the Demon Realm. Also glad they seem to have gotten their facts straight on a bunch of how stuff in the world works, explaining it properly, much appreciated
I think the largest component of it is that the lions share of the existing fanbase wants more of the heavier more serious tone like towards the end of Z or the Brolly movie. Its part of why people were so disappointed with Goku being turned into a 20iq goofball in super. So when this came out as a light goofy seemingly filler arc where they all turn into kids, no one was interested.
As someone who loved the slice of life stuff in Super, I don't think thats a completely valid take. People aren't necessarily opposed to light hearted fun stuff. All of that is welcome as long as its done well in a meaningful way. Problem is Daima isn't doing that. People shield it by citing old dragon ball but OG DB was far better paced and written and had better character writing even if most of it was jokes. Daima outside of its great animation, just does not do anything particularly well. They should have made this a OG DB story and have it take place in a timeskip after one of the world tournaments. Would have been great revisit of old DB but also the tone and pacing wouldn't need to be this much of a mess because the overall power ceiling of the setting would be MUCH more manageable
There's definitely an overall lack of promotion and a portion of the fanbase that's hesitant to watch it because "Kid Goku! Dis GT ageen!" which is a shame because of the well thought out expansion to the lore and consistently beautiful animation. It feels more Toriyama in a personal way than the typical mondo cool and macho DB that the franchise is widely perceived as. A new, polarizing DB series "side story" was never going to go toe to toe against the new cool kids on the block like DanDaDan. For a legacy shonen anime that's held up for so long, frankly I'm impressed with what Daima has done despite all these drawbacks and will continue to enjoy it!
5:46 maybe they are planning for the marketing AFTER the show ends. Maybe they want the replay more They want to put all the hype stuff in the marketing so they wait until AFTER the show ends They can sell all the figures all the DLC
I think how slow the begining has been doesn't help either. I love it but it's been 8 weeks and we're still in the third demon world, Piccolo and Vegeta hasn't even caught up to the main cast yet. We've really had one real battle (two if you count the Glorio spar)

I think the lack of an ending of Super is the reason why Daima is less successful. When Z finished, that was the ending. And GT picked up where Z left off. But we didn't even know it at the time. Not many people knew what a manga even was. But now with manga pages being uploaded so often in social media, we know that Super isn't over. We know there's 2 whole arcs worth of material just sitting there. But instead of finishing that, they are working on a whole new show? It just makes no sense to me. I think alot of people are turned off by the lack of perceived seriousness the show has. I think it was ill-advised for the cast to become children. I personally dont think it gives off dragon ball vibes. Its still definitely Toriyama but i think its more dragon quest or blue dragon ya know?
Its very much OG dragon ball again kind of. Which is easily the least viewed part of dragon ball. Most fans including myself started at DBZ. So we arent used to dragon ball being an adventure story. We're used to it being an action story where its all about the fights and building up to the next fight and whos stronger.
that's definitely a big thing, people want to watch db on top of the world and "everyone turns into kids and there are poop and fart jokes" isn't exactly gonna make non-db fans treat the franchise with the respect it deserves, so even if i do enjoy daima i also understand that frustration
This is the most Dragon Ball that Dragon Ball has been since the original series right? You really need to watch more of the franchise than just DBZ. Z is actually the outlier, and even that franchise wore its welcome out by the end. Dragon Ball at its core is as much about story and character as it is the fights. Dragon Ball is not all about Goku’s hair color and constant energy beam battles.
@@yadafty7671Exactly. Once again we’re at the situation where there’s Dragon Ball fans, who love the entire franchise vs DBZ fans who have only ever watched Z and nothing else.
I want to like Daima so badly.. especially being able to finally explore the demon realm.. But starting the characters off with a nerf to enter the realm (due to the main antagonist being frightened by their power) just kills so much of the hype for me. Then you have the first two episodes in the demon realm having canon fodder being beat up... yet I'm supposed to be in fear / intrigued by this dangerous demon realm? Its just not doing it for me. Especially when everyone talks about how hype the super Manga got after tournament of power. Literally, no one wanted daima. And it sucks that this was toriyamas final passion project, but for me, it just doesn't match the hype of what came before.
Yeah. And it doesn't really help how toxic the fandom surrounding it is, where if you aren't 100% behind Daima, it's just because you don't understand the epic masterpiece that OG Dragonball was because you're just one of those DBZ fake fans.
Bruh nerfing Goku and the other's strength was the smartest move they could have made. That way we can have fights that require actual martial arts skill like OG Dragon Ball instead of ki spamming and dying hair to win.
its not that i don't get you, but daima IMO is really amazing. Demon realm wasn't ment to be scary or something, its just another world to discover. there is no stakes, true. But see many dbs fans wanted sadala arc from u6- that would go exacly the same as daima.U 6 saiyans are weaklings compared to u7. So it would be simmilar in egzcution. At this point nerf is needed. Look demon realm mostly scales to dabura - cell class enemy. Without nerf it would be cake walk. Look i like dbs manga pretty much but moro arc but see this: -Moro absorption nerfs main cast. - arc takes monts due to moro playing freeza and festing on planets. - goku and vegeta training - vegeta looses - goku wins due to oitside help. I like what moro arc does great, but there are elementa that make it feel average. Daima builds lore in excepent wauly for me. Dbs is more "right now in this moment" kind thing.
The super manga is fine and I eventually would want to see Moro/Granolah arcs animated. But you literally can't talk for everyone saying "no one wanted Daima." I love the show, I think the return to more adventure with moments of action work really well! I feel more hype when the action happens because its not just "goku strong now" (I love that too but not as the only thing.) Plus for the actual fighting, most of it being actual martial arts is so good. Beams and powerups are fun and all but seeing Goku use items from the environment or his pole can be way more exciting IMO
@@Didiworldbingchilling. Yeah OG DB and DBZ have extremely different tones. I feel like most people will give Daima a chance, but the people who don't like the OG DB don't really have any reason to like Daima.
@@Didiworldbingchilling.which is crazy to me because OG dragon ball had some of the most impactful fights like Goku vs king piccolo, or krillin dying for the first time and Goku wanting revenge , and Goku vs piccolo jr
My biggest problem with Daima is its pacing. Ive said it before and i will keep saying it, Daima is SLOOOOW. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the world building, the new lore, etc. But it is so slow. We've gotten alot lore wise but as far as what is actually happening, we haven't gotten very far. And its only emphasized by it being a weekly release. And if you think it's not slow, try watching an episode of Daima then watch Dan da dan. And this is coming from someone who loves the DB franchise. Lastly, I do believe the series will end up speeding up but for it to be a short series, that has been worked on for a very long time, i think it would greatly benefit from releasing 2 episodes a week because these first episodes feel like we learn alot but don't actually move the plot, or location, very far.
I gave it the 3 episode rule and just gave up. Falls flat compared to the og Dragon Ball (one of the few fans that actually did bother watching Goku's childhood when it was advertised on Toonami) which I am a fan of in many aspects over Z which Daima absolutely stumbles the ball on and not helping is the character designs for some of the de-aged characters needed a rework like comparing Chi-Chi from og to Daima is wtf she's chibi and same for Piccolo. The Saiyans don't suffer this problem because they maintain their looks as they age as Vegeta states at the end of Z so no inconsistency there.
You talk about how slow Daima's pacing is, but you then compare it to Dan Da Dan rather the original Dragon Ball story, either Manga or anime. The thing is that if we compare it to a lot of Dragon Ball, this is not slow pacing for Dragon Ball.
@seandobbins2231 my point is to compare it to a more modern show rather than just comparing it to only OG Db. Also Dan Da Dan is still a crazy example but it still proves my point. Dan da dan has so much that happens in the few episodes that are out. Like it's insanely fast paced. With so much that happens. But Daima, we spent what, 3-4 episodes just trying to get from one place to another and trying different modes of transportation? Yeah it helped learn more about the demon realm, but did we really have to spend so long trying to find the most optimal mode of transportation only for each one to not make it that far until they got the latest plane, especially knowing this is going to be a "short" series? Like every episode I've been happy about the expanded lore but alot of the episodes leave me feeling like "Thats it? We haven't progressed much at all" and that's not new for Toriyama. Even Mark himself has had a similar feeling when he was reading the Moro arc. In one of his videos he talks about reading the Moro arc as it released and it seemed so slow with a kinda "meh" payoff when Moro finally tells what his wish was. But when went back and was able to binge read each chapter without the weekly or monthly wait, it was a much better experience and the reveal of the wish made a bit more sense. That's how I feel (and kinda hoping) daima will end up. Weekly watch? Sluggish pace. Binge? Much more manageable and the slown pacing makes more sense when things really go down.
Its just poor writing. The whole show is full of untalented people. Sht story, sht music. All there is to it. Its slow and nothing really is happening.
@@seandobbins2231it is slow, and nothing is happening. Please stop talking about sht that you are clueless about. Also dragon ball has A LOT of contextual material. Dan dan dan show is new and fresh. They have a whole different contexts.
I’m not gonna lie, people who still think that diama is a different continuity from super need to sit down and admit they’re wrong. Like, we got all of this lore about the Kai’s, the universes, and all of these things in dragon ball super, they wouldn’t make lore just to say the series was non cannon. And anyway, most retcons were either good changes or not really retcons. The only retcon that might be a problem is Kibito and Shin un-fusing but that’ll probably be solved by the end of diama.
@seb24789 Watching Z, he was less goofy and less excited about upcoming fights due to other peoples' lives on the matter. In Super, not only is he more goody, but even with the threat of Beerus, he's not as serious.
@@TheTraveler980 buy an uncut oiginal dbz set from frieza saga or cell saga and i wont need to explain, they use to show blood and punch through people, now its all just saturated, i think Goku UI concept and art was really cool tho
I think that initial reveal did a lot of damage. People just assumed it was a goofy show for kids compared to what fans wanted, which was a more serious high stakes story like the Moro arc
and yet this blows GT out of the water and I like it just as much if not more than the other main series. Its a lovely balance of Dragonball and Dragonball Z vibes.
This is project to celebrate dragon balls 40th anniversary This direction was good btw Good lore good world building pacing a bit slow but it is way better than super in terms of writing. You're not a DB fan judging by your comments, this was toriyamas last work, even if you don't like you'd want it do well if you're a fan.
I'm not crying brother it's just a 40th anniversary anime would you rather have nothing than something. It was daima or nothing. This is just a one time thing, this doesn't stop super from coming back they weren't going adapt that in the first place without more arcs because the manga
@@Ashwin-xl9bn I don't like super either. Unless they were to redo it with the manga continuity, art style and don't censor it, then maybe. I'd still have issues with it though.
Fair enough that's what I would do as well rewrite super but with more emphasis on character development and Worldbuilding. On daima from the way i look at daima it'll get other people especially anime fans to give Db some respect for the Worldbuilding and lore. I've seen anime review channels rate daima 10/10 and they aren't even DB fans. And tons of non DB fans give it credit. It's just a short anime to celebrate dragon ball I also prefer z but I enjoy daima at the end of the day it's still DB.
Daima is really something special. It's got me feeling this like awe, wonder, excitement, laughter. It has the epic battles all the db dudebros are wanting, but they're more impactful because of the great storytelling, the fun characters, and the world building.
I personally wouldn’t say it has epic battles. Maybe battle (singular), and it was like 5 minutes long. Glorio vs Goku was great, but Tamagami had me sleeping. Like, this first boss in a budget jrpg looking ass beat Dabura? I’m just not feeling it. Daima’s animation and world building is excellent (especially the recent Buu revelations). The story and premise is falling completely flat for me though. It’s still too early for me to form any lasting opinions, but if things don’t pick up eventually I won’t be remembering Daima fondly.
There wasn't as much to hype up about Daima in comparison to Super. No giga popular Vegito/Gogeta, no tournament arc with stakes, no absolutely steamrolling new form with Ultra Instinct and battles, battles, battles. Many DB bros just love buff men fighting and will tune in to that only.
Yes and no. I would say people like both and not too much of neither. There has to be a balance. Super was too much of fighting and everything else didnt make sense with bad writing and now Diama is too much adventure with good writing but not no action which yes people love db for its action the most but its story as well has to be competent to the lore. Z is the perfect mix. It’s hard to capture that magic again but it’s also very doable.
when 60% of the series is centered around fighting it makes sense that people would want it ,and it’s not like daima has any real stakes since we know it’s before super so it plays a huge role imo
super had the amount of hype it did because of how long it'd been without any new dragon ball content. we still got plenty of new stuff before daima that weren't just video games, so people weren't nearly as starved for dragon ball content
@@multigaming4219dbs also has no steaks. db at this point has no steaks at all. If they die they go to other world. All earth population were there at least twice through whole story.
I’m loving Dragon Quest Daima. It’s the most fun I’ve had with DB since the ToP. I’m just hoping that with all this lore we’re getting, they don’t just forget about it whenever we move beyond Daima.
I haven't heard of Dandadan until it came to netflix. No ads, nothing. With all my youtubers and dragon ball friends. I consistently saw a bunch of dragon ball anime rumors leading to its official announcement. I just think people are genuinely upset, and it shows. Dragon Ball can sell itself. As much as i love Daima. Super needs to come back.
really? i have no interest in dandadan at all but i can't stop hearing people yap about it literally everywhere i go. i only wish i saw people talking about daima, and since i got into the franchise i replaced all the people i follow online with dragon ball fans and it's still mostly everything but super. hell i keep seeing gt fans and i do not like gt. one of them said "um hot take you guys but gt is better than daima 🤓" like first of all no it isn't, second of all, daima isn't even finished so why are you compared a show 8 episodes in that supposedly will only have 20 to a 64 episode show (the same length as fma:b)
8:55 sums it up perfectly. I remember vividly you and geekdom were proclaiming ppl would eventually come around because it’s dragon ball- safe to say that is not currently happening lol. You can’t go from THESE hype, internet breaking moments(Crunchyroll literally broke from people trying to see Goku vs Jiren round 1) to daima’s lack of stakes, slow pacing, and fart jokes and expect to maintain the same audience when Dan da dan and bleach are serving what people want in the same season. You just can’t.
Wait, PELOF AND THE RRA ARE THE LEAST POPULAR SAGAS!?!? Broo those were PEAK for me, I absolutely loved them and it was what really hooked me in on the franchise. Yeah, i like the action in Z and Super, but og dragon ball is like a magical adventure with grounding in reality
Watching Daima has given me Saturday morning cartoon vibes. I let the intro play while I cook some eggs, then I just eat qhile I watch the rest. Nice way to start off the day.
My biggest problem is NOT getting to at least "finish" super before going back in time to a period between Z and Super. Imagine if you will. You just watch Star wars Episodes 1-4....Up next should be Emipre strikes back.....BUT before we get to that movie, I make you watch all of the Acolyte series....Thats how Daima feels to me. I think the concept is cool, I like the idea of going to the demon realm..but can i please "finish" my first show before i get invested in the second?
Bro they could of introduced the demon realm in super it made more sense with the angels counter to wiz and all the angels they would have demons the shit they could of done with that would of had so much potential smh
It’s good but it being set in the timeline where the characters can’t really grow makes it feel like filler. I honestly wish it was placed after super or even after GT that would’ve been more interesting. I know the characters aren’t in danger and the story isn’t gripping me because I know nothing matters overall
my & my brother's povs as old-head watchers: We loved Dragon Ball Z growing up, then Dragon Ball Super was a great trip, partly fueled by nostalgia, but when that ended we kinda... had our fill of it. The Broly movie was a great dessert to top it of, but there just isn't any desire for more Dragon Ball right now. We're simply not in the mood for Dragon Ball at this moment in time following the still relatively recent conclusion of Super. No idea how popular or widespread of a take this is.
Should add that we're also old enough to remember GT and how that wasn't as great as Z. Starting off the marketing with 'Goku's a kid now' definitely helps with giving themselves a handicap for old-heads like us from the getgo.
I can't speak for others but I can say for myself that going from a Multiverse spanning arc that introduces nearly a hundred new characters and different universes with interesting characters.... and then scrapping all that and basically doing GT again has to have been the biggest deflation of excitement for me.
I get it, social media engagement is important in this digital age. But frankly I don't care what anyone else thinks of the show. As a long time DB fan It's genuinely a fun ride. Episode 8's fight was really cool and well choreographed. Seeing the guardian doing Kamahameha motions at the midway brought a big old smile to my face. Seriously show is good. People just to used to being terminally online and have attention spans of a goldfish these days.
This show WAS marketed with a no marketinf strategy. Movies, tv and brand new game are the advertisements. They expect people who comsume any of these will watch. I think they underestimate word of mouth and good will tho. The western fans playing the latest game HATE this show and often Super
The only thing I'm aware of is Toriyama going back to adventure to agitate his editor, because his editors didn't like the adventure aspects due to it falling in popularity. Toriyama trolled a lot and had many targets. From his own team, to readers, and even his own characters. I never heard about him having a specific preference. In fact, the man was a huge fan of kung fu films and admittedly made his protags... His words "dumb" but superhuman on purpose to subvert expectations for the times.
@@LosAlumbradosjust to put it out there, the whole idea of a kung fu manga was Torishima's. Also, it was literally the dragged out action that burned out Toriyama and caused him to end Dragon Ball at the time. Both are things Toriyama has stated in interviews.

But he really did keep nagging me. Well, I got tired of him going on and on about the popularity polls all the time. As long as it doesn't eat into profits too hard I could not give two shits about the social media popularity. I'm just happy to get served peak, the character interactions in the demon world are enjoyable with (imo) non trivial world building being thrown in. The bugs are a big example of this. Yeah I literally have checked stuff a couple times but I think I will stop. Watching it by myself each week is way more enjoyable. Its the way I watched OG DB when I didn't have internet growing up. I don't care what nobody got to say about DB Daima I love it. It gives me that OG Dragon Ball vibes with all the jokes, story, and adventure. Some people you just can't please no matter what they give us.
Most of us grew up with DBZ so adult goku being powerful badass and the series being an action based story is what we're used to. In DBZ it literally is always building up to the next big fight because fights are the main part of the story. Whereas OG dragon ball was an adventure story where you were constantly discovering new things about the world. Most of us dont think of dragon ball as a cute adventure story. Because most of it hasnt been like that
@yadafty7671 See thats the problem people watch Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super but don't go back to Dragon Ball to learn how became soo powerful. I started off with DBZ as a kid and when I learned that this wasn't the beginning I went back to watch OG DB. Ofcourse we love the fights but we need story, lore, joke, and adventure because thats what made DB. The people complaining about DB Daima probably didn't appreciate OG Dragon Ball or like you just said want nothing but fighting just every episode being a Perfect Cell vs ssj 2 Gohan fight. Dragon Ball is more then just fighting people would know that if they really know how Akira Toriyama the creator was.
@Golemoid Lmao only someone who don't like OG Dragon Ball would say some stupid 💩 like that. Unlike you I am a true fan and when I see something is good or bad I speak my mind on it. I love Dragon Daima its OG Dragon Ball.. its a breath of fresh air!! Been here since day one the newest episode goes hard!! People just dont know. Showed two people at the bar last night. they were hype. Haters gonna hate
From my point of view its not breath of fresh air. I watch it and its just dragon ball, with all its magic and fun. Something that super- that i like a lot- mostly leave me disopointment.
Super was cool because, despite the faults, people actually talked about it. Daima feels like a show people tune into once every 3 weeks and then go on without posting or talking about it. I do think the chibi aesthetic had something to do with it since, although I personally love the lore focus, I can admit it's nowhere near as 'hype' or 'cool' as the trailing episodes of super.
The sudden pop DB Super got at the T.O.P arc was a case of study. I remember the news in latin america, like Mexico and my country, the Dominican Republic, reporting that Goku was about to fight Jiren with the MUI. There were rumors that crime rates drop in mexico because of that episode
Im loving this series, its just nice and refreshing over the standard "here is a guy no one has ever known about stronger than everyone previous" its weird they are milking the dub in cinemas instead of just releasing it on netflix but its coming for those waiting on it
why is it surprising that people from entirely different universes have the potential to be as strong as goku and that people woudn't know about it, and if you're referring to moro, he had to drain power to be that strong, granolah and gas wished for that power during their arcs and cell max literally did not exist until his arc
Sucks people only want fighting and transformations. I love Daima as a 23 year old whose Pops showed him Dragon Ball first this is amazing . No repeated fighting animations. Well choreographed. Good world building I love it
Personally, Daima feels like more of a continuation of Z than Super. It was kind of glossed over the fact that Dabura was the kind of the demon realm. Well, what happens to a realm like that when their king goes missing or is killed? Daima answers that and continues the story right after the Buu arc. We get to see their reaction to what happens to Dabura and we begin to learn more about certain characters like Supreme Kai and his people's society. It's also believable that someone like Gomah would make a wish to turn the Z fighters into kids. I also love the adventure style of this story. I love that they're exploring and seeing new things and the way that the story is progressing we will most likely see something like what we saw in the Buu arc. Toriyama gave us a great story with action and adventure. The marketing was and is an issue but also the fans need to calm down with what comes out. I wanted to see the Moro arc as well but the level of lore and story in Daima makes up for that. Maybe we'll see SSJ4 again as well, who knows.

Toriyama’s passing is the reason I heard about it
I think another big problem holding Daima back is its place in the timeline.
And this still chaging the character and the Dragon Ball world MUCH MORE than Super
meh it's mostly bc dragon ball fans are kinda stupid and don't understand fictional timelines. Gundam does it amazingly
I'm just tired of the "in between" nonsense. I just want to go pass the end of Z
May he rest in peace, and hoping part of the problem is majority of people are like me, waiting to binge, feel it will get a major surge in views when it finishes.
the world building doesnt matter at this point because its just adding random fake shit that didnt even happen just for people to feel nostalgia about the original dragon ball. none of whar happens here will matter because its inbetween super and z and we already saw super. why backtrack? what world building do we need? goku gettint majorly nerfed is world building??? okay

However after hearing this was Toriyama's final project with which he was extensively involved, a lot of people who weren't going to touch this show actually watched it as Toriyama's final work. Digimon fans: First time?
Wonder when a new Digimon series will release
@@mhx5071 Toei announced a new Digimon short anime focused on Tai and Matt for next year
The difference is that Digimon releases are so rare that fans will desperately cling to anything they make.
Funny because McDonald's here in Hong kong collabed with DB daima so you see it literally everywhere
I think it's due to the fact that original DB never aired in most Western nations. Most of Dragonballs Western fanbase grew up on DBZ. I think Toei still assumes most Western people never watched the original DB, so I guess they didn't bother advertising much for a series harkening back to that same vibe.
The major problem is the fact that it took FOREVER to move forward in the franchise,
Then when they finally do the anime comes to a sudden end for some more years,
Then when it comes back, they bring in a side story that moves the franchise backwards timeline wise.
The issue is the show itself lol. Cause timeline wise GT was set years after the end of Z. Super backtracks between the gaps like Daima does
@@dominiquerobinson8888 it's not the same. Outside video games, Dragon Ball had absolutely nothing going on for like 20 something years before BOG came out. So people were very desperate and that's why it worked.

It’s always been fascinating to me how despite being the biggest anime of all time, Dragon Ball probably has the most divided fanbase of any franchise.
Any franchise? Let me sing you the song of my people...
STAR WARS
Denying that is denying reality.
because its so big, theres so many diverse opinions
I dont think its that divided. As much as we complain about the series, we still love it and consume pretty much anything they throw at us
Same with Star Wars. Its waay too big for a fanbase to be in harmony, specially following the stereotypes of those fanbases in particular.
Ive spoken to too many people who dont realize the amount of effort Toriyama put into this. Theres this thought out there that "Now that Toriyama is dead theyre just crapping this thing out against what would have been his woshes" Hopefully the action in episode 9 will be hype enough to drum up more views.
that makes no sense given he was super hands on in this show and the reason it didn't come out when he was alive was for the animation to be done
Unfortunately being the creators pet project doesn't garuntee quality
I don't want to be the one to say it, but I do have to wonder, how grifters played a role here. Spreading a false narrative about the show being something made against Toriyama's wishes, when it was in reality Toriyama's last work (simply because they benefit from getting views from an audience willing to buy into the narrative) is very much a grifter thing to do.
@@TeamTowers1grifters? The only person I imagine doing something like this is perfection the natural selection (and smaller clickbait channels) I've heard more positive than negative

I am waiting to binge it honestly. I did that for Tower of God, Frieren, Apothecary Diaries, Blue Lock, etc. and it has just been a lot more enjoyable than trying to follow a story as it releases
Goku vS Tamagami NUMBER THREE was so cool
It was animated movie quality.
I think not releasing day and date with an English dub was a huge mistake. Dragon Ball has such a big dub following it's baffling to not have it out day 1. The same thing happened with Super taking a year and a half to start its dub
I've always been angered and perplexed when that's done
The fact that the dub is STILL not available is insane to me. There isn’t even a planned release date as of now!!! Absolutely agree it should have been released simultaneously; considering that most western Dragon Ball fans prefer the dub to the sub.
Exactly my thoughts. I'm from Argentina and I don't watch anime, but I'm a massive DB fan, and I have always watched it dubbed, from original DB to Z and GT and now super. I'm loving Daima so far, but I'm not eagerly awaiting the next episode just because Goku doesn't sound like LATAM dub Goku. Same here. Daima feels like a return to classic DB and I’m here for it.
Perfectly said. Best comment I’ve seen on Daima thus far
Also, its the repeat of not only db, but gt too. Dragon ball was peak when it constantly evolved and changed its tone, it got stagnant at the end of dbz. It shouldve ended then and there.

Yes I completely agree. Dragon Ball Goku is fun to watch because he just punches a big angry monster and defeats him immediately, but with Daima, for some reason he doesn't really have the same response.

It's like if they started putting out new Naruto episodes in the middle of Boruto (some might actually celebrate that).
0:20 yeah putting anime on Netflix almost never helps
That's just not true anymore Netflix has actually been stepping up in the anime side they are the ones even doing Dandadan.
@@khyreetabron595can't speak for the masses becsuse I'm a hipster for anime stuff, but if we're talking about anime social media engagement: Netflix kinda kills the discussion among hardcore anime fans. They often don't simulcast and focus on dub, their productions are very unevenly funded, their subs when they do bring it are of questionable quality, and few anime fans want to subscribe just to watch one or two shows a season. Oh, and the Binge culture is still controversial for seasonal shows.
Mayhe the mainstream makes up for that, but Netflix isn't really well reputed among those who keep up with seasonal anime
Or just get crunchyroll and stop crying broke boi
I never forgive what they did to Jojo part 6
Im no expert so I can only speculate, but maybe people aren’t talking about it as much because they were expecting something else. I remember seeing a lot of redrawn series from the manga and anime in the marketing and maybe that threw some people off. Either way it’s unfortunate since this is Toriyama’s last gift to dragon ball fans
THIS! It gives off Blue Dragon vibes
The series is awesome, literlly a breath of fresh air. People are always gonna complain while us fans are enjoying every episode. GODO
@@Drums_of_LiberationYou can nerf them without turning them into FUCKING KIDS AND GETTING RID OF GOTEN AND TRUNKS
its not that i don't get you, but daima IMO is really amazing.
Look i like dbs manga pretty much but moro arc but see this:
-Moro absorption nerfs main cast.
- arc takes monts due to moro playing freeza and festing on planets.
- goku and vegeta training
- vegeta looses
- goku wins due to oitside help.
Daima reminds me of OG DragonBall and it's so much fun to watch.
I hope everyone gives it a chance
They won’t because not every dragon ball fan has seen the OG dragon ball
@@edwardjones1482also not every dragon ball fan actually liked og dragon ball even after watching it. For the record I did but not everyone would.
@@Didiworldbingchilling. Yeah OG DB and DBZ have extremely different tones.
I feel like most people will give Daima a chance, but the people who don't like the OG DB don't really have any reason to like Daima.
@@Didiworldbingchilling.which is crazy to me because OG dragon ball had some of the most impactful fights like Goku vs king piccolo, or krillin dying for the first time and Goku wanting revenge , and Goku vs piccolo jr
yea I get it because there are extremely good fights in there but some stuff just don’t hit the same for everyone’s tastes .
For me, the retcons and the clear fact at this point that it's an alternate continuity from Super honestly just killed my interest.
What retcons?
I’m not gonna lie, people who still think that diama is a different continuity from super need to sit down and admit they’re wrong. Like, we got all of this lore about the Kai’s, the universes, and all of these things in dragon ball super, they wouldn’t make lore just to say the series was non cannon. And anyway, most retcons were either good changes or not really retcons. The only retcon that might be a problem is Kibito and Shin un-fusing but that’ll probably be solved by the end of diama.

It’s still too early for me to form any lasting opinions, but if things don’t pick up eventually I won’t be remembering Daima fondly.
hop off the glaze lil bro

That's not a really fair comparison.

It’s good but it being set in the timeline where the characters can’t really grow makes it feel like filler. Daima is so freaking good, man. Its as good an anime as I've seen lately.
my & my brother's povs as old-head watchers: We loved Dragon Ball Z growing up, then Dragon Ball Super was a great trip, partly fueled by nostalgia, but when that ended we kinda... had our fill of it.
Starting off the marketing with 'Goku's a kid now' definitely helps with giving themselves a handicap for old-heads like us from the getgo.
and oldhead woulda watched the OG too. This is more of that, and it's awesome.
...but making them kids was still a bad decision.
I can't speak for others but I can say for myself that going from a Multiverse spanning arc that introduces nearly a hundred new characters and different universes with interesting characters.... and then scrapping all that and basically doing GT again has to have been the biggest deflation of excitement for me.

Bro I'm just waiting for the english dub 🙏
Edit : my mistake , no idea it was going to be a mini series !
@@MrSatnavatronthe dub is not on Netflix yet and they’re on what the 8th Japanese episode? The Netflix episodes are all subbed
It's not on netflix @@MrSatnavatron
Dub weakling
Cringe, just watch subbed, almost always the sub is significantly better in tone, faithfulness to the source material and range...
Sucks people only want fighting and transformations. I love Daima as a 23 year old whose Pops showed him Dragon Ball first this is amazing . No repeated fighting animations. Well choreographed. Good world building I love it
right ? don’t get me wrong i love all of db-dbs, but daima is better choreographed than most fights. i’m loving daima so far
I’m 24 and I’ve seen OG dragon ball , Z , GT and super and I’m loving daima it gives me OG dragon ball vibes
No, people want GOOD STORIES. Stop yapping about sht you are clueless about
@@edwardjones1482 exactly so much adventure and the fights are amazing
well if it doesn't have it nobody is gonna watch@@TwizzyTwann
