Very interesting, I’ll have to utilize those sites… the clean up was perfect…glad you didn’t try to reinvent the thing….some tools need to be left looking untouched!
Thanks again for the treasure chest of great tools!
First off thanks for keeping the patina on that beauty …those marks are a map of a 100 year life…
Book marked the three sites…THANK YOU…
Thanks Chuck! This type of preservation is what I do the most, it just never ends up on UA-cam!
I upload a lot of stuff to Archive, I even put 85 years of Popular Mechanics on there years ago.......When Mom died I even scanned old manuals to things like bicycles and lawn mowers that she still had and put them on there before I shredded them.
Thanks for adding to the archive!
Little late to this video, but great information! What I think is cool about old vintage tools was the pride of ownership they took back in the day. The detailed markings give old tools so much character.
I find researching this history of the old companies to be a fun part of the hobby.
This is awesome information. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jeff!
Good stuff Bud!! I have that same can of Wax, must have been in the family for 60 years!!☻
My dad always used Johnson's paste wax. My can is getting empty and I was thinking of trying a fancier wax, but I may just stick with old faithful!
Some gun restoration guys use toilet wax ring wax. It's cheap and available.
That's nice little wrench. Sympathetic restoration. Nice job.
Thanks Chris! Most of the clean ups I do are this type they just never become videos.
Thanks for the information on searching for old tools.
Those wooden handles are either waterproof or unaffected by water as my old monkey wrench was a rusted mess when I bought it. I threw it in vinegar and forgot about it for 3-4 weeks. The scales were totally unaffected and I managed to preserve them.
Unfortunately there are no markings preserved on mine at all to unearth it’s history.
It is a bummer when there's no markings!
Kudos to the shout out to three great websites.
Thanks Lyndon!
Great information! Those wrenches are so much harder to restore then they look.... =D
Thanks ScoutCrafter! They are really not made to be easily disassembled.
Chuck’s monkey is cute. I wonder who decided to catalog all that tool data? What a research product!
Chuck's buddy is named Merle! He followed me home from an engine show last year!
Thanks for the sites to wander off into and not be back for awhile.
Those are good sites to get lost in for a while!
Thanks for the video, very useful. I was trying to remember the alloy-artifacts site just a few days ago. Good to be reminded.
The wrench cleaned up very well. That was a beefy design.
Dave.
I've always liked this type of wrench. I remember using one to work on my bike as a kid.
Another great video and love the resources as well. Rock on magdad!
Thanks!
I'm a sucker for these perfect handle tools. I can't pass them up when I run across them. Great video. Alloy artifacts will be super helpful with all the random antique tools I collect.
Perfect handle tools are very popular! Alloy Artifacts is a great site!
Very informative video! And very cool little wrench! Mr. John is a good'un and a fine Southern Gentlemen👍 enjoyed it and appreciate hearing the process! Thanks!
Thanks Vic! John's box of tools is a treasure chest!
A handy tool for building, repairing and upgrading your sentry gun, dispencer and teleporters
Works on metric, SAE and intergalactic fasteners!
Very informative Magdad. I've used alloy artifacts but haven't ever heard of the other two. I will add them to my arsenal. Thanks for sharing. The wrench turned out great.
I'm glad the info was helpful!
Thanks for the info. I have a lot of tools from my grandfather and my dad (still use them). It will be nice to know more about them. As always I love the tool restorations and clean ups. I don't get into it as well as you do, but I do clean them up and make sure every one stays in working order.
Learning about old tools is a fun part of the hobby!
Nice cleanup Magdad. You gave us a lot of good information. Thank You
Thanks Jack!
I think I have seen you post comments on other people's videos referencing alloy artifacts. Honestly I haven't looked it up yet but I will surely be spending a lot of time there. Thanks for the guidance.
Alloy Artifacts is a great website!
I love a good preservation. Beautiful!
Sometimes all they need is a clean up!
Thanks Magdad! You're a wealth of information!!
Researching old tools is fun!
Very good information Magdad! I always wondered what web sites you used. Thank you for making this video sir. 👍🇺🇸
Thanks Roger! Researching the old tools is a fun part of the hobby!
Very useful information. Alloy Artifacts is a great informational channel. It gets better over time as new info is added. The variety of tools created over the decades is almost unbelievable. The wrench turned out beautifully. If it could talk it would thank you.
Thanks Pat! The US used to be a manufacturing giant!
This is going to be hugely useful, thanks so much!
You're gonna like those sites!
Very interesting video. It was surprising to see the Evaporust didn't damage the wood. I've always kept the handles sticking out of it. Good music in the background as well. Makes me want to go grab something out of the flea market bag of tools and clean it up.
Subscribed.
Thanks for subscribing! Learning about the old tools I find is as much fun as cleaning them up!
Awesome video! Alloy Artifacts is a great resource. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I agree!
Great video Magdad. Thank you 😃👍🏼
Thanks David!
I like that you kept the finish looking old
This is the type of clean up I do the most. It usually does not become a video.
Love this video Magdad! You know I love the tool history :-). Always wondered how you and Chuck did your magic.
Thanks! We are happy to share!
Those are very useful sites to get information. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Tony! Learning about the old tools we find is part of the fun!
That was game changing info. You are the man, thanks so much!
Thanks! I use these three sites all the time!
Thanks for sharing your resources.
You're welcome David!
Thanks for the lesson, Coach!
You're welcome Jeff!
Thanks for such a useful video. It might be as useful for me as your heat-shrink, Dremel brush tip!
Thanks Jason! I was using one of those heat shrinked brushes today!
Great sites for research for sure...those are the ones I use mostly as well, and google patents sometimes. That's a cool lil Wrench ..it came out real nice!
Thanks D&R!
Great information! Nice job on the wrench!
Thanks Mike!
Excellent, thanks for sharing the web sites. Being a guy who occasionally tries his hand at restoring old tools, the links should be of great value. Much appreciated.
Thanks David! Learning about the old tools is a fun part of the hobby!
Well done, subbed.
Sometimes I have used a little "cold blue" on tool and anvil clean ups like this. Van's Instant Blue, a company out of Wisconsin has one I like, does not look fakey, has a natural, believable look to it and you can wax over it like you did here.
Thanks for subscribing! Check out my bluing video playlist!

Great info onn those sites Magdad, I already use the first two, great resto as well, what a lovely little wrench and always so nice to have clear maker's marks 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧✌️
Thanks Phil! I think you're gonna like the catalog archive site!
Wow, that was some super interesting info!
Thanks Chris! Researching the tools I find is fun!
The Internet Archive I find to be a great site and one where you join you can download all manner of stuff from PDFs of catalogs to music and photos. I donate to them regularly.
Mrs Magdad and I donate to the sites every year also.
The Garage Journal is also a good source for tool fans.
Garage Journal has a very good Craftsman manufacturer code chart!
Great video and content!
Thank you!
Great info and clean up!
Thanks Tom!
Thanks for the info. It will come in handy.
I use these three sites all the time!
Thank you. Awesome.
You're welcome Juan!
That was really interesting thanks for sharing buddy
Thanks! Researching the tools I find is a fun part of the hobby!
Great info, thank you for that.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Good information. Over the weekend I have been looking for information on a monkey wrench also. Checked Alloy Artifacts couldn't find anything. Might be me not real good at it. I will definitely try the other places you gave to look. Thanks
I hope the other sites help Glen!
It may please you to know that you have inspired me to restore vintage tools and even video some, my first video is up and I am loving it as a hobby so thankyou.
Wow, that's great! Hunting for, cleaning up and learning about old tools is a great hobby! I'm looking forward to watching your video!

Thanks for the information Magdad! I have a Stanley No. 51 Spokeshave that needs cleaning and I would like to know a little more about it so I will use these links.
Stanley tools, especially planes and spoke shaves are very collectible. I bet you can find some websites devoted especially to them.
thanks
You're welcome!
Cool old wrench I've tried plastic brush on the dremmel it didn't last long how they working for you it's cleaned up and back in service
I've been having success with the plastic wheels. The little wire wheels were not lasting very long and were spraying little wires everywhere!
@@357magdad maybe I'm running to fast my Drexel don't have but one speed full blast
Thank you so much. I've been trying to find information on how these wrenches were made. I've been wondering how the head of the wrench is attached to the body of the wrench. Is it forged on or something else like pressed fit?
Thanks for watching! I don't know how the upper jaw is attached. I've never had a monkey wrench where it was loose, so it must be done very securely.
I actually bought one of those today Magdad. Not that convenient small size you've got though.
I plan to post some photos of this one next to its big brother on Instagram.
Baby Engie
How did you keep Chuck away from the wrench with his Flitz !!.
Chuck was busy getting ready for the Easter Bunny!
Ejoyed the video and the end product. I have a black powder revolver I finished in white I protected the metal with JPW after maney soap and water cleanings after shooting no rust. JPW is good stuff.
Thanks Michael! My dad always had a can of JPW in his shop.
Was this the wrench used by Bugs Bunny?
This is the little brother to Bugs' wrench. I'll have to post some photos of them together on Instagram.
Was that wrench plated? I never seen one so shiny before
Thanks for watching! The wrench is not plated. This is what they look like clean!
@@357magdad I better try some of your methods then, only reason I could think of for some of mine looking different could be metal composition, of course most of mine have some kind of pitting on them while yours has none.
@@maxswagcaster5315 Evapo-Rust does a nice job of getting down to bare metal. Check out this S wrench project:

Chuck sat this one out huh? Another audition?
He's busy getting ready for the Easter Bunny!

Thanks.
