Got one two weeks ago at a gun show for $599. Shot it last week at the range. This became my favorite pistol over my Glocks and a Walther PDP and various CZ P10 pistols I have owned. Can’t believe what I got for my $599.😊
Do you still feel the same way about the rival sfx? I wanted this to be my first canik but I shot a mete SFX (only canik I ever shot so far) and it was amazing. I assume the rival sfx is better
I picked up a Rival Dark Side and threw a Trijicon SRO optic on it. I’ve got about 5000 rounds through it now. I absolutely love it. I find myself taking it to the range more than my Legion, CZ Shadow, Springfield Prodigy, etc.
Excellent review. I bought this because I am interested in competing somewhere. Not worried about winning, just want to have the fun of competition and get in shape at the same time. Thanks for your non bias opinion.
Got one yesterday, the Dark Side model, and it went for MSRP $679. No one else in town had one and if they did, it would go for the same MSRP. Seems that magazines are available on several online sites so perhaps the problems you spoke to have been resolved. Really looking forward to putting 1000s of rounds through this. Thank for your review.
Great review of this firearm. It’s great to see a company focusing on the civilian market to deliver maximum value versus selling us the leftovers meant for the military and LE.
Have their TP9SF, TP9SFX and just picked up the Rival. They get knocked some because they are viewed as cheap, but Canik has produced some extremely solid pistols that feel and shoot better than some more “premium” brands. Wouldn’t sleep on this company.
Thanks for another great review. I just bought a Dark Side version and agree with you and other reviewers - 3 mags should be the standard number for competition pistols. I look forward to shooting her in competition.
I got my hands on the bronze and black colored Canik SFX Rival and it shoots as good as it looks. Defiantly a worthwhile purchase to replace my old 9mm.
I have an SFX Rival, I love this thing. I have been shooting steal challenge for about 6 months with a 22 Victory. I can't wait to get this on the range as well. I did get a weighted backstrap for it as well as a comp. Great gun for the price.
I just handled the 320 next to the Dark Side today, and the fit/finish/quality were on par, except for the trigger, which absolutely blew the 320 away, hard to believe, but the Canik is superior, for half the price, I WILL be getting one!
Just subscribed. Have TP9 Elite Combat FDE, Zev v2 comp, Surefire x300 1000 lumens, Holosun 507C x2. Talon $20 peel on grip to remedy lack of grip thumb stippling. Changed magwell to Taylor for that extra 1/4 inch for the pinky. Gun fits perfect now in my large hand, 1-2 inch groups at 15-20 yards. Not competitive shooter but for home defense, this 60 yr old sleeps much better now. Posting this for others seeking ideas. Love all your videos, you are the best!
Hi had the same red dot put on my SFX Rival. The height of the window on the Holosun (507c) completely obliterates using the front iron site to quickly pick up the red dot - just started shooting in November. Do I need to change my red dot model/manufacturer? Was wrong plate used by shop when they mounted the Holosun
So i got my permit october 2, so far ive bought and used a canik mc9 an sft, a shield 45 and a hellcat. I love my caniks, like lightyears more than the others so tonight i bought a rival. Cant wait to get it, scooped one on gunbroker for 530 before ship and tax, everything said n done its 615 shipped. Its used but doesnt look like its been fired.
I spent the past year working in a gunstore in Western Washington. Half the staff owned a TP9series. One guy owned 4. The guns sold themselves. I never got over my 1911 fixation but my wife had no problem picking up a Canik.
Excellent assessment! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I am a Canik-fanatik, and after watching your personal review about the Canik Rival, I will buy me the Darkside model. Very much appreciated, David! Last, it would be an interesting comparison between the Walther PDP Pro SD with the Canik Rival.
Kept putting this in my shopping cart and then talking myself out of it. Really didn't need another 9mm pistol, already have 17 from a Hi Point to CZ to Glock to a surplus Luger....But I broke down and ordered it today.
So the ideal carry optics model would be a 4” mini Rival with direct to slide optics cut? A solution to mag availability would be to buy 2 Caniks bc they’re cheap. I liked the notice on Caniks site re: lookalike domain names. That suggests there are some other issues. As a gesture of goodwill & solid marketing they should offer owners a couple free mags in the future. Opens channels they can speak directly to customers.
My son has the CANiK METE SFT and absolutely loves it. He kept twisting my arm to get one and so I did and I absolutely love it more than my Glock 17 which has been my go to for 15 years now. Well the wife bought the CANiK TP9SF and we have yet to take it to the range.
It’s a coin toss, you just have to put them both on the counter in front of you and paw around both of them for a while. My index finger is very low on the trigger with the Canik, actually rubs the trigger guard, PDP for me.
I’m going to pick mine up from my FFL today! I’m so excited to pick it up, got it for $620 absolutely stoaked that I found one at this price. Most go for $650 and higher
I've never shot a Canik but I have handled a few at gun shops and I'm always impressed by how good the trigger feels. It really is right up there with the Walther PPQ/PDP trigger. For a striker fired gun it's really exceptional.
I'd like to see this compared to big name polymer 9mm pistols that are the same price, But definitely id like to see this compared with the glock 17 and 19 for a start, Also the PSA dagger, Basically guns that are priced at what they are worth for what you get, These guns are what you buy if you care about getting the most value possible for your hard earned money, To many people don't seem to even think about this,
Thanks for yet another interesting and informative review David. I’d like to see the Canik compared to the Walther PPQ Q5, which was also designed for competition…in addition to all the other review points haw does accuracy compare?? If I we’re still shooting IDPA, I would definitely have to have one of these!
One word on the holster. Depending on what holster you have, I found that with the heavier slide profile I had to basically back out the retention screw all the way to be able to get the gun in my BSG standard SFX holster. Not a problem though I ordered a custom built for my RIVAL. Cant wait to start competing with it. My standard SFX has been well used, and is just as reliable today as the day I got it new
I just subscribed. I’ve never done a competition and so far you have answered soooo many questions I was needing answers for because I was considering a Canik for my first competition pistol. Awesome channel
It’s my favorite gun out of all my toys. I paid almost $900 for it because it’s Hawaii and the magazine had to be plugged so only ten rounds can fit in it and that cost me $80 extra for plugging the magazine
Just flat out amazing for the money! This gun keeps up with the most expensive of them! I just got one today and wow I'm very impressed. Love your videos brutha!
I purchased the canik white out series number 5042 and still waiting to shoot 250 or 500 rounds steel and brass through it. Its a light gray unless its on a dark background. I feel happy on my purchase.
This video and your video on the 320 legion made it a pretty damn hard choice... but I went with the canik. I figure the 400$ wiggle room can secure me a decent optic and maybe even some training ammo. Would love to see a comparison vid between the two as others have asked for. Thanks!
I shot a stock 320 x5 legion for a while, its a great gun, but not before you spend another 1000 dollars to get everything squared away (accuracy sucks for my Legion, Barsto barrel is a must IMO). I bought a Rival when it first came out, put a G17.3 guide rod with a 14lb spring in (not a perfect fit but functional), shot a couple of drills and went back to the store right away bought another Rival, now my 320 is being cleaned and going on gunbroker.
Awesome review. Thank you. Canik pistols are great. Lots of people asking about this vs pdp. I’ve shot both. Both are awesome but I’d go rival. The pdp is way too snappy for a 9mm.
Thanks for the review. Good to see that Turkish products starts to get recognition. We produce western standard products for an Asian price. Thats one of our succes
Just looked at one now it's about $750 still a nice gun I have the sf sft mete and the elite SC all are great for what I need them for let a friend of mine try the elite SC loves the trigger he really enjoyed shooting it
I have the Rival Dark Side, the TP9 SFX Signature Series Whiteout and the TP9 Elite Combat Executive...and the Executive blows the Rival trigger away. Like night and day. Was very surprised.
That's kinda weird . I had the Executive also and my Rival trigger is much better than the Executive was. Guess you just get some differences in production guns.
Just saw this video David. No intelligent commentary on the firearm. Just wanted to say I love your content and learn a ton, which as a new firearm owner, is awesome
Great vids, I would love to see you do a side by side against a cz shadow 2 as they are both competion ready out of the box. I can't see the CZ being worth two of these caniks.
Finally purchased this same gun and it has to be probably the best bang for the buck gun ever. My wife loves it so much that she has now claimed it. lol
Great video, love your channel. Especially the "shoot like a boss" series. Definately want this pistol. Bottle opener on the front of the slide is a nice touch. Do you like it better than your PDP?
Found one for $613 out the door a week ago. Shot it the next day. Can’t believe what I got for my money. Great review David.
was it online ?
@@danten7774 no in store.
$613 out the door wow. Steal
Steal!! Jus got one for retail. Wish it came in one of them PlayStation lookin boxes
I got mine for $630 out the door. I could of got it a little cheaper but i didn’t have any experience with the vendor.
Got one two weeks ago at a gun show for $599. Shot it last week at the range. This became my favorite pistol over my Glocks and a Walther PDP and various CZ P10 pistols I have owned. Can’t believe what I got for my $599.😊

Picked up a used darkside for $429. Just shot it for the first time yesterday. Couldn't believe how great it shoots. Love this thing!
Excellent review. I bought this because I am interested in competing somewhere. Not worried about winning, just want to have the fun of competition and get in shape at the same time. Thanks for your non bias opinion.
Canik guys yes, PDP PRO SD, X5 legion, CZ p10f competition comparisons.
Great review of this firearm. It’s great to see a company focusing on the civilian market to deliver maximum value versus selling us the leftovers meant for the military and LE.
Canik is doing great stuff lately, that's for sure. This vs PDP Pro SD, Q5 match and P10F competition would be cool.
I second the Q5 Match
Caniks been doing good stuff for a good while, there cz 75 clones are fantastic
Can confirm they resolved optics mounting for the larger dots. Running the Romeo 3 max on my rival. Sits flush with the back of the slide.
i have a romeo zero on my mete sfx and it seems tiny on my pistol. is the mete capable of a larger optic?
I Have a Canik TP9 elite. It has one of the best triggers I have used. Very accurate and easy to shoot.
Have their TP9SF, TP9SFX and just picked up the Rival. They get knocked some because they are viewed as cheap, but Canik has produced some extremely solid pistols that feel and shoot better than some more “premium” brands. Wouldn’t sleep on this company.
And they are from a company in Turkey
Just purchased a Canik SFX Rival, awesome gun! Paid a little more then I wanted to ($742.12) but couldn't find it anywhere else. I'm a happy camper!
I just bought the whiteout edition for the same price today. It was the cheapest I could find it for. Some places wanted 1000!
I got my Rival last week and man do I love it!
Thanks for another great review.
I just bought a Dark Side version and agree with you and other reviewers - 3 mags should be the standard number for competition pistols.
I look forward to shooting her in competition.
Literally no reason to watch anyone else’s pistol reviews your channel is so underrated in this area.
Just happily dropped 925 out the door for a full kit with the dot sight. Very happy
Ordered mine a week ago. The price is ridiculous here in germany (1149 €) compared to your 679 $. Still hyped to shoot it!
Rival v CZ Shadow
Rival v G34
Rival v P320 Legion
I didn’t knew about this gun until my friend told me about it and I think this is going to be the one for me to start competing. Nice video 👍
Would love to see you compare this to the Walther PDP.
Both awesome. Except pdp is noticeably more snappy.
I got my hands on the bronze and black colored Canik SFX Rival and it shoots as good as it looks. Defiantly a worthwhile purchase to replace my old 9mm.
Truly I can take my Canik elite sc and almost outshoot my fully comped and tricked out P320 so I will Own a RIVAL soon
I have an SFX Rival, I love this thing. I have been shooting steal challenge for about 6 months with a 22 Victory. I can't wait to get this on the range as well. I did get a weighted backstrap for it as well as a comp. Great gun for the price.
I’d like to see a comparison versus the 320 Legion. Both are “competition ready” and the legion might be the nicest polymer gun iv ever shot.
I just handled the 320 next to the Dark Side today, and the fit/finish/quality were on par, except for the trigger, which absolutely blew the 320 away, hard to believe, but the Canik is superior, for half the price, I WILL be getting one!
the legion 320 is over hype! just sold mine and ordered the rival!

Last, it would be an interesting comparison between the Walther PDP Pro SD with the Canik Rival.
UPDATE: Today at a gun show here in Houston/Pasadena TX, I bought me a Canik SFx Rival. Thanks for your input again, David! 💪🏼😎🇺🇲
I like the concept. I will wait until more magazines are more plentiful.
i have the rival, elite executive, and the signature series white out number 738, love canik
Kept putting this in my shopping cart and then talking myself out of it. Really didn't need another 9mm pistol, already have 17 from a Hi Point to CZ to Glock to a surplus Luger....But I broke down and ordered it today.

I have the mete and love shooting it. Great handgun. I will be picking up one of this SFX Rivals!
Smoky mountain concealment now has competition holsters for the Rival.
Great gun, might even shoot it at Collin USPSA this weekend.
Canik Rival is a version of TP9 SFX, and the magazines of other SFX versions should fit. I use SFX Mete magazines with Rival.
I'm using my tp9sf mags in my rival

That is the question for sure.

That’s because it’s the Walther trigger system. Canik copied it.
@@czwarlord9243 Might as well copy the best.
Left handed here and this is my 2nd canik. Only issue i have is now I have 2 holsters that do nothing but sit in the box
Hmm. Sounds like a contender for the "new range toy" slot on my pistol wish list.
Great job reviewing it!
This is one of the best values in the gun industry.
This gun vs Walter PDP would be cool!
Love that you got this! And I agree, the mag situation is my only reservation on recommending it over like the PDP (goes for all the caniks really)
Nice review! The wife and I are thinking about trying a competition. It looks like a lot of fun.
Love my Rival! It’s my go to EDC!
You conceal carry this? What kind of holster
Threw a set of talon grips on mine. Day and night difference
The first Cannick I have found interesting.
I'd like to see this compared to big name polymer 9mm pistols that are the same price,

Mfg need to figure out the grip gesture thing, not going as high as possible with the texture doesn’t make sense.
Use some traction tape.
I have the Rival Darkside version absolutely fabulous by far the best striker fired pistol I have ever used.
I'm a lefty that's trained myself to cope in a right handed world

the tp9sfx and rival mags are interchangeable so you can have two 20 round mags and two 18 round mags

Idk if they have updated it or something but the back straps are 100% changeable as it comes with 2 other ones to swap out
