Food Village Takashimaya cai fan store also have. But it wasn't very yummy cause they already fried and place there hours ago. Soggy yam plus it wasn't cheap (IIRC that alone was $5)
This was a fun video haha! I enjoyed the style and jokes about getting most expensive economy rice. Nasi Padang is actually almost the same I guess but still can get expensive pretty quickly lol! Looking forward to more of this series. Also try to get the cheapest expensive something too doesn't have to be food though.
5:13 That's the name of the cai fan stall at the MBS food court Rasapura. It's called Jia Jia Le Cuisine. It is also a cai fan chain like Chang Cheng featured in Stall 3. Jia Jia Le is well-known for being possibly the most expensive cai fan in Singapore, due to them having a large variety of food items that are specially priced and not part of the 2 vegetables + 1 meat set. Of course the location play a part in the cost, but even in other food courts in Singapore serving Jia Jia Le cai fan are expensive as well, with prices easily hitting $10 to $20+ price range. That being said, even though their cai fan is expensive, it is also possibly the best tasting cai fan in Singapore with their food tasting consistently good and maintaining the quality control throughout all their chains. Some other cai fan chains might have food items that taste inconsistent, due to difference in skills of their chefs in different outlets, but for Jia Jia Le the taste is quite consistently maintained.
I think the fact that you're filming prevents any over charging that's unreasonable. You didn't go Vivo though, the cai fan stall in Vivo also infamous for being expensive.
@@50ftbelow54Yes just walk away if you find the charges are unreasonable. Unfortunately though Singaporeans haven't learnt that boycotting is a powerful consumer weapon!!
Even at $22, the first plate is a good deal. And no local would order that many dishes at any economy rice stall. Maybe repeat this challenge by ordering the same 2 meat, 2 vegetables from each stall?
The confused look from the stall seller are just priceless when you request for the most expensive. I will suggest for an episode with ordering all the dishes from caifan stall and see how expensive will it gets to.. 😂
Where is the first location of that cai fun store? I’ve nv see yam ring in cai fun b4. Eager to try out as I like yam ring a lot. Please disclose the location. Appreciate that.
Kenna conditioned by hype. For example, you eat KFC, how many chicken rice that price can buy? KFC raise prices like siao last few years and no one say anything (but like not many buy liao) but chicken rice raise price then people feel it
@@eymaslackerbcos chicken rice is a mass consumer food in comparison to KFC which may appeal mainly to younger people n children. The elderly seldom if ever eats KFC preferring local hawker delights.
You got it wrong ohjisan. When people said it expensive it included vegetables. For example expensive 2 vegetables plus a meat could total up to 7 dollar to 20 dollar while normal price range is around 3.6 to 5 dollar
Nasi padang and Cai fang is different though 😅. Nasi padang the fish/beef/mutton can go up to 8-10 dollars. This pricing is also in schools like Universities.
Can i please have the address of the cai fan with yam ring? Oh and i really enjoyed this video! It'll probably be really fun if we start a segment on guess how much my caifan is? 😂😂😂
You should order by splitting into separate plates with a few side dishes, if you are checking on the social media "complaints". Sometimes, the "markup" comes about because the plate is served with rice as a "complete meal", and not because of the cumulative cost of the side dishes.
Nobody buys that much food, usually 2 - 3 items. Except you and me. lol Once in Singapore I went to a Nasi xxx stall and was charged way more than the person in front of me. No prices were displayed so I didn't know what it was going to cost. I said "is this the tourist price?" The woman said "No, you just eat too much expensive food." Hahaha! Can you do a video explaining the different Nasi names? Nasi Kandar, Nasi Padang, Nasi Campur, Nasi xxxx?? I've seen all different names, but looks like the same type of food service?
Well everything had been getting more and more expensive over the years. When I started working around 25 year ago, Cai Fan used to cost $2 for 4 dishes in Golden Shoe Foodcourt in Raffles place. Ghib cai fan dish, my estimation was quite close before he reveal the price as type of dish and location can sometime give the estimate before even ordering.
0:43 According to wikidictionary 什 is used as an alternative to 杂 in this case, so it should be za cai fan, which i think thats how everyone calls caifan in full. Probably because in dialects the two characters have the same sound and this is easier to write.
I am sure you are paying for what we ordered. It's a pity that you didn't get to order Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang. It will definitely be a bomb/ Perhaps even more expensive that MBS one
nice video ! it will be better if the woman can put the promfret in a separate plate for you. In Malaysia we call this mixed rice CHAP FAN instead of cai fan. I love watching your video !

wah this is crazy! alot of food per dish. whahahaha. how you finish?. A pity u didn't standardize. like can order 7 dish per stall. so it is much more comparable
This is insignificant, but in case you are really interested in learning Chinese, the word “什” is one of those annoying words with multiple phonological readings. In this case (of the name of the caifan store), it will be [shí] from 什锦[shí jǐn] (which means "variety", thus in Singapore Hokkien we call chap chai peng - variety dish rice. It came from this word) not the more commonly known [shén] from 什么[shén me] which simply means "what". :D

Wow i never seen caifan with yam ring before, yam ring is usually tze char dish
Nowadays got frozen yam rings by supplier. Just buy and fry only for premium order
Food Village Takashimaya cai fan store also have. But it wasn't very yummy cause they already fried and place there hours ago. Soggy yam plus it wasn't cheap (IIRC that alone was $5)
If they failed to sell in the afternoon, might pass over to tze char store to refry n sell...
Food court 3rd floor Suntec City cai PNG stall has.
For MBS, even though its the most expensive, the colour and dish seems more premium.
MBS Cai Fan = Casino Cai Fan. For winning casino fans.
Cai = 财 (Wealth)
Fan = 饭 (Rice)
If you get it from a Malaysian Chinese, it could be 猜饭 ... They always leave you guessing on the final price.
Ghib: ‘you wanna guess how much my cai fan cost?’
Auntie: ‘no’
😂😂😂
3 things that need to be illegal in Singapore
1.PMD on road

For cai fan, even 5 or 6 is illegal lol

Tbf, 22 dollars for the first plate of caifan looks great and worth it's price, considering the amount and variety of the food!!
You turned economic rice into luxury rice XD
First class rice
Your first portion of Cai fan reminds me of the humongous portion of food in US.
Hahaha… haolian, well done 😂
