As someone who gets a lot of anxiety and get easily overwhelmed by the post office, thank you so much for this video. I need to send three pieces of certified mail today and this video was so helpful!
That's so great to hear! We started off in the same boat as many of you until we had to ship a lot and learn the ins and outs of USPS. So we're glad we could help make mailing easier and less stressful for others too :)
thank you for helping me not annoy the post office worker with my questions anymore lol
Glad to help make the process easier and stress free!
I've seen these before but no one gives a hands-on explanation on how to use them. Very informative and entertaining, thank you!

This is an excellent video. It explained the return receipt and certified mail very well. It can be used with first class mail or priority mail. You are doing better job explaining it than the employees at USPS. I appreciate it much. Thank you. All the best in 2023 and beyond. God bless you.

Hi, this is very helpful I have questions I just issue a money order what if you forgot to insert information From can the recipient write it instead on my behalf just a thought. Thank you,
I love the thumbnail!
Thanks!
More helpful than the waste of space, grumpy, clerks at the postal office smh... I wish I didnt have to go up there ever.
Can you use 1 certified number for 9 packages with different sending locations?
I have never had to use certified mail when I lived in other countries and that's because their postal service is so much more reliable than the USPS who routinely lose letters and packages not to mention misdelivering them to the wrong address; I get EVERY year on average 6 items in my mailbox that was misdelivered to my address. That's why the only time I use USPS is when sending documents/forms to the local, state or federal bureaucracies because they won't accept email w/attachments.
I'm sorry USPS hasn't been up to par with their service. It's really a mixed bag depending on where you live.
Q significa ese cartón verde
Alguien que me explique
Thank you for the information. The form 3811 that you shown on your video has a series of numbers on part 2 (Article number). What number I am supposed to write there? and if I only want to ship a letter with a domestic return receipt what it is the service type that I should add?
Thanks for your help.
Article 2 will be the tracking number from the certified label. If this is done at a PO counter, the clerk will apply the certified barcode and then put a sticker with the same tracking number on Article 2. This will allow you to track the letter once it's in the system. For your 2nd question, give your letter to the PO clerk and tell them you would like to mail it "certified with return receipt".
@@the38steps Thank you.
Great video! If unused do these receipts expire? How long can I use them?
I've had these for a couple of years and still used one recently. As long as the form hasn't been updated, you can keep a few on hand and use them whenever you want.
I work for USPS
Thank you for the helpful information. Can I arrange the self-addressed return envelope with certified mail? how?
Sorry for getting back to you late on this. But you can do so the same way as in the video, except do the reverse. Put your address in the certified mail form along with your address in the center of the envelope. And then put the recipient's address in the top left corner of the envelope. Then when they bring it to the post office to send to you, they'll have to pay for the certified mail service.
@@InnominateKraken Thank you!
👏👏👏
By the way I’ve already subscribed to your channel🤗
Hi! Do i need to apply additional postage stamps on the letter? Or will usps add the stamps for me?
When using this, I'd take your letter to the post office and have them ring up how much the postage will be because you're paying for these extra services.
Great video! Do I have to go to an actual post office to send it?
For this you'd have to go to the post office because the cashier has to stamp it and ring up your postage for the extra service.
Por q mandan eso
So do I place the return receipt on the front for big envelopes?
Thank you!
Yes, you can place it on the front of a big envelope!
@@InnominateKraken thank you!
How can I sent a certified mail without signature required on it so they just put it on the my receiver mailing address
All you need to do then is fill out the Certified Mail Receipt and don't check off any of the extra services. Don't add the Return Address Receipt either.
Do you need a stamp with the certified mail barcode?
Since you have to go to the post office to pay for the service anyways, I find it easier to just pay for the postage at the counter as well. So I don't put stamps on mine.
where do you buy the forms? go to a USPS?
They're free at the USPS post office
Call me an idiot but do you need to do both certified mail receipt AND a return receipt to deliver a package?? Arent they the same thing?
You don't necessarily need both. If you want proof that you sent something and have some kind of tracking (for First Class Mail) then you'd go with Certified Mail. You wouldn't need a Return Receipt. If you want to know if the package got there and who signed for it ( have proof of delivery), then you'd use a Return Receipt. I'm not entirely sure if you can use a Return Receipt on its own. I always saw it with Certified Mail.
This is probably a really stupid question but do you have to ask for these forms at the post office? Or will they be somewhere where you can just grab them? First time doing this and I’m a little anxious, haha
Totally not a stupid question! They have the forms out so you can grab one and take it home to fill out. They're usually where the boxes are or near the counters where you can write/prepare your boxes.
@@InnominateKraken Thank you so much! Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video and answer our questions.
@@Briarxoxo of course! Just happy we could help make mailing/shipping stress-free :)
@Briarxoxo Thank you for asking that question! I'm also very anxious and absolutely hate when people at establishments treat me like I'm stupid or wasting their time for not already knowing how a process works, as if I'm supposed to know the ins-and-outs of their job because THEY do it every day.
Can you use the kiosk to send certified mail?
I haven't used a kiosk myself, but from what I've heard from other people it seems like you can!
Hi so I received a certified mail and I wanted to see how im supposed to return the green slip ?
By green slip, do you mean the return receipt? Upon receiving it, the postal worker should've ripped it off so that they can mail back it to the person who sent it.
@@InnominateKraken yes I do believe it’s the green slip , it was attached to the envelope
What to do if you haven't received your return receipts?
You might be eligible for a refund or replacement record. If you scroll down in this return receipt FAQ there's a part that goes into more detail about that: bit.ly/3Kvf1FS
Hi! Can this be used for boxes?
Hey! I believe you can.
How about a signature to a P.O Box?
Yes, when Certified Mail arrives at the delivery post office, the letter carrier will place a delivery notification inside the P.O. Box that instructs the person to present the delivery slip to the window clerk.
Do you have to pay anything for a certified mail slip
The slip itself is free at the post office, but you'll have to pay for the service.
Do I need to pay when I return to the sender
According to USPS (bit.ly/45sezm2): After delivery, an addressee may mark a piece of mail “Refused” and return it within a reasonable time if the mail or any attachment is not opened, except for mail listed in (1) and (2). Mail that may not be refused and returned unopened under this provision may be returned to the sender only if enclosed in a new envelope or wrapper with a correct address and new postage. The following may not be returned postage free: (1) Pieces sent as Registered Mail‘, Insured Mail, Certified Mail‘, COD, Return Receipt for Merchandise Mail, or other signature mail may not be refused and returned postage free after delivery. (2) Mail sent to an addressee in response to the addressee’s sales promotion, solicitation, announcement, or other advertisement, and that is not refused when offered to the addressee, may not be refused and returned postage free after delivery.
Wouldn't it be smarter to put your envelope inside a First Class parcel and then add Signature Confirmation?
SC is indeed cheaper than Certified (by 30 cents); however, you'd also have to factor in the cost of a parcel. The cheapest FC parcel nowadays goes for $4.50. So you're a lot better off using Certified on an envelope. Now... if all you wanted to do was track your item, not get a signature for it, you could go the parcel route, as USPS Tracking is free with FC Parcel service.
Where do i purchase certified mail reciept?
You can get them free at the Post Office or order them for free on their website: tinyurl.com/67bvacxu
How much is it
New prices just went into effect, so for Certified Mail with a Return Receipt it’s $8.53. For Certified Mail without the Return Receipt it’s $4.35. The additional service of Return Receipt Electronic Signature is $2.20. If you do Certified Mail with Electronic Delivery Confirmation, the price goes down to $5.88. This would be on top of how much the postage would be for your letter.
I'm the recipient.... don't I have to sign????
Are you mailing it to yourself? Because then yes when it's delivered to you, they'll ask you to sign it to prove you've received it.
@@InnominateKraken no. Obnoxious corporate billionaire threatening me
And thank you for your answer
When you were younger 😂😂 you look like 12 at this moment 😂😂
They get lost easy and you won't get your money back.
These aren't proofs. Forms PS 3817 or 3877 are proof. Every single self proclaimed "How to instructor" doesnt even know "Hot To" themselves.
For each how-to we do in depth research of all of the resources and information USPS offers on their website. If we have made any mistakes, we apologize for that. However from the information we collected and considering USPS have listed Certified Mail and Return Receipts as “verification that an article was delivered,” “evidence of delivery,” and “proof of delivery,” we have come to the assumption that those are the services provided and have mentioned them as such in our video. To be completely transparent and provide our audience with the most accurate information, here are direct quotes from USPS' website about all of the forms.
USPS’ info page on Certificate of Mailing (Forms 3817 and 3877) they say it, “provides evidence that you sent an item when you say you did. This official record only shows the date your mail was accepted. It does not provide record of delivery, proof of mailing, or insure items against loss.”
Whereas according to their product page for Form 3800 (Certified Mail receipt) they say it, “provides the sender with a mailing receipt and, upon request electronic verification that an article was delivered or that a delivery attempt was made.”
According to their product page for Form 3811 (Return Receipt) they say it, “provides mailers with evidence of delivery (to whom the mail was delivered and date of delivery), along with information about the recipient’s delivery address.”
On their Certified Mail info page they say its features include, “provides the sender with a mailing receipt as confirmation an item was sent.” They go on to say that if requested, “provides electronic verification that an item was delivered or that a delivery attempt was made.”
On their Return Receipt info page they says its features include “proof of delivery” which includes the following information, “date of delivery, signature of recipient, information about the recipient’s actual delivery address, if different.”
