  • Creator of the London Station Mosaic Roundels - Maud Milton studio interview
An interview with artist Maud Milton at her studio in Trinity Buoy Wharf at Leamouth East London where she creates the beautiful mosaic roundels that you can see at railway stations around London. Maud was working on a new roundel for Selhurst Station during the interview.
Among the roundels Maud has created are: Gospel Oak, South Tottenham, Thornton Heath, Walthamstow Central, Leyton Midland Road, Leytonstone High Road, St James Street, Chingford, and Highams Park.
Shot at Trinity Buoy Wharf, 2021 by John Rogers

Brilliant community project. Far superior to the work done by D. Hockney for Piccadilly Circus. Give the London mayor a call, he needs to see these designs.

I'm proud to say that I've contributed to both the Thornton Heath and Selhurst roundels. Both include
tiles with impressions of daisies as that's my name! 🌼
Thank you Maud for your fabulous creations and "the amazing Averil in Thornton Heath" for thinking of me to contribute to these art works.

Brilliant . I noticed the Gospel Oak one the other week ,on the way to the Lido for a swim. We could do with one for one of the 4 stations in Kilburn, or the 4 stations in West & South Hampstead

Can't believe how blown away I was by this. Just the first couple of minutes had me mesmerised. I was reminded of Islamic design, only instead of the fearful symmetry, there were all those soulful details.
I thought I would be happy never to visit London again, but I hope I can one day make a slow train pilgrimage to see all the roundels.
(Give me an Arts Council grant and call me a critic, but I think these works are worth so much more than David Hockney's silly Piccadilly Circus job.)

This resonates with my neighbourhood of Cedar Cottage in East Vancouver. The south end of Commercial Drive is known for its series of large round mosaics, which decorate the retaining wall that borders Clark Park. There are also a large number of small sidewalk mosaics around nearby Trout Lake, as well as a number of larger installations in the nearby Grandview and Woodlands neighbourhoods to the north of Cedar Cottage. Perhaps I should post this on our community Facebook page and see if it inspires anyone.

I am sure there must be corporate work out there be it internal or external. There are small modern architectural studios that use creative art in their design. This type of art was around on buildings in the 1930's, most now gone. At least your portfolio of work is visible everywhere.
