  • This video is a review of the Harbor Freight 72"x9" steel ramps. I made some modifications to help improve the design. This is how I did it.

    Nice lifting table bro. I am a engineer for Ford and we use lifting tables like that to move units down the assembly lines. I see it has hydraulic lines so that is a brilliant little piece of equipment you've made

      Thanks. I can't take the credit for the lift because they are Quick Jack lifts (dont recommend at all) I just built the platform for on top. I still use it every day to keep my bike on. Thanks for watching.

    Great video, thanks! Need to off-load a heavy 2 stage snowblower from my pickup. These should do the trick.

    Just bought these today need to load my Harley on a trailer. Would have never thought to double them up like that and put an eye bolt at the bottom for rigging. Great video 👍

    Very good video. My instructions manual showed the tongue extension under the ramp. Your video proved the reason. I saw several videos the had these installed correctly. You added the safety straps. Once again, other videos failed to do this and proceeded to drive their ATV up the ramp. Appreciate someone providing a safe procedure. You proved one cannot trust everything one sees on UA-cam. GREAT JOB!

      Thank you. I am glad I was able to give you some answers. I thought it was weird that my instruction had them on top. Probably a mix up from someone who never saw the product. lol Thanks for watching!

    Nice R6! I was just looking to see if this would work for my R3 to load on my truck, and glad to see we can do this modification to make it better.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  3 роки тому +1

      This is late but the answer is most likely no unless the truck is lowered. You will most likely bottom out once you get it to the most dangerous point of the lift. I bought this to load my bike in the truck. The cheapest place to buy it was from Amazon even compared to buying it directly from the company with discounts.

      @@DaveMedicus Thanks, I haven't tried it yet fortunately! I can imagine bottoming out. Thx for the recommendation on the ramp. Those look like the best one to go with for my truck.

    Hello, I'm getting on a bit where my age is concerned, so I got rid of my big trailer and bought the HF one that holds 1700 pds. I have a Polaris 450 Sportsman, that weighs around 686 dry. I would like to use these ramps for that HF trailer and machine. Would you trust these ramps for that application? Thanks, and great video!

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  Рік тому

      My only concern would be the with of the tires vs the width of the ramp. There would not be much room for error.

    • @da324
      @da324 Рік тому

      @@DaveMedicus I was worried a little bit about the weight, but I'm confident I could do that. Thanks!

    Dave. Your way is the correct way. Harbor Freights instructions on their website show your way. I guess they changed them.

  • @Orvis25
    @Orvis25 5 років тому +3

    when y ou bolt the ramps together in side by side, does the supporting weight become 1k?
    I know EACH ramp is rated at 500lb, and in combined its 1k, but i am assuming the 1k rating is from a 4 wheels vehicle with the weight distributed exactly even between the two ramps.
    Curious if you would risk something like a 850LB honda goldwing on this method.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  5 років тому +1

      Orvis25 I would just use stronger bolts to put them together with. I feel that you would be using the strongest part of the ramp and the bolt would be the only fail point.

  • @rustynail6819
    @rustynail6819 5 років тому +2

    the brackets are mounted UNDER the ramp which you correctly did! Mount them on top and you risk the ramps flexing and failing which will not be good. Unfortunately these ramps don't come with safety chains. I would highly recommend getting chains for these so you can chin them to your truck. If ramps kick out while you're loading you can really get hurt!

    My only concern is that for a ramp that is rated to 1000 LBS there's an awful lot of flexing with a bike that weights barely 500lbs. My HD Heritage is 750LBS.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  Місяць тому

      Its solid. I have a ramp that as rated for 2000 lbs and it flexes too. It will hold up as long as you are not doing anything crazy. They are all under rated. Thanks for watching.

    Was that a plywood built ramp seen near the rear of the platform and to the left looking toward the garage door?!?!?

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  3 роки тому +1

      Yes it was. I was just using the platform as a test for the height. I use the plywood one on a normal basis when its sitting on the ground.

    I doubled mine with the intention of riding up and down my truck. Well it was sketchy as hell going up due to there not having any support to lean on, and while getting it down the front wheel fell half way down, thankfully its a dual sport but screw all that noise

      I use this to get my bike in my truck. This ramp really only served a purpose for the haul trailer or my stand. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W53FKKS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

      If you were on the receiving end it felt like almost nothing happened. The first way felt like it was going to snap right off. It does flex a little bit but it feels solid

    • @thomaspmcguire
      @thomaspmcguire 3 роки тому

      Also it's going to bend when you just have the edge against the surface instead of the flat part against it as it should...

    So what really is the purpose of the platform other than to overhaul the bike? Do not follow why you need to elevate the bike, as it appears to be too wide of a platform to work around the bike.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  5 років тому +1

      William Brock it’s the perfect width to work on the bike since there is room to place my tools. I use the ramp every day to store the bike under my house. It makes it real easy to use the wheel chock since the concrete is sloped and we often get 40+ mph winds which would blow the bike over. I can also use my pitbull rear stand to work on the bike easily. It’s not for everyone but it works great for me and was worth every penny when moving.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  5 років тому +1

      William Brock if you watch the video of me making it you will see what I was up against and it will make more sense to you. Thanks for watching.

      Thats not what it was for. I used it to get into a haul trailer. The platform was just for a test. If you watched it all you saw that I raised it up to 22"
