you cant have the rear mount below your shoulders. thats why you need a bar, or like I did in my vw for auto x to pass tech you can mount it to the rear upper mount on the c-pillar
On the note of first car that everyone used to struggle to work on and struggle to get into the car scene and to struggle to get into racing, money does not buy a ticket in. I bought a JDM 300zx TT in perfect working order. I am so lost when it comes to working on it, how to modify it tastefully but still make it my own. Fixing little things that happen here and there with maintenance. I am just so lost that it sits garaged more often then not and have no change to it aside from my having watching a UA-cam tutorial on how to resolder the cruise control chip to raise the limit from 107kmh/66-67mph to 148kmh/89mph. My first project car was a 2001 Toyota celica GT. By the end of it I basically had a new car. I had to replace all the struts, both rotors and drums, break pads and shoes, radiator, radiator cooling fans, upper and lower hoses, spark plugs, spark plug coils, battery, and it’s fuel injectors. It ran great for like a week then the head gasket blew. I then rebuilt the engine and sold the car to get into an FR-S. My dad and I did all the work our selves. It was a great learning experience and really made me appreciate my car. It made me appreciate my FR-S more. I now have a 2018 Toyota C-HR and I can’t wait to make it fast. It will be a total sleeper.
My first project car is and forever will be my only project car. 1985 Mustang GT. The fox platform is one of the best out there for beginners and veterans alike. It is strong, light, modular, and has a HUGE aftermarket. You can stiffen the chassis, aftermarket K-member, suspension, brakes, tires, drivetrain, etc. You name it, you can do it. First car/project car was a '91 VW Jetta GLI. The 16v was strong, shifter was awesome after I rebuilt it, factory BBS and Recaros were awesome. Had to get a new battery, radiator hose, full fluids and brake service including master cylinder before I got my license. Biggest regret was eventually selling it when I got a 4th gen Camaro. It was great at J turns and backroads!

There was also my wife's first vehicle I didn't drive much, which was a '94 Ranger I called "too drunk to truck" that was really just maintenance and repairs. My first project car and first car was a 2006 Mazda 3 NA 2.3 5spd sedan. I blew 2 engines. The stock one at 131k. Got three car with 11k. Then the next engine blew at 48k miles and it had 31k when it went in. Now I’m second 2.5 out of a 2012 Mazda6. I plan on boosting it and make around 330 or so hp. It’s been a fun 2yrs with this car
Putting harnesses in stock seats without a harness bar does nothing but make the car dangerous, someone needs to give this kid some help before he hurts himself
An improperly installed seat belt is far more dangerous than just about anything else "tuners" do. I've seen the results, it's not pretty. Do it right or not at all.
I’m on my first project and it’s a v8 swapped 1971 Datsun 240z, that my grandfather bought new off the lot in Memphis in 1971. Once he passed away we lost the heart to do it so it’s just been sitting in our garage for 3-4 years and I’m finally getting impatient enough to do it.
That’s basically how my sr s13 is. My shifter is perfect but I’m pretty sure because my coilovers are blown and definitely installed by someone that doesn’t know how to. And the alignment is off. I checked my ball joints and tie rods and they’re good. But driving it you definitely feel like they’re gonna break and you’re gonna smash a barrier
Smiles per gallon... You better smile or the car will get upset. For a kid's racecar its awesome. That thing probably has bad bushings and ball joints causing the sketchiness when getting off throttle. I wish i would've done something like this at 16.
You forgot about the supercharged 2.0L. My 2000 Golf GLS 4 door is Neuspeed Supercharged with 340,000km on it. I’m the original owner too 😀. Full GLI Recaro interior and a complete Oettinger body kit. It’s in prestine condition with no rust and original Indigo blue paint. German made as well. Love the car. Eventually pass down to my kids.
I did this to my gen 7 celica with the 1zzfe motor. BEST CAR I EVER owned! There is something different about a true race car (one that is paid off and you dont mind wrecking). I driven 911 gt3s, Camaro ss1le, and currently own a modded brz. BEST CAR by far was my gen 7 celica. RIP. This kid is doing things right with his golf.
91 Nissan sentra b13 ga16de had small cam upgrade exhaust and 2 step that sounded like a roll of black cat fire crackers going off sadly the oil pump went out and slung 2 rods threw the block, I still made it another 2 miles before she died and the best part was it had 195hp but she only weighed 1350 so she was really light and nimble I named her the shit rocket because she looked like hell but was pretty quick
Don't know if the owner will read this but if you really want to and the 1.9 tdi is available in the US for cheap, I personally would consider swapping to one of those engines. Reliable as hell, revs to 7k with a lightened flywheel and mountains of torque for such a small engine ^^ big turbo, forged Pistons and an engine map and you are looking at about 200 to 250 reliable horsepower with about 500 Nm of torque.
NETGLOW id rather keep my 20VT Never heard other stories than "slow. And not that fuel efficient" from 2.0"s Also im addicted to the torque my mapped GTI makes
Quco I think NETGLOW is from a country that got the naturally aspirated 1.8l single cam engine which was just an updated 1.8 from the mk2/mk3s with less than 100hp and not the 1.8(Turbo) 20v DOHC that you have. So I can see what he’d want a 2.0
I’m starting to work on my parents Vw Golf mk2 1.6L carburettor, a lot of things to do on it but I’m so excited as it’s been in the family for 17 years 🤙🏼
My first project is my daily 1991 Toyota Pickup Xtracab! I just rebuilt the 22R-E over the summer. Right now its sitting on 4 inch lowering blocks in the rear and a 2 inch drop spindle with a balljoint flip up front. I have 15x10 Cragar V5s in the rear and 15x8 V5s up front. Hopefully soon I'll be getting some 18s or 19s and really slam it!
My first project car was an 84 FWD Corolla for $200, dubbed “the Corolls Royce” and compared to my 82 diesel Land Cruiser which was my first car, it was SO fast. Learned a lot from that car from maintaining and modding it’s appearance. Went through some rattle can paint jobs, a pointless hood scoop, fender mirrors, heater core bolted to the bumper with hoses going nowhere into the grill, lowering springs, SO many different exhaust combinations and fart cans, Japanese writing on the side, fat wheels, and all on a budget. Other than putting in new suspension which made it a pizza delivering beast, barely spent anything on the car and completely transformed it. Sadly it rusted out and the guy I basically gave it to killed it. Still miss it, but it was time to move on and I’ll always have the memories my friends and I made with it.
The engine sounds nice for a 2.0 8v and the guy looked like he put a lot of work into it and yeah it is sketchy but he built the engine himself and that says a lot. I hope when he gets a newer car he takes what he learned in the 2.0 and brings it to a new car. Good review. My first project car was a 1995 2.8VR6 Jetta GLX. A fun car I modified highly but kept it N/A. I miss the Wookie. Now I am chilling in a 2005 Cadillac DeVille and taking a break b/c I want a Tesla and am curious as to how the car scene will learn to modify The Future of cars aka The Dinosaur Combustible Engine that is hopefully soon to die.
Your such a amazing person I have been watching this channel for so many years and I never get sick of it your one of my most favorite UA-camrs great job David road to 1mil❤️❤️🏎
First project car: a 1997 SAAB 900S. 2.3l non turbo with an automatic, been in a couple accidents.... ended up pouring way too much money into it, only to have the car rust away. It's now the parts car for my second project car, a 1997 SAAB 900SE 2.0T 5spd manuel. This one isn't rusty, but boy is it a turdbucket. Goes real fast and does nice one wheel peels when it's not broken.
My first ever project car is still in the works even after 6 years of ownership. Its a 1988 bmw e30 and after almost 6 years of ownership 3 years of saving up and doing work its almost ready to drive again
Wouldn't be bad at all with different cams and a exhaust. Don't know much about the Mk4 Golf 2.0s but know a more on the Mk3 ABA 2.Slow's. Lighter wheels too maybe? and some good grippy tires (or tyres as some others write). and if enough money saved why not Slap a turbo on it or swap it for a 1.8T/VR6? Nice looking thou :3
My first project car was an 1989 2 door coupe Jetta never really got it where I wanted and was a pain in the but. Now have a 2.0 Golf and planing to autocross but I’m learning so much more with this car.
My first "project car" was a 92 Honda Accord coupe my dad bought for $500. We ended up taking the engine out of that car & putting it in our 93 Honda Accord wagon when the original engine threw a belt and smashed the heads (we still have that damaged engine). The wagon, with the 92 engine, now sits due to having a transmission issue (it doesn't want to shift into 3rd gear). Our family plan for the wagon is to put a K or J series engine in it, or better yet, a S2000 engine & transmission & make it a RWD sleeper. My other car I've tinkered around with is my 97 Honda Prelude, but that has been more visual upgrades so people actually see me while driving.
ilovemanunited my friend wasn’t going for power, he was going for usability. He was pulling a camper and a boat behind the camper in a geo. He also cut holes in the floor boards so he could take her out on the lake to go ice fishing.
I'm on my first project car 97 del sol si, I'm 15. I rebuilt the engine for a turbo and I have about 80 miles on the rebuild and am about 30 bucks away from a turbo kit! It has aftermarket wheels, lowering springs, skunk 2 control arms front and rear, eBay short throw shifter and a muffler delete. Needs an alignment tho but turbo first 😂
my first project car was a 1992 nissan 240sx coupe. i bought it for 800 dollars in 2008. i remember back then i was on craigslist and the poster only had one pic of the car in the front. i was slightly disappointed at the time it was a coupe and not a hatch. back in those days the hatches were the only one people wanted and it being the coupe was why the car was so cheap. but after a few years of owning it i started to really appreciate the coupe and even have grown to like the coupe more than the hatch. it had the ka24e ( single cam ) in it and i ended up building it with upgraded internals and threw on a cx racing turbo kit and it was a blast. over time i put a stage 4 unsprung clutch, j30 VLSD and axles, j30 n62 MAF, and full fiberglass front end. the thing was light and torquey which i enjoyed alot. sadly i made the decision to sell it based on circumstances that my priority car ( mkiv supra ) had blown its number one cyl rings and i used the money from the car to buy a full bottom end kit for it. and the guy who bought it claimed he blew a hole through the block. i told him he needed to have it re tuned before driving it because of the elevation difference ( my elevation 4400 ft. and his being sea level or right new sea level ) so the car must have ran lean since there was additional oxygen and knocked.
So I bought my first car 2 weeks ago. A volks Jetta 2L turbo Wolfsburg edition 2008. It's a blast to drive, the exshaust broke after the down pipe and it makes a bunch of cool turbo noises 😍 I don't think I will fix it haha.
Trust me youll learn a few things once your under your cars hood just gotta say screw it and tackle it, also the internet helps when your stuck on something forums,UA-cam,etc
Having a racing wheel on road car is just stupid I thought it was cool till one of my buddies crashed his b5 into a crossover at 80mph killing the passengers in his car(broken neck on impact) cuz of no airbags had seatbelt on and the driver has been in a medicated coma for over a month and a half not sure if he’s gonna make it. Rip #b5chide. Just don’t be stupid
my first ever project car was a 2001 vw golf 1.8t i will never sell its got a 6 point cage recaro seats stage 3 tune stage 3 drag clutch cam rods berings valve springs it makes 300hp i love it also nice vid
So, not exactly a conventional project car since it's my daily, but it's my 96' Volvo 850. Planning BC coil overs (actually cheaper than oem), adjustable sway bars, good 17x7.5 wheels (newer oem wheels since you cant find 5x108 anywhere, already have them) and tires (Probably some Falken Azenis RT615K's), and once I do all that (long term), I'm going to strip the interior behind the front seats. Waiting till then since a stripped interior bumps you to a really tough class for AutoX and Time Trialing. Eventually going to swap in a 2.3 Turbo 5 cylinder. Till then, the 2.4 N/a 5 will do just fine. Watching stock 23 year old luxury suspension autocross is hilarious though, the body-roll is immense. Have a few video's on my channel.
A 2002 Volkswagen GTI was my first project car. Something new would literally break on it every freaking time I drove it but I managed to fix everything wrong with it and got it to run so damn smooth. Then I sold it and bought a 16' mustang GT Premium with the performance pack.
Well, only 31 subs away so I'll go ahead and say congrats on 900k David! Thanks for all your hard work and awesome content and just being real about stuff!
First project car was a 1994 Honda Civic LX 4dr 1.5L NON-Vtec. Graduated to a B20/Vtec Integra that me and my friends put a used turbo kit on. Have been addicted to boost since!
1993 Mazda protege, corksport evo ground effects, ground control coil overs w/ tokico blue struts, 17’s w 205-40. And a set of Tenzo-R reclinables w/ sparco harnesses! Year was 2000!!!
Currently on my first project car. 1995 Honda Civic DelSol with a H22a4 swap. I have videos on my progress with it if anyone wants to see what it’s about. I love this video, good representation of a lot of young people building there cars with what they have
It may be sketchy af, but for a 16yr old messing with his first car, he is off to a good trial and error start. Just glad to see younger folk are still enthused over cars and take the time to tinker. You wouldn't want to drive my WRX, its got some good parts, but a ton of bad parts.
first project car was an 06 honda odyssey that i was building into a rally car. the j35 threw a rod and blew a chunk outta the bottom of the block a week ago. now i'm in the process of getting an 01 jetta 2.0 delivered and registered
I am on my first project car, it’s a 2011 Mini Cooper Clubman, I’m into rally racing and autocross. Currently I have a muffler Delete, custom “diffuser” I made and installed myself, 16” RPF1’s with some ultra high performance Bridgestone potenza RE-71R’s And 6” rally lights on custom mounting brackets I made myself . Next mods are going to be a front splitter and custom spoiler. And I’m going to tune and install headers. an intake, and sprint booster to increase throttle response and acceleration, and try to find out how much power I can squeeze off of the engine with a tune, since no ones done it for my engine. I have a 1.6L DOHC Naturally aspirated engine. Also cat delete cause more crackle pops and a tad more power
Bet you won’t pin this hah lol anyways good video keep doing what you doing
Ohhhh bet.
Now edit the comment and make it something stupid XD

Lol true he did not know but I does have a cam. 150 for it new not bad.
Yeah, it has cams. Because the cams are connected to the camshaft. Of which it has one. So yeah, he's right. Modified cams.

Tyler Cox having a harness bar just makes it even worse lol. More shit to hit your head on T-Man
An improperly installed seat belt is far more dangerous than just about anything else "tuners" do. I've seen the results, it's not pretty. Do it right or not at all.
s13 gouf in one of the other comments he says he's gonna do it right. The stock seatbelt didn't work so he just threw those in just for the review
A Nerd's Adventures deathtrap just for the review, wonderful.
In some earlier comments about this the kid replied said the seatbelt didn’t work so he slapped them on for the meanwhile
But driving it you definitely feel like they’re gonna break and you’re gonna smash a barrier
literally highlight of my day watching your videos man
Congrats on 900K!!! You work so hard and have been grinding it out for years. 1M soon!
My 01 GTI 1.8T was constantly breaking down but I kinda miss it sometimes.... They were definitely hot in the 00's
My first project car was an E21 BMW 320i. For $1000 everyone thought I was a hot shot rich guy because BMW. 😄
Haha, people don't know any better. And then you will see them buying a brand new "econbox" for more than 10 K 😂
A cheap BMW is probably very expensive in the long run. :)
Jeff K There’s no such thing as a cheap BMW! 😄
Just did the damn same. 1600 for a essentially rust free, perfect driving vehicle with complete original interior and exterior
It’s a 2.0 8 valve SOHC. So it’s cam not cams.
2.slow
( coming from a 1.8 20V owner, no hate )
Quco I have a 1.8 and I fantasize about owning a 2.slow, so. They are fantastic.
Germany here. Its a meh car with a shitty engine. Most Honda d-series are quicker then these 2.0
NETGLOW id rather keep my 20VT
Never heard other stories than "slow. And not that fuel efficient" from 2.0"s
Also im addicted to the torque my mapped GTI makes
Quco I think NETGLOW is from a country that got the naturally aspirated 1.8l single cam engine which was just an updated 1.8 from the mk2/mk3s with less than 100hp and not the 1.8(Turbo) 20v DOHC that you have. So I can see what he’d want a 2.0
I’m starting to work on my parents Vw Golf mk2 1.6L carburettor, a lot of things to do on it but I’m so excited as it’s been in the family for 17 years 🤙🏼
I love coyote the gamer I've been watching him for awhile now
haha whats up dude
Coyote The Gamer Love you man I've been waiting for him to post this since you made your video about it!
“Stock internals with aftermarket cams” whaaaaaaaa
Julian Mcclellan he meant stock bottom end. Pistons, rods, and crank.
And btw, those VW engines are pretty sturdy! they really can handle boost on the stock bottom end!
2.0s can run a 260 cam on stock springs
Matthew Mohri lol thanks man
Your such a amazing person I have been watching this channel for so many years and I never get sick of it your one of my most favorite UA-camrs great job David road to 1mil❤️❤️🏎
crackle crackle crackle
First project car: a 1997 SAAB 900S. 2.3l non turbo with an automatic, been in a couple accidents.... ended up pouring way too much money into it, only to have the car rust away.
It's now the parts car for my second project car, a 1997 SAAB 900SE 2.0T 5spd manuel. This one isn't rusty, but boy is it a turdbucket. Goes real fast and does nice one wheel peels when it's not broken.
This just how I did mines I have a 2.5l 5 cylinder rabbit and I gutted it. But it’s my first car so I don’t care but I respect this!
Alessio Coto hells yeahs I love my Jetta 2.5
My first ever project car is still in the works even after 6 years of ownership. Its a 1988 bmw e30 and after almost 6 years of ownership 3 years of saving up and doing work its almost ready to drive again
Wouldn't be bad at all with different cams and a exhaust. Don't know much about the Mk4 Golf 2.0s but know a more on the Mk3 ABA 2.Slow's. Lighter wheels too maybe? and some good grippy tires (or tyres as some others write). and if enough money saved why not Slap a turbo on it or swap it for a 1.8T/VR6? Nice looking thou :3
thanks
Odd but yet satisfying
I'm currently working on a 90 crx maybe I'll be on the list for you to review it one day once I'm done
Shake the shifter once, you're fine. Shake it twice, you're playing with yourself. 😏
uh, what?
The flex in the steering wheel/hub/shaft is scary.
I don't know why but I smelled burnt oil while watching this. lol
Clell Biggs I actually does not burn oil
I didn't think you did. The car runs really well. I've just been in a lot of cars like this and burnt oil is something you expect to smell.
My first project car was an 1989 2 door coupe Jetta never really got it where I wanted and was a pain in the but. Now have a 2.0 Golf and planing to autocross but I’m learning so much more with this car.
Im sorry but this kid needs some priorities if you can build an engine fix the damn shifter
Lol had not have time and now I am broke
when you know your own car, your shifter is last in the list if it works lol
If you think that’s sketchy, you should see my friends geo. 😂
damn
Carson Davis that 2JZ swap Impreza Mr.Regular did. 700hp and stripped interior.
ilovemanunited my friend wasn’t going for power, he was going for usability.
Needs an alignment tho but turbo first 😂
I still own my vw r32 mk5 with 200k and still daily driven! #vwfamily
Man I just love the older golfs look , those and old bmw’s
I'm jealous here I am at 23 and can't even afford a bus ticket while a 16 year old has his first car already
Work hard man i work 3 jobs and still in high school
TheBigboi16 get a job
Spencer Leland I like how you assume things man. I work 2 jobs.
Coyote The Gamer I work 2 man. And in college. Things take money faster than I can make
TheBigboi16 your living beyond your means kid
my first project car was a 1992 nissan 240sx coupe. i bought it for 800 dollars in 2008. i remember back then i was on craigslist and the poster only had one pic of the car in the front. i was slightly disappointed at the time it was a coupe and not a hatch. back in those days the hatches were the only one people wanted and it being the coupe was why the car was so cheap. but after a few years of owning it i started to really appreciate the coupe and even have grown to like the coupe more than the hatch.
it had the ka24e ( single cam ) in it and i ended up building it with upgraded internals and threw on a cx racing turbo kit and it was a blast. over time i put a stage 4 unsprung clutch, j30 VLSD and axles, j30 n62 MAF, and full fiberglass front end. the thing was light and torquey which i enjoyed alot. sadly i made the decision to sell it based on circumstances that my priority car ( mkiv supra ) had blown its number one cyl rings and i used the money from the car to buy a full bottom end kit for it. and the guy who bought it claimed he blew a hole through the block. i told him he needed to have it re tuned before driving it because of the elevation difference ( my elevation 4400 ft. and his being sea level or right new sea level ) so the car must have ran lean since there was additional oxygen and knocked.
Would of been dope if it was a 1.8t Jetta
First project car was a 1992 Mazda mx6 gt. I loved that car. Now I have a civic hatch that I’m starting to completely fall for
Beeeeep Beeeeep lol that's how you know it's a race car
hi and lolz bro
MagnumDubstep what's up
Congratulations on 900k!!!
The handbrake light is used for low brake fluid warning in most cars.
Sounds like he needs poly bushes and shift kit
Adam Blaknovski it seems like he didnt even put any bushings in it you could easily get a kit for cheap
So I bought my first car 2 weeks ago. A volks Jetta 2L turbo Wolfsburg edition 2008. It's a blast to drive, the exshaust broke after the down pipe and it makes a bunch of cool turbo noises 😍 I don't think I will fix it haha.
I really want to work on cars but i dont have the experience, I am 18, where can I learn this
my channel i do everything there
Mighty Car Mods have a ton of really good videos on learning how to modify your car. I'd start there.
Just do it. And Google is your friend.
Tbh man youll never be ready to start. You learn as you go. Just try!
Trust me youll learn a few things once your under your cars hood just gotta say screw it and tackle it, also the internet helps when your stuck on something forums,UA-cam,etc
That like the MK2 & 3 trade mark ,bad shifter bushing trying to find first and reverse 😂
Facts 💯💯💯 and then you gotta love the clicking in reverse until it strips out the reverse gear, MK3 & 3 trademark 😂😂😂.
Just don’t be stupid
my first ever project car was a 2001 vw golf 1.8t i will never sell its got a 6 point cage recaro seats stage 3 tune stage 3 drag clutch cam rods berings valve springs it makes 300hp i love it
also nice vid
900k!!!!! Congtats!!!!!
Good to see you still doing vids of older cars....
Still on my first car. 2012 2.0 L Jetta Manual. Had an '02 Corolla before this but I got that for free.
When I was 16 I dreamt of owning my own car, great to see some who can live that dream.
I'm still on my first project car. It's a 00 Honda Civic. Just a little 1.4 but it's really clean and I love it.
That shifter reminds me of the one in the 2000 Kia Rio5 I test drove...in 2000.
I’ve been waiting for this one since the autocross!!
First project car was a 1994 Honda Civic LX 4dr 1.5L NON-Vtec. Graduated to a B20/Vtec Integra that me and my friends put a used turbo kit on. Have been addicted to boost since!
Man I truly enjoy your channel I hope mine grows into something close as good.
Bought my first project car in 2008 still working on it today... 2001 Monte Carlo SS Turbo
1993 Mazda protege, corksport evo ground effects, ground control coil overs w/ tokico blue struts, 17’s w 205-40. And a set of Tenzo-R reclinables w/ sparco harnesses! Year was 2000!!!
First project car, second car overall. '94 Civic CX. It rattles, it buzzes, and it's slow as hell, but it's crazy fun to drive
7:57 That lady in the minivan is hardcore judging
I get looks all the time, people flick me off and record all the time.
I am on my first project car a 1999 Miata and it’s my baby. And I’m installing Raceland Coilovers next week
Currently on my first project car. 1995 Honda Civic DelSol with a H22a4 swap. I have videos on my progress with it if anyone wants to see what it’s about. I love this video, good representation of a lot of young people building there cars with what they have
More respect for this kids build than 90% of the cars I see on UA-cam
It may be sketchy af, but for a 16yr old messing with his first car, he is off to a good trial and error start. Just glad to see younger folk are still enthused over cars and take the time to tinker. You wouldn't want to drive my WRX, its got some good parts, but a ton of bad parts.
Ungesehen Winter thanks man
first project car was an 06 honda odyssey that i was building into a rally car. the j35 threw a rod and blew a chunk outta the bottom of the block a week ago. now i'm in the process of getting an 01 jetta 2.0 delivered and registered
Great car to review I love these little quirky cars keep these coming David.
